A good hotel experience marred by horrible customer service

The front-desk was rude and un-inviting.

* It was late at night and I can understand that the front desk staff may have been tired. But we had just driven 5 hours as well and expected some warmth. Instead it was a very rude front desk attendant who really wanted nothing to do with us
* Did not welcome us as a Platinum Ambassador guest
* When we requested a late check-out, it was initially denied. I explained that as a Platinum Ambassador, that's the least we can expect and he said there was nothing he could do. Had pity on us and allowed us a 12:30PM checkout upon further request.
* I asked about water in the room.. pointed us to purchase at $4 or $5 a bottle. Again, my experience with most IHG hotels has been pleasant and they respect the status but we felt very let down here.
* He gave us the keys and pointed to the elevator.. no mention of the option of bonus miles till I mentioned it myself.

This is no way for a hotel to be treating any guest, let alone with IHG status.

My first time at this hotel as the hotels I usually use in the area were all booked.

The hotel is a large property and feels spacious as a result. The rooms are a good size and mine was excellent, possibly a bit dark, but very comfortable and I much prefer having a proper shower in the bathroom as opposed to a shower over the bath.

I only had a drink in the bar, so possibly a bit unfair to judge the bar as being slow, but it was. Breakfast was OK, but used to not paying for it in my first choice hotels!

The staff were generally helpful and friendly, good parking although you can only turn right out of the hotel when you leave it, so plan carefully!

Would I stay again? Yes.

Front desk employee very helpful, welcoming and kind. The hotel is modern, clean and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Internet was great. Reasonably priced.
