Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great location, very comfortable and staff could not be faulted Once again this hotel was up to my expectations - from fast, efficient and friendly check-in, enjoyable dinner with friends in the Red Salt restaurant (food great plus a fun, entertaining and efficient waiter) to the helpful services of the concierge/s. Some aspects of the room are getting a little 'tired', e.g. the bath, but overall very comfortable. My hotel of choice in Canberra. September 27, 2013

Welcome on arrival was warm, and room was satisfactory, although chairs in room were a lirttle uncomfortable for my wife who is recovering from knee replacement surgery. Concierge was especially helpful, arranging for a mortorised wheelchair at Floriade, while Reception was helpful with my queries and offered a late check-out which was appreciated.. Dining room staff were eager to please, even with a large clientele.. A la carte menu offered reassonably good value. We have stayed at the Crowne Plaza a number of times in recent years, partly because of its great location and partly because it offers reasonably good value and helpful service. Thank you. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 First Impressions While I chose to stay at the Crowne Plaza in Canberra for its location and reputation for comfort and service, I was disappointed by my first impression. I checked in after the recommended time and was given two room keys. I had to use one of the key cards in the elevator to scan up to the floor for my room - this is a cumbersome process in crowded elevators as no one else can scan your floor for you. Also, one of the cards did not work, so I had to go for a long ride up and down until I could scan my floor with the second card. Upon arriving to the room, I discovered that it was being cleaned. So, I traveled back down to reception to be sent to another room which had been cleaned, but an opened, complimentary bottle of water was left behind and labeled for my use (with the 'With our Compliments' card). I found this unacceptable for a hotel chain with a reputation as Crowne Plaza. The rest of my stay was fine, but this first impression affected my overall experience. September 22, 2013

The ambience, friendliness and skill of the staff were fantastic. I think I will go out of my way to stay again next time in Canberra. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great package with exhibition tickets. This is a really conveniently located hotel and we always enjoy staying here. Staff are great. The package - room, parking, breakfast and exhibition tickets - was excellent and exactly what we wanted. Nice to have a new outside parking area, as an alternative to the cramped undercover parking. Food was disappointing: sometimes not as described - Blue Brie is NOT Gorgonzola. Breakfast staff had difficulty dealing with a full hotel with guests actually daring to take advantage of the late breakfast times on Sunday - basics like hash browns and tomatoes ran out. C'mon, guys, get real. The job-lot artwork remains atrocious - we've grumbled about this on numerous occasions. Love the hotel, love the location. Time to change the executive chef ?? Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Worn out room and stone faced reception I booked this room because it was near the convention center where my conference was. The room was small and worn, the bathroom was old, the bathroom door had smudge marks, very unappealing. The reception varied in its friendliness with one particular staff being very stone faced . Other staff were friendlier but this particular one was very nonaccomodating...I had asked why given that I had a room upgrade , where my colleague had received complimentary internet, why I would not receive it. He was not very helpful on this account. The only good thing was the breakfast that came with the room. This was ample and well served. The only advantage to book here is its proximity to the conference center. September 15, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great convenient and comfortable short stay location the staff were very efficient ,exceptionally so on checking in and out..,we had no problems at all during our stay.The concierge was very helpful in supplying directions to Canberra key restaurants and tourist attractions. The room was a good size and comfortable and we faced the park which was lovely as we had no noise at all that would disturb our stay.Breakfast was acceptable ,standard hotel buffet.Restaurant service was good and the meal was of a nice quality on the night we ate there.Staff in every area of the hotel were friendly and helpful but clearly focussed on their work and what they were supposed to do for their clients I would recommend the Crowne Plaza in Canberra we had a lovely Canberra weekend September 8, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location and service We were able to drive to the hotel from the highway with ease. The instructions on the website were very clear. My wife and I were greeted pleasantly by the reception staff . Our room was very close to the lifts, so it made it easy to come and go. The hotel is within 5 mins walking distance from the city and we were able to enjoy the ambience of the city at night. The friendly concierge gave us instructions to get to the supermarket and where to go to get a Chinese meal. Our room was large and airy. The view from the window was over the park. The bed was very comfortable. We enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend IHG Group. We would certainly look to staying with them again. September 6, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic long weekend Recently travelled to Canberra for the Turner exhibition and as I haven't been there for ages, stayed for a long weekend. The hotel was excellent - super helpful and attentive staff with no request being too much trouble. A large, airy, comfortable room with a pleasant review of the park. Buffet breakfast was amazing with so many choices that it filled me up for most of the day! And the prime position, five minutes to the city shopping centre where you could get anything you needed and a short walk to Commonwealth Park and the lake. The only downside was the restaurant for dinner on the Sunday night - we waited almost 45 minutes after we had finished our meal to have the plates cleared and get a dessert menu, this was only after we finally got the attention of the waitress. Then another 20 plus minute wait for the dessert to be ordered which was a disappointing end to what was other than that a wonderful stay! August 31, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent service I stayed here for a conference and extended my stay to check out some of the sites in Canberra. I can't say enough nice things about the staff at this hotel, from reception, to concierge to the housekeeping staff and restaurant, EVERYONE was first class, so friendly, so wonderfully helpful, so professional. I think I said pretty much every day that I was impressed with how wonderful the service was. Rooms were very comfortable and clean (and had great block out blinds). We had a lovely view of the park and surrounds. I don't stay 5 star every day, but I do think I received value for money - I would stay there again without hesitation, especially if I was attending a conference at the NCC. I'm keen to check out their hotels elsewhere now too. August 16, 2013

After driving 4.5 hours to get there, the excellent customer service and efficient check in was much appreciated. The room was great with a lovely view over the park. Had a drink in the bar before dinner, nice ambience and very relaxed. Ate dinner at Red Salt which had a good wine selection and something for everyone on the menu. Also had the buffet breakfast for the first time, very fresh and varied. The hotel is close to good shopping and anything else you want to do in Canberra. Have stayed several times at Crowne Canberra and will be back soon. August 4, 2013

On our return visit we were treated like returning friends, special treats for the kids and a beautiful room to stay in as our baby was sick though they didn't know at the time. We stay here every year before and after our ski trip and we wouldn't stay anywhere else. It is the perfect location for us and the hotel is lovely and very comfortable. I just sink into the bed after a week of skiing :). August 2, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Central location but cost-cutting service and poor language skills The location is very good for Civic but cost cutting is evident among the service staff. English appears to be poorly understood by some staff. One staff member at breakfast reception abruptly stopped speaking with me in mid-sentence to speak with a guest behind me in the queue, who was of a similar 'cultural background' to the wait-staff. The staff member did not apologise to me nor show me to a seat. The decor of the restaurant / breakfast area seems stuck in the brown '80's. Needs a colourful facelift. July 30, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed Having stayed several times at the Crowne Plaza Adelaide, we were surprised and disappointed to find that the Crowne Plaza Canberra was a lot more "tired", even though only 15 years old. In particular, eating in the Canberra Red Salt restaurant was a dreary experience in comparison with Adelaide. We consider the dark brown carpet has a lot to do with this: replacing it with a carpet of lighter, more vibrant colours would do wonders for the restaurant and the hotel in general! July 24, 2013
