Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good value gets better My wife and I have been going to this Candlewood franchise since 2007. The quality keeps getting better with each visit. Renovations and improvements to amenities get better each time. There are still some old furniture pieces in some of the rooms, but in general good condition. I like the new lending locker if you need to borrow board games like scrable to keep the kids busy, or a crock pot. As we tend to eat out for most meals when travelling, the kitchen is good for storing and heating up leftovers. Next visit we will consider stopping at the grocery for vegies and use the juicer from the lending locker... Gotta stay healthy and balanced after eating out and having high fat and sodium takeout! Too many good places to eat in the area! Wish the gym equipment could be kept in good condition. The elliptical and treadmills where having problems on our last visit. August 6, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great for long term stays Stayed at the Candlestick for over 7 months. The building is conveniently located minutes from rts 287. The rooms are comfortable and have everything you need for a long term stay. The staff is very friendly and helpful and have even gone beyond the normal call of duty to assist customers and the cleaning crew took excellent care of me....and the laundry is free too! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very comfortable and excellent service. I only spent one night at Candlewood Suites in Somerset, NJ, but my stay exceeded my expectations. I travel frequently for work, so I've stayed in many, many hotels. I was concerned that the quality of the hotel as well as the safety of the location would be sub-standard because of the reasonable price, but both were excellent. My room was very clean with up-to-date furnishings, kitchenette and bathroom fixtures. No lotion or conditioner is provided -- just a conditioning shampoo - , but I travel with my own, so that wasn't a problem. Kyle at the front desk was professional, helpful and very courteous. He was a pleasure to deal with and made me feel very welcome. In sum, I will definitely stay at Candlewwod Suites again. July 16, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible experience. .....never stay here!!! We stayed here for 3 nights during the 4th of July holiday and it was a nightmare. We had a total of three rooms and one was invested with roaches, there were dirty slippers left in the drawer and trash left on the floor. Did I mention that we had to wait 3 hrs for them to clean that room that was supposed to be cleaned when we entered it, only to find those things listed!!! We told the front desk and they said that our room would be changed the next morning, when we went for a room change they said all rooms were booked!! No one ever addressed the issue while there! The staff is excellent.....the rooms are clean, updated and have all of the basic necessities as if you were at home. The complimentary coffee in the lobby area is incredible.....and the washer and dryers are free. Great deal all in all. July 7, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great room, but difficulty with dog I love this hotel; have stayed many times. The staff really is quite excellent, and do all they can to make your stay wonderful. I'm glad that they're a "pet friendly" property, but they need to find a way to deal with unfriendly pet owners. My last two visits were affected by barking dogs. All I can suggest is to ask the staff to move you. June 25, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Quality is Declining For several years, I have been staying at Candlewood Suites - Somerset on a fairly regular basis. In the past, the hotel has been a good value for my purposes. However, during my past few stays, the quality and service at the hotel has declined substantially. I will no longer stay at the hotel, nor will I recommend it to others. I come back to New Jersey to attend a meeting of a college alumni association, and these meetings often last until relatively late in the night. During my last two stays, parking was unavailable when I returned to the hotel late at night. This was particularly infuriating because some vehicles took up several spaces, while other spaces were occupied by vehicles that haven't been moved in years (in particular, one covered motorcycle that has been chained to a lamppost in the parking lot every time I have stayed at the hotel#. In absolute disregard of the Do Not Disturb sign on the door, housekeeping has woken me up early in the morning on checkout day, several hours before checkout time, each of my last two stays. Since my meetings run late into the night, I cherish the few extra hours of sleep I can catch up on the next morning. I really don't need housekeeping pounding on the door to my room. Why doesn't the hotel actually wait until the guests check out before sending housekeeping? During my last stay, I deliberately booked a smoking room, even though it was larger than I needed and cost more than other options. Although it is a bad habit, I do enjoy having a cigarette while relaxing in my room or catching up on work. In spite of my confirmation of a smoking room, the clerk assigned me to a non-smoking room. When I arrived at the room and found a lack of ashtrays, I returned to the front desk and pointed out the error. The clerk said that there was no error; the smoking rooms were all full #apparently one guest extended their stay) despite my confirmation to the contrary. She seemed proud to say that she assigned me a room close to the exit, so that I may have an easier time going out in sub freezing weather to enjoy a cigarette, rather than staying in my room. She seemed to have little empathy or concern that I had deliberately booked a more expensive room in order to have a smoking room. Her lack of concern and inability to rectify the situation was appalling. Finally, the condition of the room furniture has been declining. The desk chair was missing some of its leather covering, and its stuffing was coming out. I looked as though the chair was attacked by an animal. It has become quite clear that the management has little concern for the comfort of their guests, and that they have no concern or capacity to rectify problems during a stay. I will not be returning to Candlewood Suites any time soon. December 30, 2013

Also, you couldn't even open the window to get fresh air because it had a nail prohibiting it... I've never been to an IHG establishment that does not serve some sort of breakfast... I have been on the road for 5 weeks now & not having to look for a public laundry or pay excessive hotel laundry rates is a real bonus. The Candlewood Cupboard is also great. Prices are a bit high, but the fact that I can grab a snack 24/7 is the best. Travelling from Australia & being away from home that long makes it a lot less tedious. I have booked IHG Hotels for the entire 6 weeks of my business trip. Room was great. Lots of hot water & towels. Great staff too. Love the chain. & I am now a IHG Rewards member. Thank you IHG. It was nice to come back after a long day of work to be able to relax and make a bite to eat so I didn't have to go out. The cupboard had a good variety of food. It would be nice to have more of a variety of soups and maybe some other pre-made options. A pool and hot tub would have been nice too. :o) October 6, 2013

When I brought to his attention that I am a Platinum Member, all he said was "oh". He looked extremely young, like college age; he seemed extremely inexperienced. I was watching a program in my room, and all of a sudden the TV went black. I could not watch the ending of the program. I decided to go out and I stopped at the Front Desk, and told the same male who had checked me in about the TV, he stated it was due to weather and he guessed the cable company would have to reset the system. He had no idea how long it was going to take. When I checked out the morning, the same male was at the Front Desk; all he said was good morning; I told him it was hard sleeping due to the noisey motor on the refrigerator; all he said was "oh". He did not say anything to me about he hoped I would be returning. This was my first stay at this hotel, and I did not feel staff was great. However, the room and bathroom was very clean. I feel that Management should train its staff so all staff know how to interact with the public. September 25, 2013

I don't need the breakfast that is served at some hotels since I have a kitchen to prepare my own. A DVD player to catch up on those movies I have not had time to watch. After being on the road for two weeks, staying at many different hotels and at a vacation house, I felt like I was home when we walked into our room at the Candlewood. The spaciousness of the room - we weren't jammed together. The wonderful huge table in the kitchen/living area. I had forgotten how convenient that was. It was a pleasure setting up all our electronic equipment. Finally, room to put it all. And the outlets for said equipment was mind boggling. I loved the pantry and because we got in late it was nice to be able to get a snack for the evening and then have some good coffee in the morning. We used the laundry services and again, after being on the road for over two weeks, that was very welcome. I do appreciate all you do and all you provide for your clients. Thank you to all. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great place My stay at this hotel was everything I could have expected. The room was spotless. I had plenty of privacy and quiet when necessary. The weekly housekeeping wasn't an issue because everything I needed was already there. Granted, I wasn't there very much outside of Thursday because the convention runs late, but it was a great place to lay down for a few hours between days. It's about a mile or so away from the convention center, but I actually enjoy the walk, so the location is perfect. You can't beat the price, either. If I find myself going to the con again next year, I know where I'm staying. July 11, 2013

Like all of the Candlewood suites there is no servicing of the room (if you're only there three or four days), and there is no restaurant service there, but I chose the place knowing that. I like this better as I can get breakfast at some local place (usually Panera) which works out cheaper than paying for breakfast at the nearby Holiday Inn or breakfast included at a H Inn Express. The room was a good size, clean and everything worked, including the internet. I don't use the Candlewood cupboard but you'd be able to put together some sort of breakfast there if you needed. I'll stay there again if I'm in the area. The gym is pretty minimal if that is important to you . July 8, 2013

The room was completely clean and extremely large for the group of visitors I came with, and had plenty of extra blankets, towels, and other things to go around. The hotel also has a honor-system confection stand where you can pick up late night snacks and useful toiletries. A little far from the Garden State Convention Center, but the walk is well worth the stay at this hotel! June 14, 2013

The manager, Angelo, personally saw to it that my room was clean, smelled good, and that we had everything we needed. My first visit .a few months earlier did not gol too well. The manager; Angelo,asked tme to give him another chance to make things right. I am glad that I had given him that chance. He and his team really did a nice job seeing to my requests. The only problem I had was that they did not have enough pillows. I did not request them earlier when I made my reservation so I can understand why they didn't have any when I checked in. This is a minor item. The hotel was clean, well lit and the pantry was well stocked. The honor system is a great idea. They really do trust people in their hotel. I would gladly stay here again, and recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a good night sleep and a good stay. January 17, 2013
