How could they get this WRONG!

I and my wife checked in on Friday night, late. My wife and the porter took the bags up to the room while I parked the car. As I was getting on the elevator my wife called my cell very upset. It seems that when she opened the door to our room and stepped in to hold the door for the porter. Some man set up in the bed and hollered at them. My wife immediately backed out and called me. It seems that to computers aren't what they're cracked up to be. For this embarrassment they gave us a free breakfast. The new room was okay, but I had the distinct impression that if we would turn the handles on any of the water faucets too hard then they might come off in our hands. They were all loose and wobbly. There is a ventilation opening in the upper corner of the bathtub that is black and looks like it hadn't been cleaned, ever. Saturday morning we found that the housekeeping staff hadn't left us any new soap. Then at breakfast we were told that there was no menu, just the buffet. I had competition in which to sing, so I left. The next morning at breakfast we were told that there is a breakfast menu available. But, the coupon that the front desk gave us was only good for the buffet. Even though the coupon said, "Full Breakfast." They said that they would make an exception since what we wanted to order was cheaper than the buffet. I'm used to staying at higher quality hotels, so I guess I'm used to that.

Unexpected Delight

Based on the inexpensive price, I was not expecting much. The deep forest setting gives this hotel a "secret garden" kind of cache, particularly seen from the beautiful Bistro 55 restaurant, wrapped in glass.

The design of the room created an angled hallway that buffered any outside noise. I especially appreciated the layers of bedding that allowed me to customize my covers.

A penthouse lounge for Platinum-status guests was also a delightful surprise.

The huge, open, terraced lobby gives the place a resort feel far beyond what the lower-than-the-Holiday-Inn-Express price would suggest. H.I.E.s have long been my favorites, but I will find an excuse to return to Atlanta to stay at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia.

Guest Services and room cleanliness.

When trying to reach front desk to amend reservation, the phone rang twenty times before being answered. I never received a return call after leaving a voicemail, asking for management to return my phone call. Front desk lost my CC authorization. I never received my breakfast voucher.
The room was not very clean upon checkin; bed skirts half on the floor, couch had some kind of spill, crumbs on the floor, bathroom wallpaper had some kind of purple stains.
To top it all off, while trying to check some luggage, I stood for several minutes in front of the concierge waiting for two attendants to acknowledge me. They were laughing about some personal experiences not even work related, not a smile, no eye contact, nothing.
I really expected better, being the hotel in IHG's front yard! Big disappointment!

I am 45 and have stayed at this Crown Plaza since I was a child. It gives me great memories of my family staying here as I was growing up every time I visit here. Always great service and has never aged.
