Great location for exploring Queenstown

20 April 2015

Great Hotel overall, the only downside was that the main bar closed at 10.30pm which is way too early for a top class hotel.
Also having paid for a full breakfast were charged extra for tea and coffee.

Our stay was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The speed of the Wi-Fi connection was excellent. The service in the dining room was excellent especially from the young lady on the counter who seemed to do everything about the place at breakfast.

Lovely stay in best location in town

09 April 2015

We spent five nights at the Queenstown Crowne Plaza and loved every minute of it. The young staff was ever helpful at the desk, the car park, the bar and the restaurant. We especially appreciated Fiona the concierge who suggested Captain's when we wanted a good venison meal. But her knowledge really shone when we said we wanted to do a winery day and thought we should have lunch reservations somewhere since it would be Easter Saturday. She suggested Mt Difficulty in Bannockburn, which turned out to provide a wonderful meal (duck, linguine with forest mushrooms) in the most beautiful setting imaginable, high up overlooking desert (almost like Monument Valley), vineyards and mountains. We hadn't read about it in any of our guidebooks. As IHG Platinum members coming in to a freebie, we were kindly upgraded the first two nights to a direct lakefront room for the first part of our reservation, which I had made and then extended another three nights. They had to move us for the last three nights but they still managed to give us a room with a decent lake view and balcony. The rooms were of average size and the beds were luxurious. Valet parking was $15 NZ a day. For two days we bought the $59 NZ package that gave us buffet breakfast, two free drinks and parking. The buffet was elaborate, the kind that eliminated the need for lunch! A chef stood by to make any kind of eggs or omelet, and pans were loaded with sausages and bacon. A fruit and veggie bar provided the ingredients for make your own juice or smoothie in one of those super-powered blenders, an option being heavily used by the giant guys on South Africa's Stormers rugby team, which was staying at the hotel. The glassed-in dining room looks right out onto the amazing lake and mountains, with a good view of the old-fashioned coal-burning steamship pulling in and out and parasail ers gliding by. The location is a definite plus, on the lake in the heart of everything in lively Queenstown.
