Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by LALA25 A Return Visit
We have stayed in Crowne Plaza The City on several occasions and have always had a great experience and have come to expect this on each visit. Regarding location, this time has been our best visit because Blackfriars Tube/Train Station has eventually been opened: it is so convenient and provides a gateway to so many places near and further away.
Back to the hotel...........We stayed in a deluxe room. The bedding was very comfortable and there were extra pillows and a blanket should these be required (and they were). Scuff marks on the skirting board in the bathroom should have been attended to, but
we appreciated the super shower, delightful complimentary body lotions and toiletries. A previous guest must have left hot straightening irons on the dressing table as there were four long scorch marks on the surface., not a good look. Breakfast was identical to past visits.....good selection, but scrambled eggs every day is very boring! A favourite of ours is a Fruits of the Forest compote which is delicious with yoghurt, but the bowl was empty each morning and the staff told us every day that "It was finished." We know these are minor complaints, but our expectations of the hotel are high. We did not have dinner in the hotel as we were out and about until late in the evening, but we did eat in the pub across from the hotel one evening and would recommend the food.
Finally, we look forward to returning to the hotel on our next visit to London.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by LMbro Good comfort and great breakfast
We had a very quiet room with two queen beds. Comfortable beds but a bit too small for four persons.
The area (Blackfriars) are quiet which I liked but it requires a taxi/bus/tube to get to Picadilly, Covent Garden etc.
The teenagers loved the Breakfast.
We found the Concierge very helpful.

although central and right next to Blackfriars station, the hotel was surprisingly quiet, very modern and very comfortable - had a great night's sleep, room was lovely, breakfast was superb and we thoroughly enjoyed it

The Crown Plaza London - The City is a charming hotel. You get a relaxed feel from the staff as soon as you enter the property, and my room was spacious and comfortable. I do look forward to returning soon.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by cjarnoux Excellent hotel on the way up!
This has the feel of a very good hotel which is getting better on each visit I have. Facilities and service have improved greatly over the past nine months or so. The executive lounge, although a good facility, could benefit from upgrading to match the standard of the other facilities. The new bar Voltaire is stunning!
Being so well placed for other amenities and directly across the road from Blackfriars station makes it an extremely convenient place to stay in London.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by sophiecat Quiet, clean, comfortable, great quality and value
Stayed here for 2 nights over the weekend. From beginning to end the experience was most enjoyable. A family weekend which I wanted to go well and the Crowne Plaza did not disappoint. I spoke in advance with the hotel to request quiet rooms which they sorted out no problems. And everything else went without a hitch - which led to a relaxing and enjoyable break. Very much a home from home. Some brief thoughts from my stay:
Excellent rooms - clean, well appointed with powerful showers & comfy bed. Very quiet room facing the inner courtyard, with some decent natural light. Overall a little warm but after reading the reviews beforehand, I was well prepared and a blast of the air conditioning beforehand helped no problems.
Breakfast for us was in the executive lounge - plentiful, tasty, top quality. Drinks hot and tasty. A nice place to relax, with some nice views to watch London and Blackfriars.
Staff - excellent and helpful. We managed to make a bit of a mess up with the cards, which they helped me out with minimal fuss. Polite, professional and all with a smile.
Facilities - we used the gym and it was well appointed. As much as you should expect from a high quality hotel.
Location - well you know that before you go there and it didn't disappoint! - excellent tube links and central for many of London's attractions.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Flo92 Fabulous breakfast
Arrived at reception, very fast and efficient check-in. The room was immaculate, fresh and tastefully furnished. Brilliant nights sleep, felt really refreshed in the morning.
Just one small gripe, very stingy with the tiny milk cartons for the in-room hot drinks tray. I always have to ask for more. This stay, reception promised to have someone bring some to my room, they never arrived...so no early morning coffee, shame...

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by EyeDoc Pleasant stay but strange 'musak' in Chinese Cricket Club
we stayed at Crowne Plaza as we were @ a dinner nearby.
friendly staff @ check in,
security of lifts to guest floors requiring a guest room key to work
Clean comfortable room with excellent quality bathroom accessories and biscuits for coffee
Negatives were minor
Internet charged for & lack of clear explanation at check in that although it appeared I would be charged £10 this was going to be refunded on check out as a priority club member - I was told it would be free but not that I would have to tick a charge fee on log in
Rather irritating "Muzak" over breakfast

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Comfortable and convenient.
I actually enjoyed myself greatly. At most, what I can say as a bit of disappointment is that the complementary beverages were inconsistently provided. My friends and colleagues however had more to say from dirty rooms to not getting a welcome fruit tray. I must say I did not experience that at all and except for what. Already mentioned above, everything was really really fantastic. The front desk was very helpful. The concierge was responsive and the laundry was prompt and efficient. I really loved it. Thank you to everyone!

Spent a week at the hotel, and enjoyed the entire stay. Our room on the sixth floor was very comfortable, the breakfast, both downstairs and in the Club Lounge were great. We dined in the Cricket Club for Chinese food, which was excellent.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely go back when next in London.

Booked at a special price and worth every penny. Very comfortable nights sleep in a pleasant room. Drove into London on a Saturday afternoon, found the hotel really easily and parked free of charge right outside. Fantastic location for Tate Modern, Millenium Bridge and St Pauls. Plenty of places to have an evening meal in the city.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Globetrkker39 3rd Stay at Crowne Plaza London The City
My third visit to this hotel on the whole did not disappoint.
Unfortunately the heat of our inside room for the first two nights resulted in two sleepless nights. This resulted in having to sleep in in the mornings and we lost valuable sightseeing time on our short trip. This was disappointing. We were moved to an outside room for the third night and had a night's sleep.
The surfaces and facilities in the rooms need a quick dust daily - this would not be a challenge.
In terms of facilities, atmosphere and location, this hotel is the perfect base for a visit to London for business or pleasure.
In terms of service I have to give this hotel a ten out of ten. All staff encountered were extremely polite and courteous - it was wonderful! I look forward to returning to this hotel again soon provided I am assigned an outside room. A special mention to Anjana and Zsolt for their professionalism and courteousness.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by MKB0 What a difference a week makes
After an excellent stay the week before, what a contrast, this was.
Gone was the hand-written welcome letter, gone was the chocolates, and, initially at least, gone was the Platinum Ambassador access to the Club Lounge, despite having been upgraded to a Club room. If the lady on the lounge desk is to be believed, there is insufficient capacity for everyone in a Club room to be granted lounge access, which makes no sense. What if all the Club rooms are taken by guests who have paid for them rather than upgraded? How does that work?
Noisy heating necessitated a room change, plus several other niggles.
Such a shame, because the stay just one week before was bliss.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Exceeding my expectations
I have just returned from spending the weekend at this super hotel. The hotel is conveniently located across the road from a train station, close to St Paul's Cathederal and the City of London.
I stayed on a very cheap rate, having booked a standard room. On checking in, the delightful and very friendly Italian receptionist lady, acknowledged my Priority Club membership and upgraded my room to a large room with two double beds. I was also offered either free wifi or movies and I selected the movie option. The room itself was spotlessly clean and well appointed. The beds were very comfortable. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. We had room service one evening and although I thought it was expensive, it was a good meal and was brought promptly to the room.
Did the hotel and staff exceed my expections? Absolutely.
Would I stay here again? Absolutely!

I booked this hotel back in October 2012.. for a visit in Feb 2013. I managed to get an early saver rate so that I could take my mother to london for her 70th birthday. The hotel itself was immacualte and very well presented. We arrived early and they managed to check us in at 10:45am.. very impressive!. Our room was spacious and fashionable. So far a perfect hotel. Unfortunatley though the bar in the hotel was closed for a refurb, something that we were not informed of prior to arrival... also the whole hotel had an acrid smell of varnish and glue because of the referb. This meant that the foyer was the only place to get a drink and this was woefully understaffed and filled with the smell of glue and varnish. After returning to the hotel from a show we decided to try and get a drink in the stinky foyer..We left after 30 minues of trying to get a drink! Whilst this didnt spoil our stay it dampened it a touch. It would have been nice to get a night cap after the show we had been to see.. I feel that we should have been told about the closure of the bar and disruption.

i recently stayed in this lovely hotel. staff were very very helpful and were friendly. Lots of smelly stuff for the bathroom and lovely breakfast and plenty of it. Very conveniently located opposite the tube (District and Circle line) and with train links direct to Gatwick. Lovely to stroll along the embankment to Big Ben and London Eye.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by OutofTownie Perfect position, and good quality hotel
The Crowne Plaza is perfectly placed, especially with the new Blackfriars Station opened.
Rooms were spacious, clean and quiet.
Plenty of choice for restaurants, both in the hotel and nearby.
Only problem was the smell of paint, as they're renovating parts of the building.
Overall, can recommend.

We were lucky enough to have secured a fantastic deal for our long weekend in London, and we were delighted with the hotel and the friendly check-in staff, Anjana, made us feel instantly welcome and valued. We even got a free upgrade to a deluxe room and also booked in for a breakfast on the Sunday at a special rate of £10 each. The hotel staff were all efficient and helpful, and the hotel's comfort, quality and amenities were above what we expected. The location of this hotel is also ideal for exploring, being directly opposite Blackfriars station (although we walked most places during the day). Great pub opposite too, definitely worth a visit :)
We'd definitely come to stay again, had a wonderful weekend, thanks!
