Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Pleasant Visits I arrived in the middle of the night, traveling 10 hours to Virginia but once I arrived the front desk agent name Wanda was pleasant, I explained my circumstances and she understood clearly by explaining all of the amenities quickly but professionally. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Poor front desk I often travel in this area for business and decided to stay at this location. Being a platinum member, I have never stayed at a Candlewood Suites. Upon arrival I was assigned a room. I went to the room and someone else was in it. I was assigned another room and the room was very spacious, clean and nice. At 8 AM the next morning someone was pounding on the door. The front desk told housekeeping that I already checked out. The person told me they needed to clean the room. I explained that I had not checked out and they said they would come back later. November 19, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Accomodating Staff/Great Service This is my second time staying at Candlewood Suites/Norfolk and each time we had a very pleasant stay. We had two suites and one of the suites had a strong cleaning smell. We called the front desk and they immediately came to check the room and agreed that the smell was strong. They gave us another suite with no problem and gave us a follow up call to make sure eveything was to our liking. Thanks for such a great service!!! November 13, 2013

The location to the interstates and to our family was ideal. There are 2 shopping malls nearby. I would recommend this for mature travelers like us. November 9, 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 Good Hotel, Great Employees, HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT A few months ago, I reserved this hotel to stay with my family for a funeral because of such great reviews I saw. I called and spoke to Someone Named Yolet who claimed to have been the front desk manager, which I reserved 5 King SUITES with for 22 family memebers in total, (and was rude from the moment she picked up the phone). When we arrived, we were told by Susan at the front desk that what was reserved were 5 standard rooms with just 1 bed in each and that there were no King suites available. Though I was extremely upset, She was very helpful and didnt stop trying to get in contact with a manager until she found better sources. I Finally spoke to a manager whos name was Jenifer and was as rude as Yolet (Now 2 unprofessional managers). She was upset with Susan at first for calling her about the situation in front of me (apparently this had not been the first time the "front desk manager " had screwed up). Unfortunately, Though the young lady at the front desk tried her best to help us, Nothing was done, and because everything in the area was sold out already, we had no other choice but to stay there and accommodate everyone as we could. But through out our stay, Susan constantly called to check on us and ask if we needed anything at all. To top it all off, I called a week ago to make a reservation (to give another try, cause people do make mistakes), but strictly only wanted Susan to make my reservation this time, and was told she was terminated a while back. Word of Advice: Hire Susan back and have her train the managers all over again, Never staying here again. September 3, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pleasant Surprise Did a search on Kayak and found this at a special rate for a weekend in late August. Was glad to find a clean, spacious suite with nice staff. I've never stayed in an extended stay suite but will definitely use Candlewood next time no matter how long the stay. Obviously your room is cleaned before you arrive and when you leave or at least once a week if staying extended but if you need towels, the staff is glad to get your more if needed. Thumbs Up. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Average hotel, very barebones for the price paid From the lack of privacy curtains, to the guests smoking just outside the front entrance, to the musty feel of the room...this place disappointed immediately upon arrival and ended up a very average experience. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Overnight Airport Hotel Very helpful and friendly staff. Room was very clean and well equipped for a kitchenette. The only complaint is the air conditioning noise combined with the refrigerator did not make for quiet night's sleep. The bed is position right next to the AC so there is no way to distance yourself from it. The location is quiet. Not sure I why did not accumulate any points on this stay. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Rude Late Night Staff I reserved a one-bedroom suite and upon checkin was given a studio room. I walked down and notified the staff member (it was around 11:30pm) that she gave me the wrong room. He response was a rude, "No I didn't!" I told her that originally I made a reservation for a studio but changed it later. She said no I didn't and that she didn't have a one-bedroom to give me. She also asked me why I need a one-bedroom suite as if that is her business! I showed her the reservation on my phone. She finally agreed to find me a room after my 4 mth child and wife came into the lobby (we drove separately). Later, I also asked her for some extra towels. She said she didn't have any. I asked for an extra blanket and I got the same response. Someone needs to remind her that she is in the hospitality industry. If the other area hotels were already not full, I would have moved. I have never been treated so rudely. August 14, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice stay. Comfort and convenient. My husband and I stayed here July 19th-23. The room was clean and comfy. We liked that we could cook our own breakfast and have groceries in the fridge. It is conveniently located close to all eateries and a walgreens and walmart. The staff we're pleasant and helpful. Only downsides we're the folks smoking in the bbq area, no pool, DVD /TV had some issues and any time we used our key in the door it would not work that became an annoyance even after a switch. However overall we had a great stay and it's just 25 mins from the beach and activities. We will stay again. August 4, 2013

We parked our car, stayed the night, had a shuttle to the airport in the morning, and then a shuttle back to the hotel after our trip. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Decent place to sleep. As an IHG Rewards Club member I expected more from this hotel. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and all appliances worked. They did not have my check-in paperwork ready when I checked in. They ran out of individual coffee's for the room (I only had one package in the room my entire 5 day stay, though they did have a machine in the Candlewood Cupboard - not very convenient), and one of the two elevators was broken for most of my stay. One evening around 8:30 I was attempting to figure out how to get the DVD player to work. The only issue I had was that my first night's stay ended up being in a smoking room, even though I had booked a non-smoking. Surprisingly, it wasn't bad at all. The location was great as I was flying in and out of the airport. It was also nice being so close to shopping for the couple of things I forgot to pack. I recommend this hotel: staff was friendly, rooms were clean and great location. July 11, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by It's okay, but not great.... We came for vacation and needed 2 rooms. Check in was at 3pm. We arrived at 4:35p and our rooms weren't ready. We had to beg to get rooms at least on the same floor. After a lot of begging and me being down right disgusted, the lady checking us in finally took pity and 'magically' found us rooms on the same floor. Our room smelled like dirty gym socks! But I didn't think asking for a different room would do any good since I had to wait for a room in the first place. The front desk staff explained 25 people checked out, (side note- room service isn't everyday) and there's 6 people cleaning rooms it takes them a long time and 3 hours isn't enough to do that. I was a little shocked at this answer. The room has no insulation, and you can hear people above and around you. THERE'S NO POOL! The beach is 20 minutes away. It was okay, not so sure I'd recommend it and probably would not waste my time at this location again. *Also, BE ADVISED- there's a dog kennel/boarding place and the dogs wake you up around 7:30am. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Location and helpful staff Let me just say that from the moment I checked into this hotel I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! The staff was very friendly and accommodating (especially Tiffany at the front desk). The hotel lobby was immaculately clean. The hallways on each floor was vacuumed every day and this kept the carpets looking new. The hotel room was very accommodating as well. If I had to make one gripe it would be that outside of utensils such as forks, spoons and knives there is none. I had to purchase a can opener, and a spatula. The kitchenette was stocked very well otherwise even down to trial size dishwashing and dishwasher liquids. The laundry (which was free and exceptionally clean as well) was an added bonus in not having to lug worn clothes homes to wash or attempt to locate quarters to use this privilege. The gym was great as well. I would highly recommend this property to anyone traveling to the Norfolk, Hampton or Virginia Beach area for any type of extended stay. Needless to say there is a need for a pool, especially during the summer months; and you can't help but notice that there is ample unused property next to this hotel that would make a pool a great asset! The prices are extremely affordable and the service is always great. The manager Drew is always extremely helpful and nice to us and quite a few employees recognize us and remember us every time we are there. It is very convenient for us to stay here and we don't even look for other hotels in the area because we both just really enjoy our stay here every time. We have friends and family who stay at this hotel when they are in the area as well and have always enjoyed their stays too. June 3, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by a point! Check-in was superb. The clerk was friendly and went out of the way to make sure our room was okay. The room was very clean. My only complaint is that in the morning when I called for a late checkout there seemed to be a lot of confusion. The clerk told me that she would call me back. After almost an hour, I rang the front desk again. Then I was offered a 2pm checkout---which was honored at a another property because I am a "reward member." a call at 1pm from the manager saying that they could not honor the 2pm checkout because they needed the room. Tell me why the desk person did not know that the room was reserved and needed to be cleaned right away. We were basically kicked out. I will NEVER stay there again. Not a good way to do business. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic This is the 2nd time, my wife and I have stayed at Candlewood Suites and I love it more each time, the staff is amazing, mostly "Tiffany" the night desk clerk, she went above and beyond her duty, our bed was a loose from the wall and could not be fixed that night, she made sure everything was satisfactory for us, if waned to move or receive a discount if we stayed, then there was an incident on the 4th floor which made the fire alarm go off in the whole building, but they handled it quick and we were right back to enjoying the comfort of the room. My wife and I have 23yrs and 4 kids and this hotel is the perfect getaway spot for a night of peace and quite. The king size suite is AMAZING March 15, 2013
