Mixed opinions

September 25, 2014

We booked our stay to coincide with the Lee Evans show at the NIA, having used Crowne Plaza in other cities before. Given that we had some reasonable expectations regarding room quality. On arrival we were issued with a disabled room for our standard double booking. Normally I am quite happy with that as a room option as they are generally less worn and more spacious. This room however had a 4' double that we would not both fit in, a wardrobe that you couldn't open the doors on, paint and plaster missing around the window and an emergency cord above the bed which was hanging off the ceiling. My wife enquired about a room change and was told there were no other rooms available, until she mentioned the ceiling fitting then miraculously a standard room was made available, which did in fact meet our expectations. We found this quite insulting. I have no idea how disgruntled any couple might feel actually booking that room as a disabled room.
I travel extensively for work and stay at least twice a week in hotel rooms. Had we not had the room change we almost certainly would have travelled home after the show rather than stay and the chain may have been struck off my list as business stay option.
Our stay after it was resolved was great, the room we moved to was lovely, the bed very comfortable and the staff very helpful. If not for the initial cock up it would have been all 4's and 5's

Nice hotel, good location

September 24, 2014

Overall the hotel was really nice, the staff very friendly (especially the Reception and cleaning staff). Reason for only a 3 star for the staff and service relates to breakfast. The food quality was good but unfortunately there was a lack of service at the hot food counter with long periods of absence and food not replenished, resulting in a slow service. That was the only negative experience of the hotel.

Good quality hotel close to all that Birmingham has to offer

September 24, 2014

We usually stay at this hotel when visiting the NIA for shows/gigs. It is located perfectly for the NIA, Symphony Hall, canals, Broad Street, New Street Station and City Centre without being too noisy. Car park is conveniently located and secure. Room rate is very reasonable for this hotel and rooms are always comfortable and clean. Breakfast recommended!

Good value for money

Good for business travelers, but not sure that I would use it for leisure purposes.
