Welcome to Fort Jackson, the largest and most active Initial Entry Training Center in the U.S. Army. Fifty percent of all soldiers and 70% of all women entering the Army are trained here. Originally called Camp Jackson, the installation opened in 1917 as the nation was entering World War I. It is named for Andrew Jackson, a U.S. Army General and President of the United States.
