Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Overrated Room heating and air conditioning unit made extremely loud squeaking noises at times like a bearing in the fan was going out. Mentioned to staff to no avail. Ordered room service and paid $43 for a cold steak, cold baked potato, no bread, tea with no ice. Bread did not come with the meal but was ordered as a separate item but was never delivered.. Server had to return to kitchen to get correct bill. The whole experience at this hotel on this visit was nothing like advertised. This hotel is old and showing its age. For the most part, the staff was very nice. They just didn't do anything about the problems or my dissatisfaction. February 19, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great staff and customer care! A room sometimes is just a room, but the atmosphere and staff make this place a great place to stay. February 14, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by scents used and bed confort the use of scents in the rooms and lobby bathroom were excessive. we both have allergies and had to prop the door of the room open for 2 hours to reduce the smell. The restroom was so strong it made my eyes water when i walked in. All properties need to reconsider the use of scented cleaners. both beds in the room were very soft or worn out and hard to sleep on. February 11, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by All round great service & comfortable beds! Alan at front desk goes above & beyond to ensure I had the room I requested. Very personable and an asset to the hotel. Very comfortable beds. Woman at breakfast was very pleasant & gave great service as well. January 29, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Don't get the rooms that lead to the outside! If you get an inside room...it is much better. But room where you have to entre from the outside...NOT GOOD. too loud... and the rooms are old. Bathrooms are AWEFUL. WAY TOO SMALL. Only thing smaller is cruise ship bathroom. December 12, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Room, Great Staff My family and I were in Hickory for my sister's wedding and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The rooms had everything we needed and the hotel staff were great. The girls and I had a 7 am hair appointment and breakfast was wonderful. November 25, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by not the best I normally have a great experience at Crowne Plaza but the service execution was poor in this case. The hotel was ok but the following items were very annoying: 1. at check in I was informed there were a couple of large parties in the hotel but noise level would drop by 10:00. At 11:15 the live party music was still going on though I was trying to sleep. 2. I ordered room service for breakfast in the evening before I was to depart. I was informed the restaurant would open at 6am and they could accommodate a delivery at 6:30. Breakfast showed up at 6:55am making me late for other engagements and having to leave the breakfast mostly uneaten. -and the food arrived cold. 3. I was instructed to park in the rear of the hotel for easiest access to the room. When I was loading at 7am I was locked out when I went to my vehicle and didn't have my key card- I had already checked out. The sign posted at the entrance said the door should have been open at 5am. I drove around to the front, and let the front desk know the door was still locked, and then went to get the remainder of my belongings from the hallway in which I had to leave them. Shortly thereafter someone unlocked the door,. November 15, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Conference Stay Attended a conference held here over 2.5 days. Meeting rooms were nicely sized and the ballroom accommodated over 200 people. Other rooms available and worked out nicely. They do have an indoor pool but it is awkwardly located near the front entrance, even before you get to the registration desk. Rooms are comfortable but could have slightly more housecleaning; found items under the bed and one hair in tub. November 8, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't live up to the Crowne Plaza name When I checked in the person at the desk was very friendly and was good at his job. That was the only good interaction that I had. House keeping woke me up the next morning just before 8am. I didn't ask for a wake-up call, and I surly didn't ask for a wake-up knock on my door. She kept knocking until I got up and went to the door. I called the front desk and asked what time check out was. It's noon. When I got dressed and went down to breakfast, the entire hallway smelled like cigarette smoke. All of the rooms near me were non-smoking. Then at breakfast, the waitress asked me three times if I wanted coffee before she actually brought it to me. When I was finished and ready to leave, I sat there long enough for the table cleaner to suggest that I just go pay without my receipt. The woman at the cash register just couldn't grasp the concept that I didn't have a ticket to pay with. When she finally understood what was going on, she said that her credit card machine was broken and that she'd have to charge my room. Of course....this made checking out difficult, because the person at the front desk didn't have the info from the restaurant. Good times. I stay at hotels regularly for business, and I'll happily find a different one next time I'm in town. October 23, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Prepare for 4 hour wait to check in I have stayed at this particular hotel several times. Four years in a row, we have had a conference there and had the same amount of people coming into town checking in around the same time. Most everyone coming into town for the conference gets there late Sunday afternoon. I arrived at the hotel around 5:30pm expecting my hotel room to be ready when the checkin time is 3:00pm. NOPE...they said my room...two queens, when I requested a king...was not ready yet. They asked for my cell and they would call me when it was ready. They offered free appatizers and soda at the bar...gee thanks. So after the $30 bar tab for 2 people and 2 drinks later...we decided to just go to our social for our conference. No change of clothes, nothing. Just a mess from driving for 5 hours. 8:30pm and still nothing. I go ask the front desk again about my room and its still not ready. I offered to help clean it myself...just give me a room. Back to the social I go. Still nothing. 9:30, still no phone call, 9:50 still nothing. Im ready for bed and they do not have a room for me. This is beyond ridiculous and inexcusable customer service. I go ask the front desk if the room is ready, she says oh yes just need a drivers license and credit card. WHAT??? I ask why didnt you call when the room was ready? I am ready for bed, its almost 10 at night, we are pushing 5 hours I have been waiting for this room. She said "oh its only been ready for 10 minutes" And you didnt call 10 minutes ago because??? She had no answer. After getting to my room it had a funny oder of Axe body spray, smelled like a stip club. I let it go, went to bed. Woke up the next morning and couldnt breathe because the room smelled so bad of smoke, they were trying to hide the smell with body spray????? How pathetic. There only excuse for why it took so long is that they had a wedding on Saturday the day before the conference came in. I find that hard to comprehend when you are a major chain hotel and you know you have a wedding one day, and a confernce starting the next day, what do you do...YOU PLAN AHEAD>>>>> October 23, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good Experience with only Minor Problems Arrived around 6PM on the day of check-in and was told by the desk that the room was not ready, but should be within approximately 1 hour. We left to go get supper and came back at 7:30PM, to which the front desk told us the room was still not ready, and they could not give us an estimate as to when we might be able to get in. We finally was able to check-in at 8:45. The problem was that the hotel unexpectedly had a large group of people that had checked out, and each housekeeping maid had 20 rooms to clean by their selves. Most had been working 12-13 hours that day. I understand things happen, and that is ok, but the only compensation the hotel offered was "free softdrinks". I felt that the hotel could have done a little more for the customers that had to wait several hours for a room. Other than that, good service as always. October 22, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hickory NC Executive Suits Service was great, beds were wonderful. Room walls were too thin and noisy. However it was a great experience. October 19, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Room and Convenient Location The room was excellent. Very clean and neat. Great TV, mini frig and microwave. Loved the bedding and the room layout. Also the bathroom was very nice. Loved that it had a hairdryer so that I didn't have to bring mine but a double sink would have been nicer since it was a double room. I was only there for an overnight visit for a close friend's 50th surprise party but it was very convenient to just walk back to the hotel afterwards. No continental breakfast which was disappointing for this nice of a hotel . Beautiful atmostsphere and furnishings in the lobby. October 18, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great service My husband & I were on a weekend drive & ended up in Hickory. We are somewhat familar with the area. Our waitress at a local restaurant recommended this hotel. The young lady at the front desk was very friendly & gave us the best service available. We only stayed overnight but we did enjoy the pool and our room. If we are in Hickory again, we will stay at this hotel. October 17, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Experience Asked for a room "by the pool". We were put a floor literally above the pool, the room had a large window on the wall facing the pool which allowed us to hear, quite readily, anyone who visited the pool. If we wanted to swim in the pool however we had to walk all the way down the hall to the elevator, down one flight and then traverse the lobby, past the dining room and chek-in to get there! Wi-Fi signal wasn't strong enough to reach our room so they brought us a hot spot. TV was advertised as "having the most channels in Hickory" but only a few were working. They di offer us another room however but were out of rooms with two double beds which we needed. October 12, 2012
