Staff was very helpful in directing us to excellent restaurants and helping with city navigation. Location was easy to access CTA train system. Biggest help was staff was willing to hold luggage after check-out until ready to leave for airport. Only con was some staff members were difficult to understand because their English was heavily accented. I have a hearing loss and this made hearing and communication difficult. August 12, 2013

They managed to not only merge two single-night reservation for us seamlessly, but since they couldn't fulfill our request for 2 queen beds (we booked king-size rooms so they were under no obligation to do so), they offered to upgrade us to a corner king suite with a fold-out couch for no up-charge. It's hard to argue with that kind of service when the staff's nerves were probably pretty frayed from madness I'd guess is second only to St. Pat's weekend. August 12, 2013

We did receive a very nice room but the condition was a little "tattered". Obviously an older property that had been remodeled and still utilized floor model heating and air conditioning units that were noisy. August 11, 2013

Only low point was desk staff were very slow compared to other hotels I've stayed at, took about 30 minutes at check in - this was with the check in person, not including the wait time in line. The pub was great. The Resturant on the 40 th floor was never open for business. Very expensive 2 night stay. August 10, 2013

Rooms are clean, well appointed and most important spacious. The only draw back is at times the sirens of the ambulances arriving at Northwestern Medical can be a bit loud even in the rooms. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great location great location and decent price. hotel is really steps from mag mile and walking distance to many attractions in the area - the "L" is very accessble too. the hotel rooms themselves are somewhat "older" though nice. the elevators in the building are rather slow so plan accordingly. the staff was great with helping to arrange our transport back to the airport. would def stay again when in the chicago area. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Service was really hit or miss Three different individuals left a sour taste, however 3 Managers made up for it some, but it shouldn't have to be that way. Perhaps they need better training. The Good: The room was really nice. We had a corner suite with views of lake Michigan and part of Michigan ave. The location was also great. The managers (Julio (res. mgr), Brian (food manager I think) were both great. A few of the bellman were great with the kids during times we were waiting for cabs. The Bad: 1. We arrived at 9pm (which was 10pm back home) and the kids were both asleep. We asked if they could have the rollaway already in the room so we could just put the kids to bed. The person who we spoke to first said, "No. You have to be here in person and I have to have your credit card." It was absurd. So, then we asked to speak to a manager and that manager said they would take care of it. Checked in. Went up to the room and there was no rollaway. We had to call down and they said it was "on the way." It was there pretty quickly, but the first person we spoke acted as thought we asked the impossible. 2. We order breakfast for room service. We requested "Frosted Flakes" for one of the kids. When it showed up, that wasn't the cereal we were given. So, I called down and I was nice but the person said "We were out of Frosted Flakes so we just sent something else." Is that really the way to handle it? Well, the manager (Brian) agreed that they should have called up and offered alternatives don't just send a guess. We didn't want to wait another 40 minutes for a different meal so we dealt with it and Brian comped it. 3. Bags packed, heading up to the room with a cart to get the bags. A bellman walked by and took the cart from me and mumbled something about a full service hotel. He then said to call down when I was ready. I said, I am ready now. He asked what room and then walked away. I wasn't sure what the plan was. So, I went upstairs and after waiting a bit decided to just bring them all down myself. While waiting for the elevator guess who shows up. I told him, "Don't worry about it." The elevator closed saying it was going up. It then re-opened and said it was going down. He didn't make room for us to get in and he took the elevator down. We then waited for the next one. I guess he was upset with us for not wanting to wait for his rude attitude to eventually show up. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Crowne Plaza Chicago Overall the hotel is very nice! The room we had was very nice. The 40th floor pool and lookout lounge was really neat. The only downfall was the service. The conceirge was not helpful at all. When trying to talk to him he acted like he didn't want to talk to us and was trying to rush us through. He wasn't friendly or helpful in any way like I believe a conceirge should be. We ended up having to go to another hotel to speak with there conceirge because we needed information about the city that this guy wouldn't give us. I would stay here again but would hope in the future that they would have a different conceirge working that was more helpful and friendly. August 3, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable room I chose to stay at the Crowne Plaza because of its location to a conference I was attending. I found the room to be too dark to do any work in the evenings. I could not read/study at the desk because of the poor lighting which was a big problem for me. I found I could not use the refrigerator in the room as it was full of beverages and snacks for sale. I did not dare take them out and place them on the counter as I did not want to get charged for them. Also, not having any free internet was a big minus for me as I needed to do work in the room. Doing me work in the lobby where the internet connection is free is not an option. The charge for one day of access to the internet is a bit steep given that other area hotels have it for free (including hotels charging less for the room). I found the staff to be friendly and helpful and the room to be very comfortable. August 3, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very comfortable bed and bedding. We had a great stay - the location is excellent. However, parking is way too expensive and the car port for drop off and pick up is in a very inconvenient location - need more space for this as people were parked in and the regular traffic was honking continuously because of people being in the way - just way too congested. Disappointed that they had no hot tub or sauna - only a small pool. Also feel the hours of pool should be extended to midnight not just until 10 p.m. July 31, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect location Our second stay - for us the perfect location close to the beach, shopping and sightseeing. The room is very clean and overall good comfort. We were lucky to get a late check check-out on our departure date(please remember to make arrangements with housekeeping since they woke us op very early). Many problems with the elevators during our stay. Reception staff friendly when everything runs smoothly. Problems at departure with creditcard that had been refunded without our knowledge. Poor handling and a very bad experience, but due to the nice rooms and wonderful location we do recommend the hotel. July 31, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Family Vacation to Chicago We enjoyed our stay at the Crowne Plaza Magnificent Mile. It is in a great location, just 1/2 block off Michigan Avenue. The room was wonderful - beds were great, although we didn't need a down comforter in July! Loved the clips to keep the curtains truly light blocking since we were coming from overseas and had jet lag. We really appreciated the air conditioning. The front desk staff was very helpful, both when the concierge was busy with other customers and when there was no concierge on duty. The only downside to this hotel was that the pool area had been taken over by a couple of groups of people who made the pool deck their private party area. There was a big concert that evening, which seemed to be the reason for all the "partying". We got there as one group left .They left wet towels all over the floor, liquor bottles and beer cans everywhere. There wasn't a clean pool towel to be found, so I called the front desk. That resulted in towels arriving about 45 minutes later, and in between a visit from security who supervised having the other group remaining clear their liquor remains. This wasn't the environment I wanted to bring my 13 year old into, but I had promised that he could swim so we stayed. I saw at least 3 family groups arrive, look over the situation and immediately leave the pool area with their disappointed kids. I guess the only thing that Crowne Plaza could have done was have someone regularly clean up the area so it didn't become a complete mess. That or post security personnel or restrict people from bringing in their own liquor. Aside from that, it was a great hotel. There were some waits for the elevators due to the number of floors. And there is a fantastic view from the pool deck, so it is worth taking a look even if you don't want to swim. July 29, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice, but Didn't Meet Expectations I researched many hotels in Chicago as we wanted to celebrate our daughters' 3rd birthday in a room just for them. Despite the higher price, we decided to choose The Avenue because the room looked so exciting and kid friendly. The staff even emailed to ask our daughters' names since we were checking on their actual birthday. I was so excited for them to walk in and see this incredible room and we were all greatly disappointed when we walked into a regular hotel room. I called the Front Desk and a tub full of toys arrived 20 minutes later, but the room didn't seem as magical as a housekeeper quickly put stuff around the room. Not only was there nothing in the room when we arrived, but despite knowing it was a special day no one even acknowledged it, plus there was no Wii system or Crayola bath products #we ended up buying our own#! The staff was very pleasant and we did enjoy our stay, however, we're not sure if we would choose this hotel again on our return trip to Chicago. July 28, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A weekend fun! Overall experience was great; however, some guests smoked in the bathroom and the smell of smoke came to our room through the air vent. I complained to the hotel, but it did not go away for our entire stay. I did not like that at all. In addition, our bathroom was equipped for the handicaps so the water from the shower ran all over the bathroom. It needs a better design. The room number is 1515! July 27, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Enjoyed it... Great location for our needs. We were in town for the Pearl Jam concert at Wrigley and the hotel was within easy walking distance to a Red Line station. Room was very comfortable and hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The attached restaurant, Elephant and Castle, has good food and a decent beer selection, be sure to try the Slumdog! Hotel location is optimum for anyone wanting to stay near Michigan Ave. July 26, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible Experience From the beginning I did not feel welcome in the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Magnificent Mile. I am a young 20 year old female who traveled to Chicago with a friend from work. We splurged on the hotel and grew very disappointed upon arrival. The pictures online were obviously touched up because in person the hotel was very run down. After an almost 7 hour drive, arriving at 0700, the staff was rude. We were not greeted and after standing in front of the dest for about 3 minutes I finally approached a desk where I was treated disrespectfully. Being a paying customer I was very disappointed. Understandably, check in time is not until 1500 but a little courtesy would have gone a long way. It would have been nice for someone to suggest a nice breakfast place for my friend and I to eat and relax. There was no concierge but instead an electronic machine that was not helpful. As mentioned, the facilities were run down. Online listed an outdoor pool with service such as dining and drinks. I never once witnessed any employee up on the 40th floor except someone to check chlorine levels. The 40th floor sky lounge was not staffed let alone was in inservice. I think customers should know this before they arrive. Overall, my experience was poor and not only do I not have anything good to say about my experience in this Crowne Plaza, I also will never stay at any other Crowne Plaza Hotel. July 23, 2013

Small things like no soap or shampoo or no wash cloths add up. The tub barely drained, and the carpet soaked from previous tenants. I called housekeeping daily for assistance. July 22, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Confused What happened to replacing drinking glasses & ice bucket? Our room was cleaned (?) beds were made & towels replaced. But we had the same dirty drinking glasses & the ice bucket we had the same water from the day before. The bed was very comfortable & we had a very nice room. On the same visit, My daughter used some of her rewards points the 1st night & got a room 1/2 the size of our Sr. Citizen discount room, and then paid more the 2nd night of her stay, for the same small room. Beware, if you use your rewards points you get a much smaller room then you would if you were paying full price. July 20, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great room and service!! We loved everything about our stay. The location is great. One block from the Nike and Disney stores. Walgreens is just around the corner. All kinds of shopping. Can walk or Trolley to the Navy Pier too. The Red line is close by and easy to take to Wrigley Field. The room was very nice and the hotel staff was great from the doorman to the maid service. The on site restaurant had a great breakfast too. The pool on the roof was very nice. You can order food service in the pool area as well. We arrived early and were able to check in as soon as a room was available and we departed late and extended our check out time by an hour. We would definitely recommend this hotel and will stay there again! July 17, 2013
