Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 3 days in New York We had an enjoyable stay in New York. The hotel was wel located for site seeing, the staff were pleasant and the room was clean. Our only problem was a noisy freezer/fridge which was quickly replaced. The bonus was a washroom area which had a washing machine and a drier which were free!!! May 11, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great staff keeps me coming back! The thing with NYC hotels is that you can’t have it all – there are always trade-offs. The “perfect” room will cost you an arm and a leg, but the affordable rooms don’t offer the niceties – or even the necessities in some cases. I have found Candlewood to be a perfect compromise. Clean, comfortable rooms with extra features at a good rate. And the best staff in the industry! My biggest complaints would be the lack of lighting and size of room. Had they made the utility areas in the center of the building just a foot or so narrower they could have fit another nightstand with a lamp beside the bed. That would pretty much eliminate all my whining. Unlike so many others, I prefer rooms without daily cleaning. Not only better for the environment and cheaper rates, but I don’t have to worry about vacating the room at any particular time during the day. To me that’s a plus. And you can always get linens replaced upon request. Two very minor glitches on this trip: The toaster didn’t work. But I kept forgetting to ask them to replace it, so how big a deal could it have been? The eating utensils and dishes were disgustingly dirty – old food stuck on them. Had to re-wash everything before I could use them. I guess the previous guest wasn’t very picky. I suspect housekeeping assumes people know how to wash dishes correctly, but maybe it would be a good idea to spot check a few items? With all the choices in NYC, what keeps me coming back to this specific Candlewood is the staff. Always friendly, courteous, professional and helpful. They seem to enjoy their work and assisting guests. They get to know you, greet you each day and even joke with you. Many other customer service related companies could learn a lot from this team. Kudos to management for assembling and retaining such a great group of employees! Pros: Fully supplied kitchenette with full-size refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee maker, sink & dishwasher. Very comfortable beds with above-average linens. TV with DVD player. Comfortable lounge chair. Clean and surprisingly quiet given the location near a busy intersection. Just minutes to convention center, subway or Times Square. Fantastic staff! Cons: Insufficient lighting in entire room, but worst on side of bed against the wall as there is no nightstand. Possible to install pot lights in the ceiling or a wall sconce? Towel rack in the shower? Difficult to keep the towels dry. Possibly put more hooks on the door or wall? Also, no hand towel loop near the sink so you have to drip water across the floor when reaching back to the tub for a towel. No counter space in bathroom. No luggage racks. May 10, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent location, great staff and service Myself and my fiancee stayed for 6 nights in April 2013 and really enjoyed our stay. The location is excellent - close to Port Authority, Penn Station and Time Square. Our room while small was perfectly adequate for our stay. The bed was extremely comfortable. We both had some work to finish while on our holiday and the free WiFi was great. The staff were efficient and friendly. Would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and would stay again. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great for what we wanted small town people in the big city, all staff we came in contact with were very friendly and helpful, room was as expected, actually quieter than expected, don't expect any view, there is none, good bed, good pillows, small but what we required, very clean, fridge, coffee maker, microwave, start with morning coffee, muffin, fresh fruit, (3 bakeries or convenience stores within a block either way), go explore the city, 1 block from subway, close walk to theatres, times square, central park, boat tour, Hells Kitchen restaurant area, (bring comfortable footwear) May 9, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great location!! We stayed here for five nights in late April 2013, with some of the loveliest New York City spring weather I'd encountered in years!! The room was a tad smaller than expected, but it made up for that plenty with a very comfortable recliner, a superb bed, and more outlets than electronics we had to charge! We were impressed with the convenience of the location, as well as the well-stocked and modestly priced cupboard. Free Internet? Sign me up! Will definitely stay here again next time around. Just wish the kitchen sink hot water had worked better, and the elevator hadn't been down all weekend (don't worry, there are two!) May 7, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Well Recommended If you don't mind the loss of half the elevators in this high rise building and a very friendly staff that yet cannot tell time, at least in English ("A quarter past 7? That is 7:25?") and skips your wakeup call, then at least you will be VERY COMFORTABLE in your neat and very clean room, as I was. If you like Italian food, the most authentic trattoria I have found in a long time is right across the street, Mercato. May 6, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic Location to Time Square We were first time visitors to New York, we took our Daughter and Grandson and booked two rooms. We had a great time and would thoroughly recommend Candlewood Suites. It is only a 5 minute walk to Time Square. The rooms are quite small but plenty big enough and comfortable for two people. There are cooking facilities in the room if needed. Our room was clean and had nice fresh linen and towels. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There is laundry facilities which is free with plenty of clean washing machines and dryers. Being in New York we thought the charges were great value for what we paid. We also stayed at Candlewood because we were doing a cruise out of New York to the Caribbean and it was only a 5 minute taxi ride to the cruise terminal. May 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by At Christmas time in New York For us it was the first visit to the U.S., and we always wanted to New York. We wanted a hotel that is inexpensive but comfortable, clean and cozy. A hotel where we could provide us with a snack itself. A property that is central and where you achieved everything on foot or by bus or subway. The Candlewood was perfect. The staff very friendly, we got along very well with Sam and Victoria. Even though we sometimes one or the other English vocabulary is omitted, you are well understood and helped. We will definitely come back, but not this year. So if anyone has any discerning guest, the hotel is worth gold. We wish you always nice guests Greetings from Germany Simone and Jürgen May 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exellent location The hotel is located central Midtown, 5-mins walk to Port Authority Bus Terminal/subway E train and 10 mins walk to Time Square. Basically, you can go anywhere with public transportation. And thinking about the unsure NY subway routine and changing schedule, living near a major station is very importatn. Staff are very nice and willing to help. Suit is not provding room clean every day which is not a big problem if not staying long. May 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Candlewood Times Square Great location, close to many amenities including Times Square, subways, restaurants and shops. Starbucks was nearby for early morning coffee and a grocery store a short walk away. The hotel was clean and the staff always friendly and helpful. Excellent place to stay while in NYC! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by EXCELLENT HOTEL This hotel has to be the BEST kept secret in NYC!!! WOW! Way better than expected. An extended stay suite; very spacious, CLEAN, had refrigerator, microwave, stovetop, cooking utensils. They were all in excellent shape and exceptionally clean. Room was AWESOME! Staff were awesome and they baked cookies every night! No housekeeping daily but really, who needs that! We were gone so much it wasn't necessary. The hotel was quiet. It is a 5 min walk from Times Square. Near the subway stations and the bus station. Truly, everything you need right here!!! Highly recommend this hotel!!!!!! Nothing negative about this hotel at all. You won't be disappointed! April 28, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great location and staff Chose this hotel because it had a kitchen, we loved the microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker, great location and safe area, great staff, did not like that the wi-fi was slow or hard to connect, our room was next to the elevator so at times you can hear guest talking and the elevator going up. In 9 days you get 1 day of housekeeping so if you need clean towels or throw trash away you need to call front desk, no safe in room you will need to go to the front desk. April 21, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Well-Run Property Have stayed there several times and it's a well-run property with helpful staff. Love having a kitchenette! April 14, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Location hard to beat Great place to stay because it's so close to major thoroughfares (subway, buses, etc.) and visitor attractions. We stayed there before going on a cruise out of New York. Rode on the Hop-on-Hop Off bus that was only a couple of blocks away. Memorable stay for us because the hotel made it so accessible for us to visit lots of attractions. Only only one question, did the lady at the registration desk really like her job? April 1, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by March 15 & 16, 2013 There was a water problem in the hotel as well as the public system in the morning of. The 16th. In fact I was all soaped up in the shower. Not pleasant as I had to go to meeting. After talking to desk. No offer for relief was made. Not good. We will not stay there any time in future March 29, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location, comfortable room I stayed here in November 2011 and returned in November 2012. Both times, I was warmly greeted by front desk personnel and made to feel at home immediately. Elevators quickly took me back and forth to/from quiet rooms on upper floors. Rooms are surprisingly small, but perfectly adequate for one or two people. It was nice having a kitchenette w/fridge to store food. Both rooms were immaculately clean, but cleaning staff should use a step ladder to check upper kitchen shelves for "left-overs." On my first stay, I found an unopened box of condoms up there, and next time I found a new box of tea bags. Or maybe these were welcome gifts? <LOL> I would highly recommend this hotel and hope to stay here in the future. March 25, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Value As someone who comes to NY and attends trade shows at the Javits Center this is an excellent value and my new go to place for these events. The hotel is in a great location. Close to the Javits Center and many other attractions. The rooms are nice and comfortable and the price is way below what most hotels in NY cost. I love this place. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by improvement will be needed Everything was perfect. The only problem are the engines noises from the aircondition and the frig. So noisy that I could not get into sleep. I had to turn the air condition off during the night. And also I will appreciate to have some foreign language channel on the television and the WIFI network in the room si not good enough, too slow, sometimes impossible to get the network at all. Inspite of all these points, Candleswood suite is an excellent hotel with helpfull staff. Excellent location also. I hope that improvement will be made next time when I come back to New York again. March 19, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outstanding Service The service at Candlewood Suites was very friendly and helpful. When moving to DST and the clock was to be advanced a flyer was left in my room as a reminder and on top of it, the Canlewood staff already adjusted the alarm clock so that I would get up on time. - Excellent service, such hands-on help did not happen to me at any hotel before. March 16, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great choice for NYC The location is excellent. The building is well maintained, the rooms are clean, a good size, the internet is a good speed, the elevator works well. Its everything you can ask for in a hotel. You will not be disappointed. March 14, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Wonderful staff! I stayed at the Candlewood Suites for 6 weeks and really enjoyed my stay! Absolutely, hands down the best staff and service I have ever seen and I have stayed at some of the best hotels all over the world! I highly recommend Candlewood Suites to anyone looking for extended stay accomodations! March 8, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 excellent room, location, staff. located near time square, great kitchen fully equipped w/ full size refrigerator made my stay very comfortable, the staff was very helpful. March 3, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great room, great staff Have never stayed at a Candlewood before but we definitely enjoyed it. Housecleaning is not provided on a daily basis but for a 3 night stay we didn't need it. Staff was very pleasant and inviting. The kitchen area was more than sufficient for small meals and food storage. Linens were great as was the bed. Hard to imagine a restful sleep in the heart of downtown NYC but that is exactly what we got. Very convenient to Times Square, theatres, and MSG. February 27, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Simply a GREAT place to stay while in NYC I stayed at Candlewood/Times Square for almost 3 months. I was in the city for work and worked loooong hours. My room was clean, the staff more than * exceptional * and what a perfect location.. Rooms in NYC are smaller than elsewhere but that's a given, you ARE in NYC! I will certainly return to NYC (on pleasure, hopefully not work) and will absolutely stay at this hotel. Need a decent place to eat??...Westway Diner on 9th, between 43rd and 44th. Clean, welcoming, great food, great service and only about a 10 minute walk. ENJOY your stay! February 21, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by E xcellent Value This is one of many small hotels with small rooms that have sprung up on 39th and 40th streets between 8th and 9 th avenues. The location is convenient to the theatre district and times square and many subway lines. This particular hotel provides a larger room and a small kitchen than several other nearby hotels I have stayed at and as such is a much better value than other perfectly adequate hotels in the same area and in fact on the same block. Be warned the rooms are small but adequate and very clean. February 21, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by comfortable bed and great service it is a very nice hotel and near by all the spots in manhatten January 15, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location, and good hotel! Great location, clean room and close to Times Square... all you need to have a good time! January 7, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by All round great service This hotel is in a great location, close to central Times Square and Macy's. Booked 3 rooms, 2 of which had a views of the Empire State Building and Freedom Tower. All rooms were clean and tidy and the kitchen is a great bonus. The staff were very friendly and we would definately consider staying there again if we are fortunate to visit New York again. January 5, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great room! Staff was very friendly and the room was great! It was clean and had a full kitchen complete with dishes! They were even accodating when i requested a late check out. Great location, we were able to walk to time square from the hotel. I thought it was a little pricey, but then again it was around Christmas time. January 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent location and has everything you need During last visit in New York during Christmas time, I found this Candlewood in times square is in very convinient location to eveywhere you want to go. Close to subway and walking distance to Times Square, Central park and 5th Avenue. In addition, the staff response to the request I put on-line during reservation. I will definitely recommend my friends to choose this hotel whent hey visit NYC. Even though the room is not as big, it has everything you need. The location is just perfect. January 2, 2013
