We came to town for the Penguins/Wings game. GO PENS! Right away we had some problems.
There seemed to be a total lack of signage at the valet parking area and no one seemed to know where to go.
Once we were approached by the attendant, he almost drove away before I could make my way to the back seat to get my bag.
Check in went well enough. I was a little disappointed by the lack of perks for reward members but not terribly so. The gentleman helping me was very knowledgable at check-in as well as later when my friend and I wanted to grab something to eat. I do recommend that if you are going to suggest the people mover, make sure you tell them it has a cost. We should have assumed so but we weren't anticipating that we would need change. (we only had Canadian change) We ended up paying with a $5 as that it the lowest USD we had.
We had asked for a room away from the elevators as I am a very light sleeper. Instead we were put right beside the elevators.
As many others have stated; the glass doors on the bathrooms are really awkward.
I went to use the shampoo in the morning only to find that it was empty.
The toilet and shower were also not as clean as they could be. From working in a hotel for several years I know how tempting it can be to cut corners when you're busy but it was noticeably dirty.
The mandatory valet parking is annoying but considering the cost of the hotel in comparison to hotels in Eastern Ontario, it was still cheaper
Like I said, These are small issues but when all is said and done it did affect how we felt about our stay. The hotel is beautiful and location can't be beat but these little things matter.

Excellent location for when I come into town for a Red Wings game. Staff is fantastic and the accommodations are very good. I will be back again.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Wiz89 Nice new lobby, but nothing else refinished. Website inaccurate.
Room was dusty and there was some small bits of trash around. Elevator shaft was heard through the wall. Location was the only huge upside to this hotel. Also, on the website it says if you stay in an executive level room you'll get "dinner snacks" and a bathrobe. If also claims there is a separate area from the bed room. The "separate area" is about 4x4 and is essentially a small connector hallway to the bathroom from the bedroom which is more of a bedroom/living room. Mind you this is in the "Deluxe King Executive Suite". When I called guest services to mention some of these things he said he'd never heard of there being a bathrobe or snacks and that all the "deluxe executive" rooms had that was different from "executive" rooms was a sofabed.
Also, this hotel had apparently closed and reopened as the Crown Plaza Detroit Convention Center after doing some renovations. To us, and yes we had stayed there when it was the "Riverfront", nothing seemed one bit different except for the lobby.
