The staff was ok, the carpet in my room did not meet to the wall, the view was good, but the lights went out for a few hrs in the early a.m. we weren't offered a discount for this. I won't book another visit. Not worth the price, and breakfast is 12.95 a p person. This place was not worth the price of the room or the breafast, went to Ihop. October 10, 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bad experience I have recently opened an office in Fort Monroe and I was looking for a home base and a hotel to stay at and put people up that were visiting the office. I started using the Crowne Plaza. It now seems like a big mistake. During the 3 or 4 times that I have stayed at he hotel i have noticed the following in the guest rooms Badly stained and torn carpeting fixtures in the bath room that are loose and hang off the wall such as make up mirrors, toilet paper holders.The shower head that comes through the wall was loose and you had to hold the pipe with one hand and use the your hand to adjust the flow of water. I held a company event last week in the hotel using 2 of the 4 ballrooms. There was a sliding divider that was open between the ballrooms. The last four sections of the divider were off the track and badly water damaged with large holes, you could see into the other room. We were having a 40th anniversary for the Company employees and there was a motivational speaker in the next room with a large crowd. The noise overtook our event and made it very uncomfortable. It was the worst time. I went to the front desk and asked for a manager and I was told to leave my name and number. I was never contacted. I was in the hotel for 2 more days. Phone messages and emails to the GM have since gone un answered. Several people took photos of the damaged divider as they could not believe the hotel would rent the space in the condition it was in. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Staff and unique ambiance I can't say enough about the welcoming and helpful staff at the Crowne Plaza in Hampton! My family stayed for a week, while in town for business, and we were sad to leave when the week was up. From the front desk (Bridget, et al) to the operations manager (Tony) to even the engineering support staff, every employee greeted us with a smile, and most of them greeted us by name by the end of the week. Any issues we faced throughout the week with our one-year-old daughter staying in the room with us, the staff went above and beyond to meet or exceed our needs. The staff serving breakfast each day (Vicki, Pam) were an extra special blessing, and went out of their way to set aside special treats for my daughter (fresh fruit, cut to the right size)! The room was spacious and bright, making it easy to feel at home and not cramped, as I often feel on travel. Additionally, the decor was unusual - a nautical theme, to complement the beautiful views overlooking the water. I can honestly say that this is one hotel that I will gladly revisit should the opportunity arise! September 30, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Weekend we were married 27 years ago in Norfolk while I was stationed at the Naval Station and had decided to spend our Anniversary in the area. When we arrived at the hotel later than expected on Friday night I expressed to the desk clerk that if possible could we get a room with a view (had a reservation for a king bed). Heather was more than helpful and when I mentioned it was our Anniversary she upgraded us to a suite on the top floor (that room was bigger than some apartments we've lived at in the past). Lydia from the dinning area gave us a tour of the amenities offered by the hotel and said if we needed anything that weekend to ask her and she would help us out, she was very friendly and helpful. On Sunday morning before we left to return home we had the buffet breakfast in the dining area, the cook on duty was Vicky who made one of the best omelets we have had in a long while. The three of them especially and the rest of the friendly and helpful staff made it a great weekend getaway for our Anniversary. September 27, 2013

The employees were very friendly.The carpet in the room was terribly stained which I find unacceptable. The air conditioner was very loud. I feel the hotel has to focus on those things to make it the 5 star property it can be. I feel with Hampton University close by that the hotel thinks they can push the envelope a little bit because of a steady traffic flow. September 26, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My 2 night stay. I just stayed in your hotel for 2 nights while my house was having renovations done. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. I needed help with getting my bags in the care. The lady at the front desk when I was checking out helped me by letting me pull up. Then she came all the way out to the curb and put my heavy things in the car. I wasn't supposed to lift anything. I didn't ask for her to do this. She just did it . It was wonderful. The room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. Yes I would visit again. September 25, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not what I was promised I reserved a room for my mother-in-law. I paid the extra money for a room that had a view of the harbor. When she got to her room, I noticed that the view was of the parking garage. Then there was some college team also staying at the hotel room. Needless to say it was not a quiet stay for my mother-in-law. She had to knock on the room next door a number of times to ask them to quiet down. If you need to stay in Downtown Hampton, its the only choice. If you can stay somewhere else, do so. September 21, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by bad parking and some service I drive a full size SUV for my job. The parking area did not have enough clearance for me to park there, so they sent me to the "overflow" lot. It was full and it was at night so I go back in the loby and ask where do I park? They said go down the street a block and park in that city "free" parking area. I did and the next morning I got chewed out by the woman working that parking lot for leaving my vehicle on her lot without a ticket even though I was told to go there and the front gate was unattended and open the night before Also, both days the staff members forgot to put coffee in my room and one day someone moved my thermostat up to 78 degrees! It should be left where I had it set since it is my room and should be at my comfort level. Breakfast buffet was excellent, but so expensive that I cold only eat there one day in a week. The front desk staff members were very good. I normally don't complain, but a hotel of this caliber should provide better service. September 10, 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Rundown and dirty Stayed at this hotel recently. First we were not given the room I had requested back in Feb when I made the reservation. We were moved to 3 different rooms within the first hour of arriving. Each room had something wrong. I made our reservation in Feb for our Aug vacation you would think they would have had time to get it right. Hotel is dirty has a nasty smell about it. Staff is not friendly at all. September 7, 2013

I stayed in the Hampton Suite in Hampton, Va. The furniture was old, the carpet was worn and the mattress on the let-out couch did not have any bedding and contained a large stain. For a suite, I did not expect such a poorly conditioned room. August 28, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Maintenance problems My shower was lukewarm, while the sink had hot water. Maintenance came and said the shower handle was broken inside, so it would not adjust. They could not fix it until the water to the entire building was cut, because there were no shut-offs for individual showers. Maintenance called the front desk and got me moved to a room with a functioning shower. In the new room, the sink drain would not open and close. It let the water out slowly. I reached under the sink and found that the sink drain plunger was not connected. As in the sink in my own home, vertical movement of the control connects to a horizontal rod, which in turn moves the stopper up and down. The horizontal rod was broken off (I could feel a sharp broken piece) and was missing. I called the front desk, but I was not in a hurry to have it fixed because I was about to leave on a tour. As I was waiting for the tour bus, I met the maintenance man and told him of the problem in the new room. He said that teen-agers are rough with drains and sometimes break the levers off. I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights but the drain never did get fixed. I forgot to tell them that the sliding glass doors at the first room seem to have been installed wrong, or were malfunctioning, because only one side moved. If you were outside the shower with the door closed, the handle was inside the shower (on the wrong side of the glass) and it was difficult to open the shower door. The flush toilet stopper at the second room was slowly letting water out, so it re-filled every few hours with quite a noise. I forgot to mention that one, either. The smoke alarm battery outside my room was running down, and it was "cheeping" every twenty minutes or so. I called the desk and the smoke alarm was fixed quickly. My impression was that poor quality plumbing fixtures were installed and that routine maintenance was not given a high enough priority. August 21, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not a good experience Had to switch rooms twice. First room had the strong odor of a Cigar Bar which was unpleasant. The second room we were placed in had a very uncomfortable mattress, for both me and my wife, terrible night sleep, it had no refrigerator in place and the remote for the t.v was not working. I've travel a lot for various reasons but this Hotel seems to fall short in a lot of minor details that should just come second nature to a major hotel chain. August 21, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Door in room broken first night Our door to our room would not latch the first night, for 3 people 2 bath towels, ice machine wasn't working, for as an expensive hotel as it was, no fridge, microwave or DVD player in the room. Would not stay there again. For a Crown Plaza I expected better service! There wasn't even a hair dryer in the room. Staff I felt didn't even care. August 17, 2013
