Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lovely stay and excellent staff We had a 2 day stay that we extended out to 3. Lovely 2 bedroom villa. Great ammenities and staff. The introdcution of the video game and movie rooms from our last visit was great our little boy loved playing them and also enjoyed the balls and games left outside throughout the day. We always stay at the Crowne Plaza due to the wonderful rooms and great prices. January 29, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great for a group but the service is not great. We spent three nights here over school holidays in three two bedroom villas with 2 other families. The villas are not very aesthetically pleasing at first glance but they are quite nice inside. Ours was on the first floor over looking a man made lake and the balcony was quite big. There were only two fairly uncomfortable chairs on it though. The villa is well equipped with what you'd expect but there is no dishwasher which was a bit if a pain as we cooked our own breakfast each morning and had a BBQ one night. The beds were very comfortable and the aircon worked very well which was a blessing as it was 45 degrees on our first night. The villa was clean but there were a lot of dirty marks on the walls which could have been remedied with a quick rub with a chux cleaning cube. The room service menu was pretty good and not too expensive and so the kids had that a couple of times. There is supposed to be a daily housekeeping service and even though we were out all day on Saturday, they chose 5pm when we'd come back for a nap to call. On Sunday morning they chose 8.55am as an ideal time to come and clean! I asked them to come back at noon when we would be out but again they came at 5pm so we basically had no cleaning done bar taking away rubbish and clean towels. I complained to the front desk but I felt my concerns were taken very lightly. The spa was great and three of us had lovely massages but they lost the booking for my husbands so he had to go without. We got an apology but nothing more. On check out we paid our bill but were not asked whether we had enjoyed our stay. I know these might seem fairly trivial complaints to some people but I expect better than this from a 4 and a half star resort. The kids enjoyed the golf course and the huge pool and they said that the food at grapevine was nice. I would stay there again if we required room for a group but wouldn't bother as a couple or without children. January 26, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lovely in all aspects What can I say. It was a great place to stay. Hopefully next time when I stay it won't be the hottest day 45C, so I can have a bit more room in the great pool. Only complaint was that I wasn't comfortable with the idea of the bed which only had the bottom sheet, no top sheet. I had to ask for a top sheet to sleep as I couldn't sleep with just the doona on me if I don't know it hasn't been changed after every guest. They were more than happy to give me a top sheet. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Spacious room, enjoyable stay We enjoyed a short stay in a 2 bedroom villa with family from abroad. Great property, close to vineyards with excellent amenities. Would highly recommend. January 20, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Apartment, Kitchen missing dishwasher and oven We stayed in a 2x 3 bedroom apartment overlooking the 10th hole. The apartments are excellent qualty, spacious and still quite modern. The kitchen was very large, however it did not contain and oven or dishwasher which made in room catering difficult had we not brought a bbq along. We requested a stairguard and port a cot however when we arrived they were not available, thankfully we brought our own port-a-cot as a back up. One room was not available until 2 hours after checkin. The golf course is great and the pool excellent for a young children. January 20, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Facilities A lot of facilities (Gym, table Tennis) to keep one occupied and offer interesting ways of playing Chess. The Bar has a great atmosphere but should have more screens showing live sports. January 17, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome experience Everything was really good. but our Villa's air-con wasn't working properly. January 15, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Some basics missed While the Crowne Plaza is overall a well presented property, there are a few things which detract. On arrival, the lack of undercover parking within easy access distance of elevators etc is disappointing; especially on hot summer days, when lugging gear from the carparks and then having to go out to a hot vehicle is a shame. On our first afternoon, we visited the poolside bar/bistro area for lunch. Before ordering, staff were asked about approximate delay time, as we had a wedding rehearsal to attend at Hunter Valley Gardens. We were told 15 minutes. The wait time extended to around 35 minutes and, when queried, there was no feedback and scant apology. Late that night, we booked for the last sitting at dinner in the restaurant and found it difficult to gain attention from the wait staff on a number of occasions. At the end of the meal, my wife ordered a dessert and I ordered a Port to sip while she ate dessert. Her dessert was served and eaten and we eventually managed to chase up the Port which was delayed, apparently, because the 'bar is separate from the restaurant.' Once again, when comment was made, the staff appeared defensive. The following morning, we were woken at 7am by the sound of a lawn mower directly outside the entire wing of King Rooms at the NE part of the main complex. It was puzzling why the mower guy couldn't have started his shift in a part of the grounds a little further away from potentially sleeping guests. At breakfast, an omelet was ordered and we were provided with a number so that the omelet could be delivered to the table. Once again, wait staff had to be requested to follow up on collecting the omelet from the servery where it had been sitting for some time ready for delivery. These are not huge issues but are basics within customer service. It seemed that there was some difficulty in gaining a commitment from all staff to what the actual purpose of their role is in a situation like this. January 15, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lovely spot for that quick break from the real world What a fantastic spot for a quick break when you don't feel like battling with city traffic. Excellent customer service, beautiful swimming pool and golf course and relaxing Day Spa to ease away reality. We did not leave the complex -food, drink and entertainment on tap! Thoroughly recommend Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley :) January 15, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Lovely resort with nice staff We stayed between Christmas & New Year holidays 2012 and enjoyed our stay, but found everything in the resort very, very expensive, although the golf was very reasonable. We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa, which was very nice, but disappointed there was not a dishwasher or washing machine & dryer in the villas. There is a cupboard allocated, but was empty. There was however a guest laundry, but once again you had to pay. I would expect this to be free to guests being a 4+ star rating resort and for what we paid for a 2 night stay. We were also disappointed that the villa had not been cleaned properly. All the cupboard handles & surfaces were greasy, kitchen floor sticky & long black hair on the ensuite bathroom floor, not belonging to us. That being said, the staff were brilliant and ever so helpful. The business centre was fantastic and the resort, golf course and gardens were lovely. January 14, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Overall bad experience! Couldn't check in for 2 hrs after check in time as room had a stain being cleaned, the stain could not be removed and looked like blood! A credit was provided for the inconvenience which was satisfactory until the following occurred....... We ordered room service which never arrived, after calling to check where it was at 10pm they finally sent cold pizza. The second night we decided to go to the Asian restaurant in the hotel guide, only to find it had been closed for 6 months! We then went to the bistro only to wait another 2 hours for what was a simple dinner of fish to cook. Overall not a good experience for a hotel I was really looking forward to staying at so was very disappointed. January 14, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Great family venue close to Newcastle I took my family away for a short break after Xmas and was happy to only have to travel 1 hour to a great venue. I was disappointed in the inclusions in the villas however. I wished to allow my adult children some free time from their kids and found the cooking facilities in villas did not meet the needs of my grandchildren. It was also difficult with no dishwasher not to mention unhygienic for future guests. Other than that loved the venue and staff were helpful. Pool was fun. Catering needs to come up a notch to match rating of hotel however. January 13, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by good size villa's, very comfortable beds & excellent food Villas are very generous in size with the most comfortable beds, food at Redsalt restaurant was excellent especially the desserts. Great place for a girly get away or family holiday but would love another pool just for adults (very busy is school holidays) and a couple of extra walking machines in the gym. January 10, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fun stay overall - a few disappointing notes We have stayed at the Hunter Valley Crowne Plaza before on an anniversary weekend and ate at Redsalt for dinner & breakfast. It was a very enjoyable experience. This time we were with our family in a 3 bedroom Villa in the January holidays. Our Villa was fantastic however in most places you find they are equipped with a washing machine and dryer. There were some nearby but for what we pay, you expect it to be included. We spent lots of time at the pool! Kids loved it but unfortunately you had to get there early and put a towel on a seat or you missed out as people did it before breakfast and would not return for 3-4 hours. There were no lifeguards or staff supervision and about 15 kids were in the spa with noodles and bombing the other guests. We managed to get some sun lounges but were told they couldn't deliver coffee to us as they couldn't find us? Disappointing when watching other guests being looked after. This all would have been ok until our dinner at Redsalt. The adults meals were fantastic, very nice and full of flavour. The service overall was suberb. Unfortunately our daughters' meals were seasoned with pepper. We asked for them to be cooked again and could see from our seat that the chef was very angry! The head waitress came and told us that we should have asked for them to be unseasoned! Childrens' meals never are so of course we hadn't! She said that they always do at that restaurant and had a go at us for not asking to have them unseasoned! Our good friends frequent the restaurant & hotel regularly and never have had the kids' meals pre-seasoned. Even many adults prefer not to have pepper and are usually asked if they want pepper when a meal is served. We were made to feel like we had done the wrong thing! What happened to the customer is always right? Even though our meals were very good - unfortunately we were not treated with the same respect after returning our kids meals. The girls ate the meals when returned as they were cooked without pepper! However is really spoiled the night and our memories of this holiday January 10, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great stay We stayed in a 3 bedroom villa which was really comfortable. My only recommendation is that they consider expanding the pool in the next renovations. There were not enough pool chairs which people became very protective of (and a little bit rude). Also, I counted 25 small children in the jacuzzi at one stage (it was packed with children most of the time I was there) which was fairly unappealing. January 9, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The best place to stay in the Hunter We just spent New Years at Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley (Villas) and had an enjoyable stay. The Villa we stayed in was neat and tidy (only downfall was that it smelt like cigarette) and so roomy! The hotel facilities are fabulous and the staff are always extremely friendly (5th stay for us) Location is great - not too far from main winerys and Hunter Gardens. Golf and pool facilities are fantastic too. It is just unfortunate the cost of the Villas are a bit pricey - otherwise we would make it a more frequent holiday. If you are looking for an unforgettable experience I highly recommend this hotel. January 8, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Enjoyable break We had a party of six over the Christmas break. The resort was full but our villa was nicely private and we used the barbeque option one evening, which worked well. Excellent golf course and friendly staff throughout the stay. A good base for touring the Hunter. Only criticism was lack of sufficient loungers and space around the pool. The resort could do with two pools, one for children and one deeper pool for adults, as the present pool is too full over busy periods. January 5, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice place to stay but not worth the money Travelling around the world this was was supposed to be a 5 star hotel, not even close to 4 in my books. The place was nice and peaceful and staff was great. Food was ok not great. January 5, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Greatly improved service It was our second stay at the Crowne Plaza. Last year, we were little disappointed with extremely slow check-in procedure (rooms were not ready because of delay with housekeeping). However, everything else was great which led us to return. This year, we arrived around 1 PM and we were able to check-in straight away. Staff were still very friendly, rooms (3 bed villa) were clean etc. Food at the Vines cafe was better than last year. Overall, we had great time. January 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice atmosphere and great pool for kids I have visited here every year for the past five years and enjoy it every time. We stay in a 3bed villa which has plenty of room and very comfortable. We always spend a lot of time at the huge pool with awesome outdoor spa as we have 3 kids aged 4,6,8. There's plenty to do, golf, tennis, bike riding or just relaxing in the villa or around the pool. The downstairs bar and restaurant is a hit very casual and comfortable and not too badly priced. I much prefer spending time here when it's not too busy but we always enjoy our stay. I highly recommend this stay. Look out for the specials that come up quite often outside peak times. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by EXCELLENT RESORT CLOSE TO SYDNEY Great location, fabulous facilities and exceptional clean and comfortable villas. This is our third visit to this resort with our family. We decided to get out of Sydney before Christmas for a few days and thoroughly enjoyed the facilities at The Crowne Plaza, especially the exceptionally large pool. The only disappointing thing was that the bar/cafe next to pool is poorly run and has been so since we first visited the resort two years ago. Aside from the lack of service - I cannot understand why you need to cue at one counter for drinks and another for food. Please improve this to an acceptable standard that is in keeping with the exceptional facilities and service provided through all other areas of the resort. January 3, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Family Villa clean and comfortable We spent one night per Xmas Eve with 5adults and 2 Grandsons ,proved excellent choice with pool and bar ,breakfast all food choices very tasty together with friendly staff no stress . January 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Location and great service We spent 5 nights at Crown Hunter Valley. The location was perfect for a Balloon Flight and wine tour. The golf course was in excellent condition and was very challenging. Plenty of water hazards. Rooms were excellent. All amenities were very good. Pool, Gym, etc. Xmas lunch was outstanding. The service was the best making our stay a xmas to remember. January 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Christmas Lunch 2012 Our first experience with Christmas lunch and overnight stay was fabulous. Despite lunch cost slightly pricey, good variety of food, drinks and the atmosphere made it a very special Christmas day. Our boys enjoyed the comfort and amenities in the villa which was private specious and comfortable. We shall most definitely use the facility again for a well deserving break! January 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quick getaway My family and I decided to have a quick getaway before Christmas, our decision to stay here was an excellent choice, the service from the staff was excellent, the menu and food from Red Salt was amazing and the accommodation was very clean and faultless. The only fault I could see was that there were not enough shady spots to escape the heat on the very nice, well kept grounds. I would gladly stay there again. January 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect, perfect, perfect Recently my family and friends booked several 3 b'room apartments over 2 nights for my daughter's wedding. I have stayed in the Hunter over the years at several different venues and have always been happy with the choices, and liked trying somewhere new, but after our first experience with Crowne Plaza will never stay anywhere else again. These appartments are perfect for 3 couples or a family and represent incredible value, especially for an early bird or mulit night rate. The laid back atmosphere the property exudes gave our party an unforgettable experience, from the quiet, private, comfortable space in the appartments where 6 girls had their hair and make up done, to the huge, inviting pool and inexpensive good meals at the bar. Even though this was just before Christmas, I was given check-in 3 hours early on request and very late check in the morning of departure, which allowed a leisurely morning and a couple of winery visits before departing without lugging wedding gear around with us. Thank you Crowne Plaza, you helped make our special day so perfect! January 2, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Staff Service This Resort never disappoints each time I visit, whether for 1 night on Business OR for 5 days as part of a Family Christmas get together. If there is ever a problem with the Room (which happens on occassion), the Staff take immediate action to address the situation and are very helpful & attentive to your overall needs. Thank you Management & Staff at Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley, NSW. January 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful short break We stayed up at the Hunter Valley Crowne Plaza to experience the Hunter Valley Gardens Christmas Lights before Christmas for 2 nights. The 2 bedroom villa was clean, spacious and very comfortable. Having 2 bathrooms for a family of five was great! The kids enjoyed the large swimming pool and the tennis court and we all enjoyed the food in the grapevine restaurant. It was a treat also to have a cocktail by the pool. The kids enjoyed the ice chocolates! Thank you for a wonderful, relaxing break. January 2, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable bed and great breakfast We enjoyed an overnight stay recently with our 3 children (9,11,17) in a twin room with a roll-away bed. Room was large enough to accommodate all of us and beds were all comfortable. The kids loved the resort size of the pool and everybody agreed the breakfast was one of the best we've had anywhere in the world. We particularly liked the fresh juicer machine. All together a great place for families visiting the Hunter Valley. January 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Welcoming, met our expectations Comfortable room, although wifi not very good, came and went and incredibly slow, our room was at the end but that shouldn't make that much difference. Restaurant good, we had breakfast every day and dinner once and all were good. We had a lovely afternoon by the pool, enhanced by drinks served to us, even if it was only iced water. Used the spa and enjoyed the experience, very relaxing, just what was needed after two days wine tasting! Would recommend - comes up to the Crowne Plaza expectation. Another plus - the Christmas decorations were minimal but tasteful. December 29, 2012
