An excellent hotel for a reasonable price. No pool, but when traveling for business who has time? Kitchen is great, rooms are very clean, and mattress and pillows are very comfortable. Convenient to Shenandoah University, shopping, and highway.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Wish I Could Have Stayed Longer
This was a great hotel and I wish that our family could have stayed longer. Our greatest disappointment in the facility is that there was no pool. Our three year old daughter was looking forward to going swimming.
Also, I scored the sleep quality low - this was not due to the hotel suite. It was mainly due to a toddler who didn't want all the lights out!
All in all, I would recommend this hotel and I look forward to returning when given the opportunity. Perhaps just the hubby and I this time!

Check -in was simple, however, the front desk attendant was more interested in their smart phone.
Room had an odor of cigarette smoking, which was isolated to be coming from the drapery. Had to use the bathroom fan to reduce the intensity of the odor.
Very few amenities at this facility.
Daily housekeeping needs to be requested.
Do not use this facility if you are towing a vehicle. Parking area is very tight.

I have HAD to stay here three times because of contracting agreements and each time was worse than the last. From smelly hallways, rooms, and elevators to competing with the staff for laundry facilities, this hotel is a joke. If I were staying here on a personal trip, I would have left the moment I set foot in any of the rooms that I have been assigned. If you smoke, than this hotel is for you. If you don't (and even those who do but can't stand all of your belongings smelling like smoke) than you should steer as far away from this hotel as possible. If you somehow manage to find a room that doesn't smell like smoke, rest assured that you will find one that smells like rotten Chinese food. Or maybe you'll get the room with the 6 inch hole in the bathroom door...or have to walk by water dripping from the ceiling in the hallway every day. One positive is that they have a simple and common sense pet policy. Good luck. Stay at your own risk.

The refrigerator in my room delivered a grand total of 5 ice cubes after my first 3 hours. The hotel has no ice machine and I was told by the clerk (who kindly brought me about 25 ice cubes) that the owners have asked to place machines but it is Candlewood Policy NOT TO ALLOW ICE MACHINES! This is the first I have heard that, as I know some locations DO have machines from stays in past years. This policy makes it impossible to for a family to have enough ice for the first day for themselves or for someone to entertain guests on the first day. In my entire 16 hour stay, the refrigerator produced 19 ice cubes. As I have now learned this is a policy with Candlewood, I have cancelled my future reservations for one-night stays, and, perhaps, that is exactly what Candlewood wants. Anyway, from now on, Candlewood will not be among my first choices.

The hotel is clean, rooms very nice, kitchens great. Bathroom spacious and towels are nice and thick, not the usual thin ones that other hotels provide. Bed extremely comfortable. My dog was welcome. The front desk staff was excellent, even remembered my name when I went to the desk, several hours after check in. The hotel is conveniently located off Route 81and has several restaurants available, nearby.

In the course of my professional life, traveling away from home on construction projects for extended periods of time( my stay was 8 months ) I have never had such a pleasant experience as my stay at Candlewood/ Winchester. A very unique property concept, that allowed me a home like comfortable stay.
In that they are very pet friendly( dogs, cats, birds) I was permitted to keep a tropical fish aquarium which is an activity that I indulge in when at home, actually having assistance from the staff feeding them when my work or occasional visit home kept me from providing for them.

Another wonderful experience at the Candlewood Suites. We have stayed twice in the last two weeks; once in Winchester and and in Rocky Mt. NC. Both places are highly recommended. The fact that they are pet friendly and the rooms are immaculate, convenient and fully equipped adds to the stay. Bravo! Well done.

No covered area to enter the building & load/unload vehicle. The main entrance Parking area is all yellow striped and has a curb, so no slope to roll the luggage buggy and very small about 15 ft. wide. Not at all easy access to unload/load for an extended stay property. No cover for rain or snow as one unloads the vehicle.
The lobby?was miniscule so 5 people in the area made it crowded and difficult to get through (especially if carrying stuff) and getting to the elevator.
The TV channel line up was good but no CW channel. The flat screen TVs too small for the distance to view from the couch & easy chair or the bed. There's a rule of thumb for screen size and distance to be viewed should be applied for better viewing.
Illegally parked cars was allowed, meaning the entry driveway and turn left was not easy when cars were parked along the narrow side of the building where the entry driveway was and decreasing the turning area when one entered the property especially for a large vehicle.
The suite was good with good bathroom lighting, a well equipped kitchenette, and bedroom. Climate control was good. Lots of outlets to charge devices.

This was only a 1 night stay so I didn't complain....there were no wash cloths, set up for 1 person: 1 fork, 3 pillows, 1 package of regular coffee. Had to go downstairs to get coffee or pay $1.00 a piece to have coffee in the room was not happy about that at all.

The rooms advertised on the site are a bit misleading. When booking my stay I was under the impression that I had reserved a suite that had the bedroom and living space separated. When I checked in I found my reservation to be one room bundled together (not what the website advertised). Other than that the stay was enjoyable. It was a clean environment with all the kitchen basics necessary. The location was decent (close to the highway, grocery store and a few restaurants etc.) though not in the prettiest of part of town.
On another note, be prepared for the super round pillows...they are intense

The staff at this hotel (both at check-in and at check-out) are poorly trained and lack any semblance of customer service skills. The hotel smells and the furniture is dirty!
Where to begin?? At check-in the clerk lacked any customer service skills. His appearance was less than desirable and he smelled of smoke! We were advised that the hotel does not have any ice machines and that when we get in the room we should turn on the ice machine in the refrig!!! Well isn't that dandy. Considering we were there for one night, what do we do for ice until the machine in the refrig. makes ice sometime in the middle of the night - NOTHING!! The clerk could care less.... While checking in we had dog leases (yes plural) rapped around our legs. Now, we have had numerous dogs and cats but we didn't allow them to bother other people. The hotel smells from cooking odors and animal smells!! Our room had been vacuumed but the bed spread had NUMEROUS stains on it from who knows what. The recliner chair fabric was also badly stained to the point that we wouldn't sit in it. The room was a total turn off!!
So, unless you like your room to smell like animals, don't need ice, like soiled furniture, and like dirty bed spreads from people doing whatever on them, DON'T STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!

We booked as a one-night stopover and noted on the reservation that we had a service dog. When we arrived at approximately 7:30, the desk clerk was unsmiling and very off putting. He was ready to charge us for the pet fee and when we noted that the dog was working, he insisted we prove it and not very pleasantly. We also were treated to a discourse on how people try to cheat all the time and say they have service dogs to avoid the fee. It went downhill from there; he continued to be surly and as minimally helpful as he could be. The room itself was comfortable and clean. Next morning when we checked out, I said "good morning" to the day desk clerk .... and got no response at all! A little courtesy and pleasantry go a long way. They missed the boat.

We met our northern family members here for a visit as Winchester is about half way for each family. I picked this hotel for both the reward points and for their pet policy for my fur children....2 well traveled, well behaved, in training to be therapy assistance dogs (Canine Good Citizen Certified). I have stayed in other Candlewood Suites and am familiar with the brand. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. I really like the pantry selection. I fould the first shift and thrid shift staff members to be very helpful and friendly. The second shift person was rude to my husband when he asked for a second pack of coffee. My husband even offered to exchange the decaf pack.
As this is a good meeting point for our families, I suspect that we will stay there again. The second shift person was not a deal breaker for us as the pet policy, reward points, room comfort, local attractions, and ease off and on I-81 makes up the difference.

We did not request but were put in an accessible room. I found the layout awkward, but my husband had no problem with it and we did not ask to change. Room was clean. Bed was comfortable for me, but a little hard for my husband who has back issues. We were traveling with our Scottie and appreciated the reasonable pet fee and the clean room. Stair well was messy with dead bugs in corners, however, and there were lots of cigarette butts around side door entrances.

A pleasant stay after a long drive. Close to several restaurants and easy on/off the Interstate. The only con was that someone had smoked on our no smoking floor. There was no odor in our room and the staff seemed to be on top of the problem the next morning. Will stay again the next time we are through the area.
