Great Staff - Property could use some work

I spent several days at this Crowne Plaza in downtown Kansas City. Across the board the hotel and restaurant staff was great. However, there were some moments in the restaurant that were not wonderful. Seems like it's understaffed; hostess is often absent, wait times, etc. One young guy working the breakfast shift was nice but everything went wrong: cold coffee in carafe, no spoons on table, late food order, etc. other times everything was good. Food for lunch and dinner was actually quite nice.

The hotel itself is hit and miss. The lobby bar and other common areas were nice, but the rooms (based on my colleagues' experiences and mine) were not great: sloppy bathroom tile caulk and grouting, some really poor wall and paint repairs, etc. Not the end of the world but not pleasant. Also, the AC?heating system is so loud I could hardly sleep. I couldn't turn the system off (there was an over-ride on this I think so even though I turned off the system at the thermostat the system still cycled on and off all night).

Again, great staff all around but the building needs some attention.

convience to downtown conference area

The downtown area of Kansas City is under undergoing lots of new construction. It has lots of beautiful architecture around the area and the Crown Plaza is close to all of it. If you walk a couple of miles a day, you can easily go to the Union Station, the headquarters for Hallmark and Sprint center. Lots of good restaurants in the area as well. Kansas City is a very friendly and seems to be people orientated with most everyone I met during my walks,

Arrived at hotel at 5PM - suite not ready. Had to wait 45 minutes -no one at the front desk acted with any sense of urgency. Needed to get ready for engagement at 7PM -
Finally got to the room - and it was on the other side of the elevators ....this made the room so noisy- it was like being under the L in Chicago. Even in a suite with the door closed for the bedroom it was impossible to sleep. And to make matters even worse the room was filthy!!! There was garbage in the closet.... Ice Cream containers and assorted trash ....and a weird brown fluid sprayed on the wall in the bedroom. And to top it off - my priority club number is wrong - so I didn't even get points for the experience or expense.
Needless to say....I won't be back !
