Best service I've ever experienced

09 April 2015

The concierges were fantastic, extremely friendly and helpful. They gave me plenty of suggestions and helped me arrange my whole trip to Mt. Huangshan, which made my solo trip a lot easier and less stressful! All the staff at the hotel were very pleasant, even the cleaning lady and waitress would make kind conversation with me. Check in/out was quick. I would say many (if not most) of the staff do not speak English (or very basic), but there is always at least one person at each station (reception, concierge etc) who speaks good English to help. The friendliness of the staff made my stay very enjoyable.

This hotel is very luxurious, and the facilities are nice and new. My superior room was large, clean, comfortable and very quiet. It possibly had the most comfortable bed/bedding I've ever slept on! Great after a long, tiring day of hiking the mountain. However I found the room was very hot, hovering around maybe 28 degrees even with the AC. The gym was good, not too big but fairly spacious in a nice spot above the pool facing the river.

Food was okay. I ate at the Riverside restaurant twice. A la carte, a tiny pizza was expensive, but the evening buffet was a reasonable price with adequate selection, much of it was Chinese food. It was difficult to get a simple glass of water at the buffet. The lobby lounge was nice to relax in with a complimentary drink. I didn't like how there were smokers, although there were non-smoking tables.

Location is quite far from all the attractions, although close enough to the airport (20min). Mt. Huangshan was about 45min away by taxi, and if you want to take a bus I think you still need to take a taxi to the bus stop. Not the most convenient for tourists, as transportation can therefore become more complicated/expensive. But worth it if you want a comfortable/luxurious hotel to rest after Mt. Huangshan.
