Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by bad serivce it was the most horrible staying in crowne plaza istanbul, old city. they didnt treat us as platinum members and they didnt give us any access to use the business lounge and the internet facility and they never upgrade us. we felt like we are sitting in a 1 star hotel, and while we were checking in, they said we dont have any booking and when we showed them our confirmation through www.IHG.com they kept us waiting for 5 hours. untill 5 pm we checked in. and when we want to use the gym, they said we have to pay extra fees, and when we told the duty manager we are platinum members he said "so what we dont follow members and the crowne plaza in istanbul has special law" so it was very bad staying. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great hotel with great staff After travelling for 20 hours from Australia we received a warm welcome from the staff which set the tone for our stay. We were quickly given our room which had been up graded to a suite that was warm, comfotable and large. The staff throughout our stay were very helpful and with my wife needing to eat gluten free they did all they could to accomodate her. The staff (a young lady)managed to find some gluten free bread and were keen to assist but some cereal would have been good. The club room is good but the breakfast there did not match the standards of other club room that we have stayed at within the Crown chain particularly those in Asia. It is a lovely hotel situated in a great part of the town in walking distance to many of Istanbul's attraction. Well done to the staff for being very friendly and helpful during our stay we would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Istanbul. January 11, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Property and Location The Crowne Plaza - Old City is an exceptional hotel. The hotel is in an old building and this gives the hotel character. The staff is outstanding. Every need was met and anticipated. The hotel is in an outstanding location. Near to several historical sites and the Grand Bizarre. The only con is that you cannot bring in outside food and drinks. So, if you want to pick up some local food on the corner, you will be stopped at the door. Definitely recommend this property. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Memorable Experience Memorable stay. All staff members very knowledgeable and always ready to assist. Good central location, close to public transport and major tourist sites, and nearby affordable restaurants. Appreciate recognition for IHG Club members with free breakfast, tea and wi-fi for multiple devices. These privileges should be made known to members - we only found this out on checking in - notwithstanding pleasantly surprise. Hotel should be more aware of tour operators they recommend. We took a package that included a tour of the Spice Bazaar on the advice of concierge, only to be told by our guide that the bazaar was closed. We were then taken to an alternative spice shop that belonged to the same company of the tour group - Mevlana. Noise from adjacent road disturbs sleep. December 29, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very good stay in Istanbul Beautiful hotel, very good location to reach Gran Bazaar and some of the most visited mosques of the city. Being ad IHG Reward Club member we were given free Internet and an upgraded room, which we appreciated very much. Nice the SPA and the Club Lounge for breakfast in the morning. I would only recommend the hotel to make sure the preauthorized credit blocked upon check-in on the guest credit card is unblocked upon the guest's check-out. I specifically asked for this to be done but it did not work out. November 10, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent customer service Our booking was for a four night stay and we enjoyed being in the Crowne Plaza from the moment we arrived. Well trained porters, receptionist and concierge did everything they could to make our welcome and first impressions memorable. The corner room with dual aspect windows was spacious and beautifully clean. The bathroom was small but well laid out. Two free bottles of water every day and free internet access in the business centre. There was a huge selection to choose from at breakfast, including mini Turkish Delight. When we unexpectedly had to return home on the third day, the hotel staff were fantastic. They sourced flight times and costs and checkout was done quickly with the minimum of fuss. We received the best service at all times and cannot praise them highly enough. November 6, 2013

Very unusual and specific kind of building for modern hotel. Location is also very good, as the hotel is situated in walking distance from Sultanahmet zone. I have 2 kids and I had every time I go out or come in to lift the strollers with the kids with rare help from the staff. There are no ramps for strollers. In the 21st century, this hotel is charging money for the WI-FI !!!! The housekeeping is not good. October 27, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by wonderful location My family and I stayed in the hotel for 5 days at the end of September . The 3 rooms we had were excellent, with nice decor and amenities. The staff were very helpful and friendly , the food very good and the hotel decor very pleasing. The hotel was within walking distance of the Great Bazaar, Haga Sofia , and Blue mosques and the Topkapi Palace , as well as the Basilica Cistern. For those who dont want to walk the tram is right outside the front door. Great all round!!. Definite repeat October 7, 2013

The location is great since it is close to the main attractions without being in the middle of all the movement, a tram station is 1 block from the hotel. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms are super comfortable and the staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good too. September 25, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Hotel We spent 5 great days at this hotel. The room was wonderful, clean and comfortable. It was close to the sight seeing areas, and a quick walk to theGrand Bazzar. Club room was nice, but could have had more of a selection and needs equpment to heat hot food and cool dairy (Milk and yogart). All of the staff we found spoke english, but not well. Overall the hotel was great and we would stay there again. September 22, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Crown Plaza Istanbol I was quite happy to book the hotel online at least 4 months before my departure. I paid in advance on line at the time of booking. The conditions for booking were " Full advance payment" at the time of booking. A night before my departure, I checked with the customer services officer and inquired about any other payments as I did not want to stand on desk for checkout in the morning. I was reassured that as I have made full payment in advance so there should be no worries. It was surprise for me when on the day of departure from hotel at 6am, while my family was sitting in taxi waiting for me, I was informed by desk manager that I need to clear all the dues as my payment was declined by the bank. He was unable to answer why hotel has not informed me earlier as full advance payment was mandatory and conditional and further during my eight days stays what stopped then to tell me that my card payment was declined. The Desk Manager was having no explanation to it but then said it was declined last night. He was not able to answer why transaction was delayed till last day. It is worth to note that during my eight days stay in the hotel I was never informed about it and of course it was the most disturbing thing for me which really stressed me. The Manager prepared two separate bills for two rooms wasting another 15 - 20 minutes and asked me to pay. I was short of time as my flight was at 8am so without looking to the bill I just paid the bills by using the same card without any problem which I used online at the time of hotel booking and left the hotel. On arrival in UK, I noted that as I paid the room charges in Istanbul so my Bank has charged me extra 50 pounds handling fee for two foreign transactions which I was not supposed to be paying if the Hotel Management has charged my card straight away at time of booking, as I booked the hotel in UK and made payment in pounds. Where as in Istanbul I was forced to pay the bill in TL. There were few more mishaps in the hotel which I brought to the knowledge of customer services officer who was brilliant and I do not want to disclose now as she very humbly and politely apologized. My advise for visitors is to make sure that payment from your card has been taken while you are in UK otherwise be prepare to pay extra charges to your bank. September 4, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good hotel We recently stayed at Crowne Plaza- old city on our first trip to Turkey/Istanbul. Overall, we liked the hotel - the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, TV worked fine and offered channels in multiple languages. The hotel was conveniently located to Sultanhmet, which is about 5 minutes by tram or about 15 minutes brisk walking. Be prepared for a lot of street sellers around the hotel which will be there as early as 8 am and as late as 1:30 am in the morning to sell you knock off shirts, bags, perfumes, sweaters, etc - but you see this in many places around old city. Be aware that the hotel does not allow to bring in food from outside - one night we almost got turned around by hotel security for having with us two sandwiches we purchased nearby. The hotel offers complimentary water bottles, chocolates, and Turkish delights in the room daily,which was nice. Complimentary breakfast for Club Rewards members was nothing to write home about, scrambled eggs were particularly bad. Staff was friendly, Free wireless Internet that is available for club members in the room was a great plus. I recommend this hotel. September 1, 2013

The biggest let down was the hospitality and the customer service (or lack of) received from the hotel staff. The hotel reception were rude and abrupt, would not smile and were not hospitable at all. The security at the front were very intimidating, even though they knew we were hotel guests and I also had an encounter with housekeeping, who spoke English well, but felt he had the need to mumble some words in Turkish as he was leaving once he had delivered an iron to me. I don't think it is the hotel that trains it's staff to behave this way, I have stayed in many IHG hotels and all have been very good. I think that the staff employed at Crowne Plaza Istanbul are seriously lacking hospitality skills. I have booked a weekend stay at an IHG hotel in Leicester this weekend and will continue to stay in IHG hotels. However, I will not be staying at Crowne Plaza when I return to Istanbul. I love this hotel and love their service. at the moment I arrived with my big bag, the bell boy straight away helped me to carry it to the reception desk. And all front desk staff are very nice. my room was good and bed is very comfortable looking out the main road. Breakfast was fine, since I always had my breakfast in the club lounge. and this property is nearby tram station, around 5 minutes walk. August 21, 2013

I found the hotel to be a great hotel for the price big enough room and the staff were very helpful I thought. Thank you to all the accommodating Front Office people. The location is great, only two short tram stops to the City Center where you can see all important destinations. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good location in the Old City and great spa facilities This was our first trip to Istanbul and we picked this hotel because it was centrally located in the Old City -- not near all the tourist areas, but close enough by tram and far enough that it was away from the crowds. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and our room. I'd recommend have a detailed map or instructions with you as our taxi driver really struggled to find it (so much that he took us to the unopened CP near the stadium up north). There was a gentleman from the hotel who would arrange taxis to make sure you got to where you were going and at a fair price -- this was really appreciated as most of our troubles involved taxis and public transportation in Istanbul. Additionally, the pool and spa facilities were very nice -- specifically, the steam room, sauna, and Turkish bath were all nice treats after a long day of walking and sweating. Just remember to bring a pool cap for swimming or you'll need to buy one at the hotel. The housekeeping staff were also very friendly and did a great job of cleaning our rooms when we requested it (not always every day). And lastly, this hotel is located near a mosque (surprise, surprise). We weren't bothered by the 4:30am call to prayer, you might be and it's something to consider. Negatives that stuck out in our minds: 1. The front desk/check-in staff were somewhat cold. Hard to explain, but they just weren't overall friendly. Maybe because of all the tourists they deal with? We didn't have any issues, just observed it as such. 2. This is a just a general observation, but we wrote out and stamped about 15 postcards to send to friends and family. One of the hotel staff saw them and said that he would take them and drop them in a postbox. 1.5 months later and none of the postcards have arrived. Was it because we commented on the on-going protests that occurred while we were there and our postcards were read and censored or did he never send them? We'll never know........ August 2, 2013
