Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Small Hotel with Big Value Would definately stay at the Candlewood Suites again. Nice little hotel centrally located within the Times Square area of NYC. Friendly staff. Clean suite and bed. Good price. Hotel has a small convience store on ground floor for the purchase of amenities and snacks. Airlink shuttle service provided excellent drop-off service directly to the hotel from LGR airport which was painless. Lots of eateries' located within a short walking distance . Close to hop-on hop-off sightseeing buses. I'd say '' ...go for it !..." ~ unless you want to pay for a 5 star ' at a much higher price. May 15, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice room & excellent staff Great location.Times Square and theatres are short walk.Very friendly and knowledgible staff.Quick to respond to any requests. Would def. stay there again! May 12, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 3 days in New York We had an enjoyable stay in New York. The hotel was wel located for site seeing, the staff were pleasant and the room was clean. Our only problem was a noisy freezer/fridge which was quickly replaced. The bonus was a washroom area which had a washing machine and a drier which were free!!! May 11, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great staff keeps me coming back! The thing with NYC hotels is that you can’t have it all – there are always trade-offs. The “perfect” room will cost you an arm and a leg, but the affordable rooms don’t offer the niceties – or even the necessities in some cases. I have found Candlewood to be a perfect compromise. Clean, comfortable rooms with extra features at a good rate. And the best staff in the industry! My biggest complaints would be the lack of lighting and size of room. Had they made the utility areas in the center of the building just a foot or so narrower they could have fit another nightstand with a lamp beside the bed. That would pretty much eliminate all my whining. Unlike so many others, I prefer rooms without daily cleaning. Not only better for the environment and cheaper rates, but I don’t have to worry about vacating the room at any particular time during the day. To me that’s a plus. And you can always get linens replaced upon request. Two very minor glitches on this trip: The toaster didn’t work. But I kept forgetting to ask them to replace it, so how big a deal could it have been? The eating utensils and dishes were disgustingly dirty – old food stuck on them. Had to re-wash everything before I could use them. I guess the previous guest wasn’t very picky. I suspect housekeeping assumes people know how to wash dishes correctly, but maybe it would be a good idea to spot check a few items? With all the choices in NYC, what keeps me coming back to this specific Candlewood is the staff. Always friendly, courteous, professional and helpful. They seem to enjoy their work and assisting guests. They get to know you, greet you each day and even joke with you. Many other customer service related companies could learn a lot from this team. Kudos to management for assembling and retaining such a great group of employees! Pros: Fully supplied kitchenette with full-size refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee maker, sink & dishwasher. Very comfortable beds with above-average linens. TV with DVD player. Comfortable lounge chair. Clean and surprisingly quiet given the location near a busy intersection. Just minutes to convention center, subway or Times Square. Fantastic staff! Cons: Insufficient lighting in entire room, but worst on side of bed against the wall as there is no nightstand. Possible to install pot lights in the ceiling or a wall sconce? Towel rack in the shower? Difficult to keep the towels dry. Possibly put more hooks on the door or wall? Also, no hand towel loop near the sink so you have to drip water across the floor when reaching back to the tub for a towel. No counter space in bathroom. No luggage racks. May 10, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent location, great staff and service Myself and my fiancee stayed for 6 nights in April 2013 and really enjoyed our stay. The location is excellent - close to Port Authority, Penn Station and Time Square. Our room while small was perfectly adequate for our stay. The bed was extremely comfortable. We both had some work to finish while on our holiday and the free WiFi was great. The staff were efficient and friendly. Would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and would stay again. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great for what we wanted small town people in the big city, all staff we came in contact with were very friendly and helpful, room was as expected, actually quieter than expected, don't expect any view, there is none, good bed, good pillows, small but what we required, very clean, fridge, coffee maker, microwave, start with morning coffee, muffin, fresh fruit, (3 bakeries or convenience stores within a block either way), go explore the city, 1 block from subway, close walk to theatres, times square, central park, boat tour, Hells Kitchen restaurant area, (bring comfortable footwear) May 9, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great location!! We stayed here for five nights in late April 2013, with some of the loveliest New York City spring weather I'd encountered in years!! The room was a tad smaller than expected, but it made up for that plenty with a very comfortable recliner, a superb bed, and more outlets than electronics we had to charge! We were impressed with the convenience of the location, as well as the well-stocked and modestly priced cupboard. Free Internet? Sign me up! Will definitely stay here again next time around. Just wish the kitchen sink hot water had worked better, and the elevator hadn't been down all weekend (don't worry, there are two!) May 7, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Well Recommended If you don't mind the loss of half the elevators in this high rise building and a very friendly staff that yet cannot tell time, at least in English ("A quarter past 7? That is 7:25?") and skips your wakeup call, then at least you will be VERY COMFORTABLE in your neat and very clean room, as I was. If you like Italian food, the most authentic trattoria I have found in a long time is right across the street, Mercato. May 6, 2013
