Came back to Ventura for a nostalgic reunion. Wanted to stay at the Crowne Plaza. Boy was I surprised to see how years have changed the place. The Top of the Harbor restaurant is not used for dinners or buffets, The Crows Nest on the top floor (lounge) is closed. The hotel is in need of some TLC. This could and should be a happening place but seems to of gone into some neglect. They have added a nice bar and patio area, but nothing like the past!!

The location is great, but the quality of our two night stay was diminished by a couple of issues. One was the bathroom. While small, and nothing can be done about that, it needed maintenance. The ceiling was stained, with burn marks from the lights over the sink, and the vent over the shower was nasty. The lone shelf tipped so badly we worried about things slipping off.
But the big inconvenience was competing with the hotel staff for the elevator. Don't know if they have a dedicated service elevator, but we repeatedly waited for elevators to have them arrive filled with service carts and laundry. It frequently seemed like a couple of elevators were either out of service, stuck on upper floors, or our more likely assumption, being used by cleaning staff to shuttle between floors.
On the positive side, the food and bar service were quite nice, and the view from our balcony was spectacular. A downside of this great beachfront location is it tends to attract a lowlife element the hangs out on the adjacent promenade.

The dining room was closed, only place to eat was in the lobby bar type area, very loud and not dinner atmosphere. Had to go out at night to find a restaurant.
After checking out, paying and being assured there were no additional charges, an additional charge appeared on my credit card account when I returned home. It has taken me 4 days of calling and leaving messages to speak to an accounting person who could not give me a satisfactory answer. This happened to me a year ago, so I questioned the front desk about this type of after the fact charge. She seemed to know nothing about this, assured me again that I had no further charges. For a one night stay my credit card acct has a $62.00 charge on it for ??????? I have truly traveled all over the world and the USA, and have never experienced this except at this hotel. Am still waiting for a call back with an explanation! Check your acct when you return home.
