Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by gmhrjh Loved it so much we are returning this weekend
Simply stated... What a little jewel. We were here in August with a guest from China and were so happy to have found this hotel.
We are 5* Hotel snobs. That said, one cannot always stay at such a hotel every time especially when travelling with other friends/guests.We were off to a good start with the FRIENDLY & HELPFUL Hotel Front Desk staff. Our rooms were not ready but our bags were stored so that we could begin our adventure. Once we returned our bags were promptly brought to us and we checked in. Rooms are comfortable & clean. Amenities are more than acceptable and that recliner is a comfortable treat after a day of trekking around the city. Subway only a few minutes away. HINT: a liquor/wine store across the street, small grocery around the corner and then LOADS of restaurants on 8th & 9th will give you a better meal than what you will find on 7th or Broadway. Laundry? travel packets from home OR buy Purell 3-in-1 sheets. Great where liquid or weight is a factor.
Are they small by Suite standards? Well, yes but this is NYC. I've stayed in much tighter quarters in the City. Even the grand hotel rooms are tighter than a hotel room in other cities. Accept this fact and do not hold it against the hotels you stay at in NYC. Look for cleanliness, helpfulness and anything else of value but not square feet. The Queen Studio suite is fine for 2 people!!!

The hotel is well-located near public transportation, good restaurants, and the theater district. The room makes staying an extended time easy and convenient.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by citytrav33 nice property but only one elevator worked
Clean, nicely furnished and equipted units. Kitchen was well designed and very usefull for a NYC property. Bed was excellent. Plenty of seating and desk space for a room of this size in the city.
Only complaint is that one of the two elevators did not work for the entire stay of 5 days. In a 32 story property, one elevator is inadequate and waits at times were 10 minutes. They should be able to get it fixed in a few days--even if they needed to get parts.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by 2InternationalTravelers Regrettable Stay
The hotel is shabby. We requested an early morning check-in and did not get a room until 2pm. The walls are thin and the hallways noisy. The ac unit would freeze and then shut off leaving the room sweltering hot. The shower had black gunk coming up through the drain. The front desk help was surly and unhelpful. When I responded to a Candlewood survey of our bad experience, I received a curt response saying that early check-in cannot be guaranteed. No comment on the rest of the horrible experience. I regret wasting Priority Points and will never book at a Candlewood Suites again and I recommend you don't either.

When we arrived we we're greeted in a friendly, and helpful manner with maps and recommendations of were to eat and drink. Candlewood suites is a self catering property just 2 blocks away from Time Square, not to mention all the other sights in Midtown Manhattan. Ask for a high floor (25th-32nd floor) and you'll get a view of the Hudson river to your right and the top of the Empire State Building to your left. So when the sun is setting you'll be able to see it. Enjoy NY.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Maere Great Weekend!
This hotel surprised us! We stayed for a 2-night weekend...front desk was very pleasant.....room was well-laid out and very quiet! The bed was one of the most comfortable we have EVER slept in! The location (39th between 8th and 9th) was surprisingly well-lit and since there were 3 other hotels on the same side of the block, there were always people and staff around...even late.
We would stay again.

I went to New York to do the marathon and as you all know by now it was cancelled. The crew at Candlewood Suites were wonderful in that they were always friendly, accommodating and came through with any questions or concerns. They were also VERY flexible as the city was in chaos and there were numerous individuals looking for rooms while others were canceling. My stay was wonderful and cozy. I ended up giving aide during my stay and it was nice to be able to return to my cozy room with all of the amenities that I needed. I had chosen this facility for it's location and kitchen as I am very careful about how I eat before a race but with the race not happening it was nice to be able to eat in after a long day of work. I'm hoping to get into the marathon next year and this will definitely be where I chose to stay. My only concern with recommending this facility is that I want to be able to get in when I come. As an aside, there were staff members who had been severely effected by the storm but you would not have known it. They were very professional.

The bed was very comfortable. The staff (even those we just met in the elevator) seemed genuine, professional, and personable.
We brought our five-year old who had to sleep on the floor or the recliner, so he didn't get great rest, but that was our fault for not planning well.
The room was perfect size, loved the kitchen. The flooring and bathroom, furniture, etc all seemed new or refurbished, so that made the room feel great.
The only minor issues....the closet door had structural problems and wouldn't close, and the bathtub drain plug wouldn't plug (to give our son a bath), but those were our only complaints.

Stayed at property on 10-26-12 thru 10-28-12. Rooms are small but plenty big for two people. The shower was plenty big and had enough hot water for both of us to shower. We never had to wait more than 2 minutes for an elevator and we were on the 26th floor. The proximity to times square is excellent- only a 5 minute walk. The neighborhood all around the hotel is safe too. We loved the diner on 9th ave between 42nd and 43rd st. for breakfast as it was good food and very reasonable. I believe it was called West Side Diner but not sure. The room was clean, organized and the staff was excellent! Great Value.

The hotel's location was perfect for us. Easy walking to Times Square, subways and restaurants. Half block walk to 9th Avenue which provided a ton of small restaurants offering good food at decent prices. We were on the 28th floor which gave us a nice view. The room was a decent size with a comfortable bed and was very quiet. The staff was top notch. When we first checked in they provided us with info and maps. Every time we returned to the hotel we received a warm greeting from the front desk personnel. They provided us with directions, recommended restaurants and helped me when I couldn't get on the internet with my iPad. We would readily recommend the hotel to others.

This is a great hotel, great location, friendly staff and quiet rooms. I have stayed here many times over the past 7 years or so. Excellent value, clean and comfortable rooms with kitchens. The location is convenient to Penn Station and Port Authority busses. Subway hubs are very short walk. The restaurants/bars on 9TH Avenue are varried and many choice neighborhood places. Easy access to Central Park ( I usually walk ) Lincoln Center and heading south Chelsea, The Highline Park and the heart of the Grenwich Village are a pleasant walk or short subway ride. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. I'll be back. D2

Candlewood Suites was the perfect choice for us -- close to the subway and tourist sites, quiet, very comfortable bed, and a good price. We made good use of the kitchen.
Staff was accommodating in letting us check out at 2 p.m. and holding our luggage until we left for the airport.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by MickiLu Location and Staff made it work for us!
We are two (very) senior ladies from CA...First timers to NYC...Arrived very late, and welcomed, but not exactly what we expected. Room VERY small, but adequate, staff was professional and accommodating, but many things had to be fixed or replaced during the two days of our stay. We were treated with respect and friendliness and very delightful location.
We would give this property 3 stars for locale, and cleanliness, but 1 1/2 stars for size.. Thank you for treating us with courtesy.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by comicconner yes there is no housekeeping - so what?!
its an extended stay hotel. i think its great that they are not always in and out of your room. save some resources and hang up your towel after 1 shower! we stayed for 2 nights for a conference. the hotel was a short walk to th convention center, one block in any direction and you could find starbicks, irish pubs, quick breakfasts - lots of variety - but the "cupboard" downstairs has free coffee, microwave meals, snacks and drinks. the room was clean, had a mini kitchen, very quiet. elevators were working and they held our bags after checkout so we could go back to the conference. if you drive - park early and leave the car. its new york city - traffic is horrible!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Vakarian2012 DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY
First the bed is the most uncomfortable thing I have ever slept on.
None of the outlets in the bedroom worked properly.
The shower was horrible.
The bellhop lost 3 of my bags, and we had to keep going back to find them.
They charged me twice for the room, and then refused to release the funds even when my bank CALLED THEM. They wanted my bank to fill out a bunch of forms and fax them in....then FINALLY after fighting with the desk worker to talk to a manager, they agreed to take the time to call my bank directly and release the funds.
I will NEVER go back again. Nothing but stress and screw ups, and being treated rudely the whole time for THEIR mistakes- they wouldn't even admit they screwed up and charged me twice! NO APOLOGY.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JohnA Great service, clean room, comfortable bed.
We had a very nice stay in this hotel. The room was clean, the bed comfortable. The service was very prompt. We had a beeping alarm in a neighboring room that was addressed within 10 minutes of reporting. I had a pdf document that needed to be printed and the front desk did it immediately for me. We had a slow drain in the bathroom sink and they fixed it within hours. The front desk was helpful and friendly. We used the valet parking service and our brand new car was returned after 4 days in perfect condition. The location of the hotel is within walking distance to many activities. We would definitely stay here again if we return to New York city.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by TravelerHolmz Great Place near Time Square for an Extended Stay
Let me start by saying that any hotel room in NYC will always be and feel smaller than your usual hotel experiences. With that in mind, I was very pleased with the Candlewood Suites in NYC (A Holiday Inn chain). We booked for 5 nights in early Oct 2012 as part of a honeymoon and could not have been happier with the selection. The customer service on check-in/out was great along with the rest of the hotel staff. The room size was above average for the size of standard NYC hotels. The large king bed was very comfortable, faux leather recliner was nice and the bathroom was large enough for 2 persons to get ready. Shower and sinks were all in good shape. Once item I did find odd was the pricing structure. We found that each day had an increasingly higher nightly rate as you approached the weekend. We stayed Sunday thru Friday and saw a rate increase more than $20 or so per night. This may be standard practice with NYC hotels for weekend stays to be pricier, but if you are not expecting it, it may catch you off guard when the final bill comes.
As with any extended stay hotel, keep in mind a few items: First, don’t expect your room to be serviced every day. Think of Candlewood Suites as a small furnished apartment of about 300SqFt. If you request service they will provide it; but it’s not daily as with other hotels chains. You will reuse towels and beds will not be made. I would recommend taking advantage of the kitchen accommodations instead of heading out for each meal. The room had a fridge, freezer, sink, 2-burner electric range, microwave, 4-cup coffee maker, and place setting with plates, bowls, cups, silverware for 2 persons. I was pleasantly surprised to find a potato peeler in the silverware drawer. The stainless steel skillet, 2 sauce pans and a toaster was all we needed for breakfast / brunch before seeing the sites of NYC. If you are a coffee drinker, pick up a bag of coffee from the local Dunkin Donuts to save you from having to leave your room for that morning pick me up. We were also excited to learn of an onsite laundry facilities of 6 front loading washers and dryers were free for guests. Though, you did have to purchase an “all in one detergent / dryer sheet” for $2 from the onsite convenience store; however, we found it more cost effective than purchasing a small bottle of laundry detergent and fabric softener from the local Duane Reed/Walgreens. I do have to mention the flat screen TV (32in) and DVD player were a nice touch. If you open the windows, you will hear the sounds of a rustling bustling city, but it’s relatively quiet in the evenings. It’s no country farm at night, but for a city that never sleeps, it can doze off from time to time.
The hotel’s location and proximity to Times Square makes it ideal for those looking to be in the middle of it all. It’s location is also close to the 42nd street subway & bus depot which can get you anywhere you need in Manhattan or any of the burros you wish to visit. Times Square is also less than 4 blocks total walking distance. There are plenty of grocery stores within a block or two if you wish to stock up on snacks, soda’s, beer, and or take home any of the awesome pizza from any street corner.
Located just a few steps West of the hotel is 9th Avenue. If you are looking for places to eat, I recommend anyplace on 9th Ave as these are far enough away from the “tourists traps” restaurant chains, but still add plenty of local flair for the small mom and pop eateries you must try. There’s plenty of bars, American dining, along with a myriad of ethnic food for whatever tastes fitting your fancy. Yum-Yum’s Bangkok Thai and a small French bistro for dessert and drinks were my favorite and within 1 block of each other.
Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone. While the room is cozy and intimate, we found it adequate for a good night’s sleep, and breakfast in the morning before immersing ourselves with all the awesomeness NYC has to offer.
