Great hotel - very close to being excellent!

First time visit to Reading to visit my son who has just moved into the area so possibly our first of many. Check-in was very welcoming with polite informative staff which made it a pleasant experience. Executive room was comfortable

I stayed at the Crowne Plaza, Reading, after a celebration party with 'old' friends. I stayed on my own but was very comfortable in the hotel.

Highly recommended. Staff were extremely polite, helpful and welcoming which made my stay relaxing and enjoyable. Very spacious and clean room. Will definitely return. Many thanks.

Poor customer service

I have stayed at this hotel a number of times and always found it excellent, however on this occasion I felt that the level of customer service had fallen substantially. On arrival at the hotel the receptionist was very welcoming and enthusiastically acknowledged my Platinum status. Unfortunately he was unable to offer me an upgrade but did give us access to the club lounge. I subsequently asked if robes could be provided and they were. Unfortunately after this the service provided deteriorated. During our 3 day stay we encountered a number of housekeeping issues which I feel should not really have occurred in a hotel of this standard. These where reported and although resolved I felt that the staff involved did not seem to care and were busy making excuses rather than simply apologising..This lack of concern for the client was I feel something that must be tackled by further staff training.
I will probably stay at this hotel again but I would hope to see an improvement in housekeeping standards and staff customer care.
