Location is the Primary Reason to Stay here

02 April 2015

In our opinion, easy access to the Gloucester Road tube station is the primary reason to stay at this hotel. The other reason to choose this hotel is if you are an IHG Rewards Club member and wish to accrue or use points.

The property is being redecorated - we prefer the old interior design over the new. Thus, some rooms are quite noisy! Overall we would recommend, inside/garden side rooms since otherwise you are overlooking a busy street.

The beds are comfortable - we heard others mention their beds were big but since we had a double bedded room, our beds were quite ordinary. The room was clean enough and the amenities fine though we had some trouble with the tea kettle as the outlets are not well placed and we found our teabags not replaced each day.

The rooms are poorly configured - at least our room. There is very poor lighting (except in bed reading), the light in the bathroom is over the toilet not the mirror; the magnifying mirror is placed so as to be totally unusable; the shower pressure is very weak and temperatures fluctuate so much that you are either cold or nearly burned; the outlets are not set up for business or personal needs.

The staff is pleasant, but the front desk staff were never able to provide even basic information and the concierge was not always present as we saw him handle luggage and all sorts of unrelated tasks. We did not feel that we received any special recognition for being IHG Rewards Club members apart from being asked whether or not we wanted a free drink or bonus points.(we suppose this is a pro, but is it really?) We were never told about the property's offerings and were not offered access to the Club lounge.

If you are in any way physically challenged be sure to ask for a room outfitted for people with disabilities since the bathtub is very difficult to get in and out of - the one grab bar is difficult to reach getting in and will twist your arm/back if you try to use it to get out.

We had mentioned in our booking that it was a birthday getaway, but nothing at all was done. A bit disappointing.

good with a few disappointments

02 April 2015

The room was good, the rate was good and the location is good.
I was disappointed in that the TV in the room offered a very small set of channels. It was a real annoyance that my room card key quite working twice each day and I had to run up and down stairs to get replacements,

One of the best London hotels

31 March 2015

Once again I enjoyed my stay at the Crown Plaza in Kensington, which is one of the brand's best hotels I've ever had the pleasure staying in.
The hotel is excellently located in London's Royal borough of Kensington and Chelsea, close to locations like the Albert Hall, the Science Museum and the Natural History museum. It is well appointed and staff extend always a warm welcome. Gloucester Road tube station is just across the road.
This time I had the pleasure of staying in an amazing balcony suite, in my view the best room in this hotel. The large balcony with seating provides nice views over London.
Food and drink in this hotel are well above the average standard and the Umami fusion restaurant is a great asset; unlike most other hotel restaurants, it's much frequented by people not staying in the hotel but who simply enjoy it's great food. That is a clear endorsement of its qualities.
I look forward to my next stay at the Crown Plaza.
