Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Missed chance for a memorable stay. Should not,have happened. It's never nice to enter a hotel where there is a big party going on. Therefore reception was not very interested. We had exchanged mails about our different reservations so,that we could stay in the same room for the 3 night stay but they didn't know. Being "platinum members" we were not recognised and no upgrade, no newspaper and had to ask for the extra voucher. For the 3 night stay we were given a basic room and a bathroom with a washbassin for children. Small and low! The elevator didn't work for 2 days and being seniors they could have given us a room on a lower floor, or at least ask if we didn't mind. Climbing 2 big stairs was not easy! Breakfast was good but took so long that we didn't return. When the next morning I told the reception that we where somewhat disappointed nothing was done to make our stay a success! December 6, 2013

The staff are very pleasant and very helpful which makes you feel relaxed which leads to a very enjoyable stay.. Well done to all and see you soon. December 4, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Room very, very noisy The hotel as a whole is clean, the staff friendly and check in and check out was reasonably quick. The room was a good size and well equipped. Where this hotel let me down is the amount of street noise. I understand it is a city-center hotel, but my room was practically above the Wetherspoons pub next door and the seal around the double-glazed window was non-existent, so I was kept awake for most of the night by revellers in the street shouting and screaming until gone 3am. Not good when travelling for business the next day. And then the fire alarm went off at 7am so we had to evacuate the building (a regular occurrence, apparently). Would only recommend if you take earplugs. December 2, 2013

It is a high quality hotel where you can rest after a long day off walking trough the city. The food is excellent and the service makes you want to come back. All the staff is nice and interested in their guests. This makes you feel very welcome. December 1, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by A hotel of two halves We stayed in the 'new' part of the hotel. The room was pleasant and had been recently decorated. However, the mattress had not been replaced and was very uncomfortable, with a huge dip in it. I had a really poor sleep. The service in the bar and restaurant was good and the food we had was nice. It would be better if the cooked breakfast was buffet style. However there was an excellent selection in the continental buffet. We've stayed in the hotel twice before in the old part of the hotel and those rooms have much more character. If this was our first stay, I probably wouldn't return. However its location is good and car park is handy. November 27, 2013

Had a very early flight next morning so no chance of sampling the cooked breakfast. Given a dismal 'breakfast box instead. A couple of pieces of fruit, croissant and a pastry. No bottle of water. No nice touches like fruit juice, yoghurt - just two plastic SPOONS to spread my butter and jam on the croissant! Disappointing - why not try a bit harder to impress a departing traveller rather than leaving them feel short changed? November 26, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Hmmmm We were in Edinburgh for an overnight stay and were a little disappointed in the room.Obviously a lot of money has been spent on the main lobby,restaurant,bar,etc,but the guest rooms are a little dated. The room we had was relatively small,the tv had no channels and the water flow from the shower was pretty poor. The room was clean as you would expect and the bed was comfortable enough.The breakfast was fine,although nothing brilliant. The bar was clean and bright,although the service was not too great,a bit on the slow side considering the hotel was as quiet. The location is excellent,but I would have to think seriously before returning,considering the price and the overall experience. November 26, 2013

It got even better after I arrived. They helped me arrange golf outings, get car rentals, and recommended additional restaurants in the area. They were the best!!! The hotel is centrally located in Edinburgh and a beautiful area to walk around and explore. The room accommodations were great and the hotel staff exceptional. November 25, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A good stay overall just lacking in places Stayed for 2 nights in a Club Room which allowed access to the (somewhat soulless) Club Lounge. Room was a good size and spotless - had everything you needed the odd extra touch (e.g. bathrobe and water). Unusually, only Freeview TV though. Staff working during the day were excellent. For me, just the right balance between chatty and professional and took time to enquire on our day. The nightshift staff were a complete contrast and treated as an inconvenience when requesting drinks in the Residents Lounge. Many drinks were not available and those that came took more than 20 mins to be delivered with no apology. I recognise nightshift staff have a number of duties but shouldn't guest service be number one? The Leisure Club was busy when I visited but had a good range of facilities (gym, steam room, pool) - something to suit everyone. A good stay overall - and would stay again - but so easily could have been much better. November 14, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great spot! Have visited Edinburgh several times before and this was our first stay in The Roxburghe. Really pleased with it. It has a comfortable, friendly feel and the staff were lovely. The concierge was very helpful and friendly, the desk staff attended to us promptly and courteously and welcomed us like old friends. The room was bright and spacious and the bed very comfortable. Maybe more choice of pillows - I found them rather stiff though my partner liked them. Spa and pool facilities were a great bonus. The hotel's location is superb. Plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants nearby. All the sights are handy - the Meadows and Scottish parliament are only about 10 minutes walk, the castle maybe 12-14 minutes as you are walking uphill for the approach. All in all a lovely hotel, good value and great staff. November 7, 2013

Great location, wonderful decor, excellent food, nice room, good leisure facilities and very helpful ad friendly staff. The late weekend breakfast and late checkout helped make this a very relaxing weekend. Looking forward to staying there again soon November 6, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Affordable luxury! We had a wonderful stay at the Crowne Plaza, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, great service and very welcoming. The bed and room were super comfortable, the shower brilliant and lovely big soft fluffy towels and bathrobes. The breakfast was superb, everything you could imagine on the menu. Perfect position between George and Princes Street, lovely spa treatments, a real treat and would love to stay again. November 6, 2013

They are also well appointed. Staff were without exception friendly and helpful. The arm coming out to the shower-head is short which means that to get under the water you have to stand very near the bathtaps. The water from the shower-head comes straight down. A different type of shower-head which threw the water outwards would enable one to stand nearer the centre of the bath which would be far more comfortable. November 3, 2013

Was made welcome and would recommend their brunch menu which was great value and of excellent quality. My only disappointment was the room that I was in had a small window which made it a bit dull and to illuminate it you had turn on various lamps instead of one switch. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Expected better. Was looking forward to my stay as I'd read good things about the hotel since it's conversion to a Crowne Plaza. Location is excellent, steps away from the bars and restaurants on Rose st. Front desk staff, were generally pretty good,check-in was smooth but did they did not offer information on the Club lounge. When i asked, they were pretty vague, or did not know. No recognition of Platinum status either. The room was inward facing and therefore quiet, but it was very gloomy and miserable. Pillows and bed were not of the highest quality and I slept poorly on both nights. The club lounge, while nicely furnished was poor. Happy hour is literally 1 hour. Understaffed, with slow service. Drinks selection is poor, with red or white wine, and a choice of 3 warm beers. Staff come across as rude, telling people to sit down, refusing to allow people to serve themselves. While the canapes are of a good quality, there simply are never enough, and if/when they do arrive, they're cold. Breakfast in the lounge is marginally better. The continental offering is poor, however they do allow you to order from a menu, which provides an additional hot breakfast. Nice- but tiny portions. The recently refurbished bar/restaurant is a nice area, however, it is again let down by woeful, lethargic staff. Service is very slow, even when the bar is quiet. Trying to order drinks is a minefield; Me -"Heineken please." Staff "Heineken barrel needs changing, can you have Amstel instead?" Me "er, okay" My wife was trying to choose a cocktail, but they did not have several ingredients, including coconut milk and Amaretto, among others. No apology, simply, we don't have this and we don't have that. Very poor. Overall, quite a nice property with some potential, but many of the staff need re-training to bring them up to IHG standard, and their attitudes need to change. The hotel is simply not as good as good as it seems to think it is. Next time, I'll try the CP Royal Terrace. November 3, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Room without a view I have stayed at the Roxburghe Crown Plaza hotel a few times, and the first thing to say is that it's brilliantly positioned in Edinburgh. The good rooms are very good. I've had castle views (excellent# & looked out over George St #nice). But this time I had the view over the bins, and the room was dark and the windows had to stay closed because of the smell of the bins & the kitchens below. You also should bear in mind that the city centre gets going quite early, and the noise of bottles being collected was one pre-8am alarm call, and nearby drilling was another. The room was fine though, in the bathroom, neither the electric razor plug nor the TV volume control worked. November 2, 2013

The leisure club and facilities were fantastic too - I only wish I'd brought my trainers to have been able to try the treadmill out. The entrance is stunning and made us feel like VIPs the moment we walked in. November 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great service and friendly staff My husband and I visited the Hotel as an anniversary treat. From arriving at the Hotel we were treated very well indeed. Left in our room was a card wishing us a Happy Anniversary and the bowl of fruit was a nice touch. We had a meal in the restaurant we were given a free glass of chamapnge each . When our dessert was served to us the Chef had written on my plate Happy Anniversary in chocolate syrup. These little touches are what makes the difference between an Hotel and an excellent hotel. We will be returning and I would suggest this hotel for a treat. The only slight downside is its location it is quite a walk from the train station . October 28, 2013

The reception in style and nature of staff gives a real feel of luxury, which on the whole is replicated throughout the visit. Within yards of central Edinburgh. couldn't fault ans although minor issue with door keys deactivating a few times, staff couldn't do enough to sort; identifying issue as walking by, coming back to the room to double check working again,. etc. October 28, 2013

Front of house were superb, and it was so good to see the breakfast Head Waiter still smiling his welcome. Although the fantastic, and very memorable, breakfast spread of five years ago, has downgraded to a pathetic cold buffet and a plate order. The best thing I can say is that we are already planning a return in 2014. October 28, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Overnight stay The staff were quite welcoming especially the porter. On the surface the twin room looked quite comfortable. It wasn't till later in the day I noticed a lot a dust in the room and cobwebs. It looked like housekeeping had not cleaned the room properly. On departure the receptionist did not ask if we had enjoyed our stay or how was our room. Very disappointing for a four star hotel. Housekeeping very poor. October 17, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by OK Staff were excellent. Friendly & helpful. Cannot fault that. The room was extremely hot and the air con very poor so rather uncomfartable in the room to say the least. Breafast was good but serive shocking after waiting about half an hour we had to ask someone if they woudl actually serve us ! We were not the only ones. The quality of food and service in the evening also not very good. After waiting half an hour for the dessert to come out we had to ask if there was any chance of it arriving... Not really that impressed wiht the place given those experiences October 17, 2013
