Expected More from a Crowne Plaza

Let me start by saying that the front desk, conference, and room service staff were excellent. They were always professional and greeted guests with a welcoming smile. There were several occasions where I felt that the front desk and conference personnel went above and beyond, without even being asked to do so. It might be of benefit to have additional front desk staff during check in. On the day that I checked in, the front desk staff was fast and efficient, but were faced with a large volume of guests waiting to check in.
My two main issues during my stay were with the room and valet parking. Myself and my co-worker booked suites for our stay, and we were both disappointed. First, the suites are on the lower floors in the hotel (5-6). This might be understandable if there was a balcony overlooking the French Quarter, but there was not. So the view, from the only window in the entire suite, was of a building across the street and a few roof tops. Second, and more importantly, the furniture in the room seemed old and mismatched. Several pieces of furniture were very noticeably scratched and gouged. The carpet also seemed very old and worn. Even the phones were old and didn't work properly. All of this led to a feeling of uncleanliness due to age (which cannot be blamed on cleaning staff). There were also no glasses in my or my co-worker's suites. There were only small clear plastic cups and Styrofoam cups for coffee. While the bed was comfortable, overall the room certainly did not invoke a feeling of well being. I have stayed in suites that I could not wait to get back to, but this was not one of them. Regarding the valet, I called down for my car ahead of time and was told it would be down in 10-12 minutes. I went down 5 minutes later to wait. From the time that I got outside to the time that my car came, took 40 minutes. During this time one of the valets kept calling their garage to ask about my car and cars for others waiting. Each time the garage responded "its coming down right now or it just came down." I dont know where their garage is, but no place in the French Quarter takes 40, or even 15 minutes to get to by car. This would not have been so frustrating if they would have just told me the truth in the beginning. I could have waited in my room or in the lobby. There were many frustrated guests standing outside with me.

Hotel Stay

The Crowne Plaza is located conveniently a the corner of Canal street and Bourbon Street. Thsi makes it easy to access either the waterfront or Bourbon Street for entertainment. The Bourbon House located on the ground floor of the hotel has a great selection of bourbon and the staff a tboth the Lounge and the hotel were friendly and courteous.

In reviewing on line blogs about this property prior to booking room it was obvious previous guests have had unfavorable experiences at this property. The poor service and lack of service having room cleaned daily was obviously a repeat problem for this hotel.
