My husband and I greatly enjoyed our time at the Crowne Plaza Wilmington North. We were met at the desk with a warm smile and that set the tone for our stay. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable. We love to stay at Crowne Plazas for the outstanding service and this hotel did not disappoint!

Average hotel in need of improvement

Despite the largely positive reviews, I was unfortunately disappointed by my recent stay at the Crowne Plaza Wilmington North. There was nothing specifically "terrible" about my stay. However, there were several issues, which combined together contributed to an unsatisfactory stay.

1. When reserving the room, I noted that I preferred a room on an upper level. I can understand not getting the top floor, but I was given a room on the 2nd floor. If the hotel was packed, I could understand, but based on the relative emptiness in the parking lot, I find it hard to believe that the 3rd through 6th floors were all booked.

2. The carpeting in my room needs to be updated. There were several stains throughout the floor, which I would be used to seeing at a lower budget property, but not at a Crowne Plaza. I know that these improvements take time, but there was no attempt to even hide the damage to the carpet.

3. Several appliances / lamps were unplugged from the outlets. I am all for conserving energy, but having cords dangling around the room is not attractive.

4. The coffee machine in my room was missing the tray to hold the coffee filter. In addition, only 1 cup's worth of coffee was stocked in my room anyway. Even if the hotel is trying to save money, almost every hotel at least provides 2 cups.

5. When I ordered room service for dinner, a few of the tray items were dirty. Most notably, the coffee pot had jelly crusted on the side, which makes me wonder if it had ever been washed since breakfast.

Another disappointing part of my stay was the lack of IHG member recognition. As a platinum member, every single time I have stayed with IHG, I have been recognized and even provided with either a complimentary room upgrade, bonus points, a welcome bag with water, or at least a discount at the hotel restaurant.

For this stay, I wasn't even told thank you for being an IHG member and when I called to the front desk for a later check-out, they seemed to have no idea that I was a platinum member.

I specifically went out of my way to stay at this Crowne Plaza because of my commitment to IHG. There was another hotel in the area, which I have stayed with in the past (and that was actually less expensive than my stay at Crowne Plaza) that I know has significantly better facilities. This is why my stay felt so disappointing.

I will give the hotel the benefit of the doubt and say maybe I was given the one bad room in the house or maybe I caught them on a bad day. However, if I am going out of my way to stay with IHG, then I would expect the same commitment to quality and recognition in return.
