Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 HORRIBLE When I checked in the lobby was appealing but as soon as I turned the corner to go to the elevators the mess began. The floors and public areas were not well kept up. I payed extra for a view and you had to stretch to see it and the hotel was not nearly full. The hallways on our floor smelled so bad I was nauseated and was going to ask to be moved. However I checked the other floors and they were the same. My room only smelled a little and I sprayed cologne to live with it overnight. I was so disappointed with the beds, they were lumpy and very uncomfortable. Then to top it off the water temp was barely warm. I have NEVER written a bad review about any hotel. However when I got this email I couldn't help myself. I should have asked for my money back and gone someplace else. July 27, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly service, clean but dated room The staff was quite friendly and helpful. The room was clean although somewhat dated. There were only3 things that made for less than good ratings . One, the maid service started late in the day (1700), after a day at work not a good thing. Two, limited shopping in the area ( one 7-11) and a limited number of restaurants near by. Three, the ice machines on each floor were unreliable and you had to go to the bar (when it was open) to get a small amount of ice. All in all I would stay there again. July 24, 2013

I could hear the people in the next room talking (in normal volume) as if they were standing in my room. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Service was poor. Their was no ice in ice machines. It took to long for the maid to clean rooms. After 5pm is not acceptable. The maid had no bath towels on Saturday at 5pm. No microwave ovens or Refrigerator in rooms. It took entirely to long to be check in. On Friday it was after 5:30pm Over all service was poor. I will never stay at your hotel again not unless you inprove the service. July 21, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good, But Could Be Better Overall, our experience here for four nights was good. Check-in was prompt and efficient, parking was convenient and easily accessible and the included breakfast was excellent (particularly our waitress Whitney). However, there is room for improvement. For example, this was the first hotel we ever stayed in without a refrigerator in-room. When we asked about it (thinking it was only our room without one), we were told that none of the rooms had them and the staff member offered no further explanation. Other minor things that could have been improved such as providing enough sets of towels (from the outset) for all of the members in the room. We booked a room for four people and were given three sets of towels, necessitating that we request an additional set each time they were needed or replaced. Another example was that our shower did not drain adequately. Two requests were made and it the problem was addressed, but we were left with two shower doors off-track (which we fixed ourselves). These minor inconveniences marred our stay, resulting in a "Good" rather than "Excellent" rating. July 19, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good stay Second year we have stayed at this location for a tournament. Great location and the staff at front desk and at breakfast were good. We even spent some time on the marina for grown up time. Would recommend and definitely stay again. It is older but I think they are doing a good job trying to keep the hotel from showing its age. There were four teams staying in the hotel and they seem to handle the crowd with ease. July 19, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Just off of the Interstate Yet on the Harbour This property is located less than 5 minutes from the interstate on the harbour and near downtown Hampton. Free parking and internet made this appealing versus the downtown locations with their higher costs. As a Platinum member I was entitled to several complimentary selections from snack shop. Understand that the hotel is not new but you would not know that from it's good condition. The rooms seem modern and mine had an excellent view of the marina. With a pool, exercise facilty and several eating establishments on the premises it is easy to do business here. Check-in was the only thing that was unstat, I arrived after 4 PM yet was told my room was not ready and the staff gave me no estimate for the wait time. I had to wait more than 20 mins for a room to be made available. Understand that the hotel was full the night before and for that night also, yet 5 hours after checkout time when they knew a Platinum member was due in no rooms being available was completely unacceptable. One would think that the staff should clean the rooms of checkouts visitors first so that rooms are ready. They could not have done this. This is the reason for only an average stay. July 18, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Blair Family Reunion Check in was a total fiasco! Was told that check in time was 4:00; guests arrived at 3:00 and rooms were not available until 8:00pm that night. Very slow elevators, broken ice machines. Had to reschedule family reunion activities for Friday night, because of lack of room availability. Had an extremely expensive, unplanned meal at Oyster Alley, because again everyone was tired and just wanted a quick meal so that they could go to bed. Would not recommend for a large family function. No room service on Saturday. July 15, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Left items in room and couldn't get them back Overall our stay was good. Shortly after I checked out I discovered I had left a couple of items in the closet and called so they could be held so I could have someone pick them up. I was told that someone would call me. I called again Monday evening, and again no one returned my call. I called twice on Tuesday, and again no one returned my calls. I'm assuming housekeeping took the tops and they are forever lost, as the hotel apparently doesn't have a policy that if anything is found in the room it is taken to a lost and found. I am very disappointed in the way this was handled, or should I say not handled. Otherwise, our stay was good. Michelle in the lounge and Oyster Alley is AWESOMELY GOOD!! The bar manager, not so much so. She closed the bar early every night she could, and we had to go elsewhere one night. July 11, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Customer Service The service provided at this Crowne Plaza did not meet my expectations. The check-in policy was to have room ready by 4pm but we didn't have a room ready for us until 5:30pm. There was no specific explanation as to why it was delayed. After the room key was issued, I asked for a luggage cart so that I can wheel my lugguge in. They asked me to check the hallway in the lobby to which none were to be found. I then asked whether they can help me find one and their initial response was that they're probably all in the guest rooms and that there's nothing they can do. I then brought up the fact that the carts can potentially be just parked outside the guest rooms or next to elevators after they were used. It wasn't until after I spent an unacceptable amount of time convincing them before they finally sent someone up to the guest floors to help locate a cart for me. Other than that, the rooms were fairly clean but the double beds were smaller than those found in HIE brands of the IHG chain. Overall this was not a location I would recommend. July 11, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible experience for a 4 star hotel I am a frequent international traveler and have stayed over twelve dozen hotels in the last about 10 years globally. I have traveled single as well as with my family. With a touristic eye for travels and the in-living experience at diverse hotels from youth hostels to 7-Star Hotels, I really feel confident and comfortable of what I am comparing here in my review. So I had initially planned a reservation for 2 nights for a family getaway at this hotel. Sooner than later I realized that the treat of two nights would be a continuation of punishment so I managed to reduce my stay to one day right after spending a few hours on my first day of arrival. Check in Experience: I was standing in a line where guests were scattered, not making it easy to understand whether they were checking-in or checking-out and confusing every new incoming/ checking-in guest. This should be the customer service responsibility to nicely request for straightening out such issues. After all, it's a hotel and it's in business that's why people are coming in. Anyway, after some unnecessary wait and look around, I get called by the Hotel’s Front Desk Agent. The Front Desk Agent did not have a name tag/ badge on. I wasn’t sure what to call her. Either way, I didn’t hear any welcome greeting or even a welcoming smile that I have just about almost gotten accustomed to specially on occasions like the July 4th as a checking-in guest at Hotels. The agent was not aware of a lot of questions, perhaps was someone knew. Even though I was surprised that the hotel would put a newbie on the front desk during it’s peak busy hours of the busiest day for checking-in by out-of town guests. To top it off, I had a Marinara King Nonsmoking room reserved online and had a copy of the confirmation in print. I was told that I don't have that but instead a standard King Room. On my insistence to the agent to check with the manager, she went inside, took about 10 minutes and returned confirming that I was right. Come on, you should know better how to run your business better. I am not very demanding but as a checking-in guest to the hotel, perhaps an apology by the manager or even the agent would suffice if the Hotel can't afford to give away something small such as a special hot coffee as an apology? So I have a romance package which per the hotel is a combination of Champaign and Strawberry covered with chocolate in a nice presentation. This was advertized as a paid package online with the hotel, not a hotel courtesy and I did pay for it. I have had several presentations of that sort in the past and to-date, this was the most unpresentable way, something that put off my wife so much that she didn't touch the chocolate strawberries. Brown plastic tray, with blue glass plate for strawberries, silver ice container for the bottle and glasses with no cloth underneath or over the top. I suggest that the hotel service management watch some Youtube videos to learn how to present a serviceable tray as a special package served to the rooms on special occasions. Not the mention, I thought that the servicing staff personnel could have dressed better for an occasional service. It took me two reminder calls and a total of 6 hours to get the tray and left over food out of the room, while we were mostly staying inside the room. The room was considered so special that they didn't want to give it to me despite my reservation of it but there was no freezer or refrigerator. Seriously now, what century is the hotel targeting customers from! Went to the hotel restaurant, met the same server who served us in the room, and was sweating. On inquiry, I was told that they didn't have power in the restaurant and it was obviously hot on July 3rd to sit inside. So I was suggested to go and sit in the outdoor cafe and the servers there could help me. Obviously, the Restaurant staff won't serve their menu in the outdoor cafe and only limited menu of the outdoor café was accessible to guests. I go to the cafe and wait for about 5 minutes to wait for someone to attend me along with my family, while I could see so many vacant tables for myself. Four different servers stopped by me, each one of whom I requested for a high chair for my young toddler (18 mo old). It took more than 15 minutes to get me a High Chair so I could sit the toddler somewhere and stop her from going tables after tables and scaring off the dinning guests. Then, another 15 minutes to get menu cards. Then once again, left on hold for unspecified period of time. The one server assigned to the table, never bothered about us who has been happily passing by our table back and forth. I requested her twice but it didn’t earn any heed from her. With a starving hunger in anticipation of someone to take our order for menu selection to serve us, I exploded out of frustration, picked-up my toddler and asked my wife to follow me. We went to Olive Garden in the downtown, which was all the worth of my compromise with my hunger. It was during this time that I called the corporate IHG (previously called "Priority Club") and asked their Customer Support to reduce my stay to one day. Personally, I would never go back to this hotel. For you, don’t fall for the Marinara, you can stay in any hotel and plan spending a day at much nicer beach at Virginia Beach instead. The next day, I went to Holiday Inn Express at Newport News and that was a fabulous experience. I will review that separately for the good care I received there. July 10, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Just OK Breakfast Buffet hours were until 11am ... buffet was taken down between 10:30-10:45 so 11 am closing isnt accurate at all. Breakfast area had a broken A/C unit and it was well over 80 degrees both mornings I ate there. A/C in room was difficult to control due to the program feature that kept shutting off the A/C in the middle of the night. New carpet was needed in my room - was very worn. Housekeeping forgot to service my room for my two night stay. Overall it was just ok ... would have expected more from a Crowne Plaza with such a nice waterfront location. July 10, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Lack of Customer Service As you're aware I recently stayed in your hotel. The room seemed fine initially except for a must odor. Thursday, I briefed the front desk and they were supposed to send someone to check out the situation - never happened!!!! I figured out where the smell was coming from, it was carpet in front of the bathroom door. When anyone would take a shower, water would leak from under the shower door and flood the bathroom and the water would run to the carpet and saturate it and never dry out. Friday, I requested a manager come up so I could show them exactly where the leak was and so they could also smell the odor coming from the room / wet carpet - never happened!!! Friday night, I was informed a manager was not on location. Saturday morning prior to departure i requested a manager and was told she wouldn't be in until @ 1:00 pm at which time I would have check out and on my way home. July 8, 2013

The bed was great as usual and the shower was nice. The rest average. Restaurant not great and TV below standards -- all analog and no digital, so choices and quality were not high. June 29, 2013

It was as good quality as I remember. however, when i made the reservation i asked for a refrigerator and was told that was possible. i called prior to arriving to confirm the refrigerator and was offered a microwave in addition to a refrigerator. when we arrived and i asked the person who took our bags to the room about the room NOT having the refrigerator, he said there are no refrigerators in the hotel. so i was dissappointed and had to juggle ice and a cooler to care for items that i brought with me that needed refrigeration. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice location and view ~ management needs fine tuning We were traveling with our daughter who uses a wheelchair, so we had a rough start when the elevator from the parking garage had a note that is was temporarily closed for cleaning . Oddly, it was still closed the next day....and this was a busy Sat/Sun. Check in went smoothly for us, although others there at same time were told there were no rooms available even though they had confirmation numbers. We requested sheets for the pull out sofa by phone, but when we returned hours later that night, there still were no sheets. the front desk phone went unanswered several times, so I went down to fetch them myself. the pullout mattress was stained pretty badly but at that hour we had little choice. the rest of the room was great. If the management improves the service and other mentioned issues, we would stay here again. June 20, 2013

We were very comfortable. the only down fall is that there was not bath tub. my son loved the view of the marina and walking along the water watching the birds... it is a very pretty place to stay. i would stay here again. Then I found trash from previous occupant jammed behing the hair dryer. The circular mats on which the water glasses sat were stained. My next morning wake-up call never came. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Total experience I was not as happy with my stay at the Crowne Plaza as I could have been. I was assigned rooms on the fourth floor and there was a foul odor in the corridor for most of my stay, the guest who were in the adjoining room were either very loud, or the walls were so thin that I felt I was part of their conversations and the condition of the room was not what I think of when I think Crowne PLaza. The carpeting was stained beyond cleaning and should be replaced and the bathroom sink would not hold water. One of the rooms appeared not to have been cleaned properly and the guests in that room were moved to another floor, separating the group that had come together. I was glad that this was not a problem for me, but someone else may not have been as understanding if their group was separated. I really like the location of the Crowne Plaza and would like to stay there again, but I think renovations are needed before I commit to another stay at this location. June 14, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Great view, front desk with an attitude We had a great view from the room, loved it. But the room smelled like an old smoking room with somewhat of a musty smell. Breakfast was great. Our worst experience was check-in. There were two people there and the gal who was the first one to speak to us, said go see the other guy for check-in.Not sure what she was doing that didn't permit her to check-in people standing in line. There was about 4 of us waiting to check in and this gal seemed she had more important things to do besides check people in. The male check-in person seemed to be having a bad day, computer log in problems and a real bad attitude. When average is best for the worst and worst of the best, this hotel experience was below average. This hotel has the makings to be a great place to stay but it sure didn't show through for our stay, especially for a Crowne Plaza Hotel. May 25, 2013
