Much improved over the year BUT....

The renos seem to be done, the staff were largely great, the room was good too. There is some aircraft noise, but being so close I do expect that... The one thing I don't get however is the new lobby area restaurants. This last Sunday it's as if they could not cope at all, they were turning people away, dirty tables abounded. But what really made me not want to eat in the sushi bar or wait, is that the lobby was full of screaming kids from a bus tour or other group screaming, screaming kids running around. There is no wall blocking the view or the sound, from a reasonable but not cheap sushi bar, into the lobby. Why does anyone want to watch the lobby traffic, hear that awful noise when paying higher prices? A railway station would be more serene. A glass seperator wall or waterfall even would help immensely! Sure the hotel cannot do that much about screaming running kids, although they could have asked the group occupying all the seats there to control them, but they have to expect noise there and they left it wide open.
The next evening I had checked out but had time to kill and ate in said sushi bar. The service is really, really slow and the man and younger woman making the food spent lots of time playing and laughing and joking, but getting the food out was brutal. The waitress apologized to everyone for waiting. It wasn't even half full. The food was not bad, but the openess to the lobby just Makes this a fail. Great for a coffee shop, not a sushi stop. Two rolls, a diet coke and a couple of individual pieces is $56. The service should be far better at this price level.
I had stopped by the coffee shop two days before, it was also slow, the young woman who manned the sation alone spent near 10 mins getting a coffee for someone who worked at a neighbouring hotel, giving him a discount on his beverage, he paid in a huge mound of small coins and then they chatted for a few mins. Three people in line watching it all and had to wait.
So maybe things will change a bit, but I am not sure who planned this one, it doesn't work in my opinion and the staff probs are not in the rooming side, but in F&B.

Horrible Management

Location is excellent right next to LAX. Shuttle service is not on a fixed schedule which is a bit frustrating - the front desk just said to be downstairs 30 minutes before you wanted to be at the airport. Unfortunately, that left a huge crowd trying to get on a morning rush shuttle.

Our room was right next to a room that just had a group of kids from a sports team with no adult supervision. They were extremely loud and obnoxious. We called security 4 times to have them come and ask them to be quiet, but security never showed. It was extremely disappointing and ruined any chance to sleep.

As a result we would not stay there again given the multiple options next to LAX.

My wife and I had stayed here before for flights from Lax and we were treated very well. Although I am Platinum and expected similar service I was very surprised to see my name framed on the check in counter as "Guest of the Day". As a result we were upgraded to the Presidential Suite. Wow, it was very nice...a first for us. Of course it came with Executive Lounge access (drinks and breakfast). All the staff were great, especially the front desk and in the lounge. We could not get to the bottom of our wine glass. All this special treatment and we booked the room on an annual IHG credit card certificate.
