Good Staff. Shame about the rest

By

March 02, 2015

The staff here are, in my opinion, trying to make up for a hotel that is struggling.
The temperature in the rooms were simply unbearable.. You cant open a window to cool off, so we were stuck. They offered us box fans after my second attempt at complaining...but then only had one fan to service our 2 rooms. I gave it to my mother for the room she occupied.
The smell of the rooms was somewhere between a damp basement, humid attic or a wet dog.

When engaging the staff about the problem, they were polite and willing to help, but I received 4 different stories from the staff members about what the problem was. It took me over 3 hours for me to get to someone in the management chain (the GM) whom could actually assist me and by that time it was 1 am. I had driven 8 hours and been up for 17. I was not in a mood for polite patience: I wanted a comfortable room, where to lay my head and rest before setting out on another 10 hour trip the next morning. The staff took this in stride, and patiently assisted me so I have to give them kudo's where it is due! It just should not have taken so long to come to an agreement, at such an hour of the night. It may be normal business operation hours for them, but for the customer...it's late!

The GM, George, to his credit was willing to help, and he made my stay fiscally worth it. However the fact remains the facilities themselves were substandard to the standard of which Crowne Plaza is typically affiliated. Looking over other reviews it seems the temperature has been a problem since January 2015.

By now it should have been repaired or addressed, but obviously was not.

Expected more out of a brand like Crowne Plaza

club

Stayed past two weeks on business and one good thing that stood out was the excellent mattress on the bed. Breakfast is good too and the staff very friendly.
Other than this everything was downhill. Cannot call the front desk for anything i.e. they just don't pick up the phone. Housekeeping does not replace used toiletry items, don't empty coffee pots or replace supplies (happened on two days each week both weeks). Wi-Fi is horrible and a joke i.e. cannot connect and get any work done. A/c needs the attention of the engineer every time to work right i.e. it is not automatic hot/cold. Desk chair height leveling lever was broken and the hotel did not get it fixed i.e. basically for 4 days I had to live with not adjusting height. They also have an old TV system and you would run out of patience before trying to watch something.

not impressed

platinumelite

To sum it up, I prefer HIE, they don’t try and be “upscale”
and in turn do not fail at it.
The $27 steak I ordered medium well, came to me raw, waiter insisted
I ordered it that way, even though 5 guests I was with heard me order otherwise.
When waiter insists my order is correct, not what I expect at “upscale” hotel
then the cut of meat was horrible.
I got a suite, expecting a fridge in room, only to be told “they are out of fridges”
Room was stuffy, so I tried to turn on AC, turns out maintenance needs to pull wall panel
and manual change, I was told that was process, since no one showed up to perform this.
You set a certain expectation, and from my experience don’t meet it. HIE sets an expectation and meets it. I realize you are same chain, but unless business requires, I will not stay in Crowne again

Dear Moby1969, Accept our sincerest apologies regarding your stay experience at our hotel! We will be meeting with our Chef to discuss your dining experience. We will also discuss the thermostat issue with our chief engineer. We understand as a Crowne Plaza our guests have certain expectations. This property will be undergoing updates during the rest of the year. Hopefully, these changes will satisfy every single expectation from guests like yourself. In the meantime, thank you very much for staying with us! Sincerely Jeff Wood General Manager
