My room was a suite but it was very worn down--in need of a face lift. Very depressing atmosphere.

I stayed at the Crowne because I was a bridesmaid in my friends wedding and the reception was there. The hotel is a little older. You can tell by looking at the fixtures and wear and tear. The place was very clean though and the staff were amazing. The answered every question quickly and accurately and they got us anything we needed right away. They were also very friendly and greeted us cheerfully everytime we saw them. If I had to complain about anything it would be that they served the wedding cake without realizing there were two kinds but I think that was more of a communication problem. Overall I most definitely reccomend this hotel.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by BusinessTravelernomoreher Need to get it together
Check in took over 1/2 hour for four rooms.
Room. Had AC on when it was in the 20's outside.
No Kleenex in the hotel room
Internet did not work. When front desk was called about it, they told me to call the supplier, even though they knew it was not working and "someone was working on it"
Bill was $35 higher per room that my quoted rate when I booked the rooms, I had to get all 4 bills re-done the morning at checkout.
No bill was put under my door overnight.
This place needs to get its act together.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by HDTraveler62 Needs a Remodel
My expectation of this brand is higher than what the hotel provided to me. While the staff were great, the hotel needs a re-model of its rooms and most certainly the ceiling in the lobby (just take a look up).
Other brands also offer microwave and frig in the room, my had none. Carpet, bathroom floor and decor all seemed out dated and worn.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by nolacolleen Hotel is due for re-modeling
My first impression of the hotel was negative even before arriving. Even though I have stayed at IHG hotels enough this year to achieve platinum status I was threatened with having my room cancelled if I did not provide updated credit card information over the phone. The credit card on file had been cancelled nearly a year ago so every other IHG hotel was able to honor my reservation without threatening to cancel since the hotel was sold out for that night.
Carpets throughout the common area, especially the elevators were dirty and had multiple stains. Carpet in the room was frayed in places and very dirty. Just a few minutes of walking in my room turned the bottom of my white socks to black. Shower in my first room was leaking so I notified the front desk and was moved to another room. Fortunately the room was next door so moving all my stuff was not a huge hassle and for my inconvenience I was given a coupon for a free overpriced movie. My new room had a faucet leaking in the bar area that I didn't even bother to report because I did not want to have to move rooms again.
Service in the bar was lacking as well. When I pointed out to my bartender that their was a foreign object in my food he grabbed a cocktail napkin and wiped it off my plate 'saying I don't see anything'. I understand that this was probably his attempt at making a joke but I did not find it funny and never received an apology or any other attempts to make it right.
Next visit to the bar was not much better. My guest ordered a cocktail that required mint. The manager who was making the drink chose to use old mint that he knew was not good. The drink was served with dried up pieces of what should have been fresh mint that made the drink unappetizing and was sent back. Again no apologies and the manager avoided eye contact for the rest of my visit .
Front desk was hit and miss on being staffed with competent employees. On one incident the front desk clerk was in the middle of assisting me when she stopped so she could take care of the liquor vendor that was behind me in line. Who is the customer here? Not only was I made to wait while she took care of the hotel vendor she was not able to complete my request correctly. When I verified later in the day with the one customer service oriented front desk clerk it was determined that my request to add an additional person to my room was not entered in the computer.
Value for my money at this hotel was extremely low.

I usually come to Madison to present training to Federal employees. As such I need a good night of sleep before
training starts. The Crowne Plaza has always provided that
for me. Keep up the good work.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by MDiG Comfortable
My 1 night stay at the Crown Plaza Hotel was very pleasant.
The bed was very comfortable and was dressed in lovely cotton linens, very sumptuous and a pleasant surprise given the very reasonable room rate.
There was one slight hiccup. When I checked in I asked about the air port shuttle which I would require the next morning. I was told by the front desk clerk that when I was ready to depart I need only go to front desk and request the shuttle. That was not the case which I discovered the next morning when double checking the point with the front desk. As it turned out the shuttle actually must be booked in advance.
Not a big deal but something that could cause stress if a person under that impression, needed to get to the airport fast only to discover the shuttle is not available at a moments notice.
All in all a good hotel and great value for the money.

This hotel is in a great location for many Madison visitors. Although the facility could use an update, it is still a nice play to stay overall. The staff was friendly and the rooms were quiet.

Although the staff was extremely pleasant - the hotel is in definite need of improvements. The furniture in the room was torn. The shower tiles were in need of repair as was the drain (slow drainage). I anticipate that I will utilize other properties within the IHG family before I return should no improvements be made.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MarkRB Good location at a reasonable price, good service
I stayed at Crowne Plaza in Madison, WI for 3 nights on a business trip. It is in a convenient location, close to the airport and across the street from a mall and a number of restaurants. The shuttle service was particularly convenient, taking me to and from the airport as well as to and from the company I was visiting each day. This saved ,me a lot of money I would have spent on cab fares.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pj3333333 Expected more for the money....
It was nice because we had a wedding there. Atmosphere of overall hotel is very nice! So many windows!!! Open, bar was nice, reception nice. Room was average to below average. Beds were tiny! Bathroom was kind of gross and I noticed really tiny bugs on the floor near the bath tub. Grossed me out!! View out the window was at someone elses house so we couldn bave the curtains open. A customer was complaining of falling on a torn piece of carpet in the hallway.... For as much as the rooms were I was expecting it to be nicer. Overall pretty good but not sure if I would pick it if I didn't have a reception here.

We stay at this hotel frequently and recommend it to others. The staff is friendly and accomodating. We are especially impressed with the staff, service and food selection at Growlers Bar and Grill.
We love the pool, but it could use a little cleaning around the ring.

Loved our stay except we had recommended this hotel for our group going to the Badger game. We had planned to get together and order pizza etc. because in our room the tv card listed the stations we were interested in we did not get hbo or espn etc as were listed on the card there were a bunch of stations listed and all we could get was 7 stations it put a real damper on our little get together

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Bucky23 Decent, not great
I'll start off by saying that I was really only in my room to sleep so I can't review all parts of the hotel. That said, my room was clean and the bed was decently comfortable, so that was a plus. The pillows are fairly small, maybe 2/3rds the size of a normal pillow, which made getting comfortable a bit of a pain.
Out of all the channels on the TV, maybe 4-5 actually worked. Again, not a huge issue because I wasn't there much, but getting home one night I did want to watch ESPN and like most channels, showed up as unavailable on the screen.
The front desk messed up my reservation a little bit because they assumed that since a friend dropped me off at the hotel, he would be staying there with me and tacked on another $10.00 a night without even asking me. Luckily I noticed before signing the paperwork and had them correct it. This added quite a bit of time to my check-in as the representative had to fix the entire reservation.
Overall it was decent for the price. A bit expensive for Madison but close to the airport and they have a 24 hour shuttle.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Robert2000 Club floor means nothing.
I paid extra to be on club floor. The club is not open during my three day stay and it never has been during those days according to sign on door.. Why was I charged extra and not told there would be no club. One "drink" card hardly makes up for no club, expecially since the Starbucks in lobby never seems to open.
Very rude receptionist when I checked in and room was not ready for another three hours after I arrived.

Gretted by the smell of what I can only assume is the lingering smell of what once was a 'smoking' room.
I thought I'd booked Q bed#s# room, but they were 2 full size beds. I went to the front desk, only to find the hotel was all Full/Double Beds, or King bed, rooms.
So I paid to upgrade to a King suite #husband is 6'4" and 300 lbs- and a full bed is a 'no-go' for us), , (the other bed is a sofa pull-out, augghh) to accomodate my family.
The back of the door in the bathroom had massive amounts of peeling paint and rust at the bottom.
Needed extra towels in bathroom, housekeeping lady going into room next to us ignored us in the hallway. She must have been on an important mission.
In the morning, went to have coffee in the room, only to find someone elses leftover coffee in the cup when I removed the paper mug-cover. Ugh.

Pool in the lobby with glass walls. Everyone checking in can see you. So bazzard. Bed is not comfy, pillow is tiny as to be and the front desk did nothing about the kids playing football, while their football was hitting vehicles.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by mtbauer88 Good room but no attention to detail
The one good thing about our stay was the room which is I guess what you pay for. Room was clean and comfortable. We also paid about $20 more to stay on the top floor and requested a quite room. All of this was granted.
Downside to the stay was that the customer service was quite poor. We waited 20 (almost 25) minutes to check in. There was only one staff member at the desk and he was handling some concern from someone else. I have no idea where any other staff members were. By the time we checked in there was a line of about 5 people waiting behind us.
We were in town for a wedding and needed directions and advice on parking. When we approached the desk we again had to wait about 10 minutes for any assistance. The guy helping us wasn't helpful at all and seemed annoyed answering any questions.
Overall it seemed like a nice place to stay. They did have a wedding going on in the hotel that day so I'm not sure if they were overbooked or just short staff. Or if their staff just didn't pay attention to people waiting for long periods of time. Would like to hope that they would provide quicker service on most days than when we stayed.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Seava Rumbling noise
Crowne Plaza Hotel chain is my usual business travelling hotels in most cities. But this hotel in Madison was not my favorite. There was a continuous rumbling sound in the room, it was hard to go to sleep, even after I put my ear plugs on I still could hear it. The sound was like a train going through the train tracks. I told the reception staff the next morning and asked if there's another room that I could switch, she said there weren't any. She continued to say that there were no generator or machinery near the room I stayed, so she didn't know why, but she said she would ask the maintenance guy to check it out. Well, after I came back in the afternoon, whether they sent someone or not, the sound was still there. I was not impressed as I had to go through another night sleeping with the rumbling sound.

I drove 5 hours to get to this property due to the only reason that they have all the amenities, and reached the property close to midnight on a Sunday to only find out the Bar closed or was closing and didnt want to offer a couple of drinks even as a room service. Why would you not check with your front desk to see if there are any guests arriving and keep it open till the guests arrive or up until your allowed time to stay open to service your customer.
This was in my mind unacceptable, while the front desk know there are for example 10 more check-ins, why not keep it open till your alloted time instead of closing.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Jamie83 Friendly staff, but rooms need some TLC
I stayed here for one night with my husband and children. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and even upgraded our room and allowed us early check-in and late check-out the next day. My children enjoyed swimming in the pool, although it was a little cold! The room was for the most part as clean as could be and I enjoyed the pillow selection and little amenities, but the room itself was very old and outdated- It really needed some TLC, as the carpets were kind of gross and the air conditioner vent was leaking-
Overall an OK visit for the price

The Crowne Plaza in Madison was an old motel that needed major updates to the facility. The ceilings from the main lobby to the rooms had water spots showing where there were leaks. There was a strong stale cigarette ordor still in the hallways and room where I stayed. It was like the non smoking rooms had just started. It took 45 minutes to check in and then my room card did not work the second day. The rooms were not clean specifically the bathroom. It was just hard to believe that Holiday Inn would allow one of their properities to look like this.

Upon arrival into my room, the conditions were warm and humid. I turned on the a/c but heard a whistling sound. I checked the filters, they were absolutely disgusting!! I call the front dest at 9:15pm to have someone replace the filters. By 10:00pm, no one came to the room. By 10:15, still no one so I brought the filters to the front desk. I thought I'd just change them myself. They brought me two filters, handed them to me with no apology.
