As an ihg platinum member I always use the Crowne Plaza whilst in Manchester due to the good service, convenient location and pleasant modern rooms. I have been coming here loyally since it first opened with probably 20 visits under my belt. During the first 15 it was great, always upgraded always given access to the club lounge etc, however for the past 5 visits - 5 weeks in a row! I have noticed a definite decline.
For 5 weeks in a row I was informed that no upgrades were available nor was access to the club lounge - instead I was given 2 drinks vouchers for the bar. Better than nothing I know, but not quite what I was used to. For the past 3 weeks, my room offer continually deteriorated - firstly given a twin room at the back with the worst possible view over the adjacent holiday inn. Next week I got the room opposite the lift which was noisy all night. This week it was a standard room to the front ok, however when I checked their website I was really disappointed to see that there were numerous club rooms and deluxe rooms available.
The hotel would have appeared to become complacent with regular customers. What a shame. If I don't get good service I will go elsewhere.

From the moment my husband and I checked in we were made to feel like the only people in the hotel ! . My husband and I travelled to the hotel separately after work on a Friday evening therefore checked in separately so it was no coincidence that we both were treated like v.i.ps as we both experienced it independently , from the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble , at the front desk I was greeted by a lady ( juliet I think her name was) and I was swiftly checked in helped with directing me to the offsite ( even though its directly opposite ) parking . By the time I had returned from parking the car my luggage had been placed in my room and my dress that was carried separately was hung in the wardrobe. My husband received equally excellent treatment when he checked in . We had a club room and the lady in the club bar ensured we wanted for nothing and our glass was constantly topped up . The concierge recommended an excellent resteraunt after ascertaining what type of food we fancied, he booked the table and a cab arrived within minutes to transport us. The recommendation was bang on and next morning the concierge took the time to check to see if we had a nice evening. The room was spacious decorated to a high standard and the views out of the floor to ceiling windows spectacular. We will certainly return to this hotel again , your staff at this location ( we have stayed in many) , are your biggest asset !.

This hotel is perfectly placed for the city centre or the MEN Arena, the staff where friendly and helpful. Rooms are lovely and very comfortable with a seperate shower and bath and were modern and extremely clean. Breakfasts were typical of a hotel of this type and good quality. Parking is at a car park nearby but for the small extra charge its just as easy to use the valet parking and drop your car off at the door and arrange to pick it up at the door for ease. The hotel has a restaurant which we didn't use (sore point, it was closed at lunch time even though they took a booking for lunch prior to us arriving! which let the whole visit down a little and why I marked down the service score otherwise it would have got 5/5) and the bar area stays open until the early hours for residents, prices aren't too expensive and overall we had a very pleasant comfortable stay here and I would recommend the hotel for anyone visiting the city centre.

I have stayed at this hotel several times from a business and leisure perspective.....I found it really frustrating that rates were massively inflated due to the Robbie Williams concert being in town - I paid over the odds and didn't even get a particularly great room (adapted room, terrible view, one window.....and no inclusive breakfast). Loyalty doesn't always pay!

Had no problems check in was smooth the room was ready and was just as expected!
Only a small issue over temperature of water for a bath could have been hotter but everything else was fine with the room.
Breakfast was good lots of choice asked for a poached egg staff eager to please.
Had a bonus of two free in room movies because of raffle at check in!
Location 5 mins walk from Arndale Shopping centre and bars etc ideal!
Would definitely return next time in Manchester

Stayed here overnight for the Rihanna concert 13-6-13. Staff very friendly and only too willing to help. Rooms fantastic. Beds so comfy didnt want to leave it! Very central to train station and shops. As we werent leaving till late afternoon, our luggage was stored securely in the luggage room giving us time to shop till we dropped. Would stay here again. One small thing, breakfast should be included with ALL room types.

Firstly, the location of the Crown Plaza is terrific, A 15 minute stroll from the train station, smack in the heart of the Northern Quarter.
The rooms are all very comfortable and my experiences have always been that the staff have been exceptionally friendly and obliging be it front of house, house keeping or bar.
There's never been an instance of staff appearing to 'go through the motions' when dealing with guests, I mean how many times could *you* ask "Would you like your receipt stapled?" and manage to maintain a genuine friendly smile on a Sunday morning?
So, the 'dark'? I was referring to the colour scheme in the rooms...someone let the interior designed go crazy! mainly black and white and lots of mirrors with red being the only other colour, the lighting tends to be dim which makes it a strange experience...I should explain there's so many contrasting black and white patterns, zebra like stripes, geometric mish-mash...not a sight for heavily hungover eyes! It makes me think of the '80s

The location of this hotel was perfect for our family. We were able to walk or take the tram to wherever we wanted to go. The breakfast was superb and the service was wonderful... especially when the hotel staff was able to find an item we left in the room and put it into the mail for us! We will definitely choose this hotel when visiting Manchester again!

I've stayed at this hotel previously. I like the spacious rooms and good quality bed/ bedding.
Two things left me feeling disappointed;
1. I specifically booked a 'standard room' and was given an 'accessible room'. Annoyingly this is the second time this has happened. The room is fine, but the bathroom has a showe curtain which gets in the way and the entire floor gets soaked (as its a wet room). Also the toilet seat won't stay up on its own so you have to hold it! I asked to change rooms, but was told they were fully booked.
2. I paid £10 for fast broadband connection so I could access all my emails from the day. The broadband was woefully slow and this was a further annoyance on top of the accessible room.
Accessible rooms should not be allocated under a 'standard' room booking (when on the IHG Phone App I use there is another option to book and 'accessible' room).
The Internet should be complimentary and of an acceptable speed for normal use.

We have stayed at a number of CP hotels so this was a real comfort factor, particularly so close to MEN: superb location for this.
Club rooms were CLEARLY advertised as 8th floor so we chose a deluxe Club-by all accounts a larger room (and more expensive). Our room was on 5th Floor, not 8th. No apology from reception- there are 2 per floor. We were offered an 8th floor standard Club Room with no refund for the difference but stayed where we were on 5th floor
All deluxe rooms are next to the lift shaft. This means a constant drone from the lift when it is use. Light sleepers will suffer
Next time we would choose an 8th floor standard Club Room.
The Lounge drinks in the evening were really enjoyable and the service and breakfast selection on the morning of 10th were 2nd to none. For this specific reason we would come back with a slightly different selection of room.

I have stayed before at this hotel and overall the experience has been very pleasurable.
The staff are always attentive.
The only niggle that believe is worth mentioning is with regard to the Club Lounge. This is a great idea and good facility but was let down by something as simple as a faulty toaster. May sound trivial but their were other guest who had stayed a lot longer Said that it had been faulty for some time.
Come on Crown Plaza, it's always the little things that count.

This is the second time I have stayed in the hotel and this time was as good as the first. The room was spacious and had all the amenities you could expext. The bathroom was very nice too - the separate shower is a great idea. The staff are always very attentive and helpful. The hotel is ideally situated for concerts, shopping and restaurants - no matter how good the hotel restaurant is you don't want to eat there every night! Overall a very enjoyable stay.

We stayed here towards the end of May for one night, a leisure break with family. We booked a Club Executive room, which was spacious, very clean and really comfy beds! One thing that really makes this hotel stand out from the other Crowne Plaza's we have stayed in is the service and professionalism of Staff. From the point of check in we were asked if we would like to leave our bags and the room key would be brought up to us whilst we had a drink and bags taken to the room. My Son caused a panic when he later realised he had left his backpack (completed with two iPads!) in the Club Lounge and we were relieved and extremely grateful to find the Staff there had taken it to Reception. Club Lounge Service was exceptional, having stayed in C.P London The City earlier that week- this was in a different league altogether! Another great stay, will definitely be back and recommend wholeheartedly.

I booked this hotel as Having read reviews on Trip Advisor, it was in a great location, I could not agree more, It is a five minute walk to the Arndale centre where there are plenty of restuarants and shops.
The hotel itself was great too, the welcome by the receptionist was warm we were offered breakfast at a discounted rate. The breakfast was the normal full English, cold meats and cheese and cereal.
The rooms were spacious and the bed was so comfortable it was terribly hard getting up in the morning.
We will defientely return here when we next visit Manchester again, which we hope to do soon.

Stayed here for long weekend and it's a good hotel. Staff were pleasant, room was lovely and comfortable. Location was ideal for shopping and eating/drinking in the Northen Quarter. 4 min walk to train station too.

I have stayed at IHG hotels all over the world and this regrettably fairs as one of the poorest of all.
I was warmly welcomed as a Platinum Elite member on arrival and was upgraded to a club room for which I was/am very grateful for. This also gave me access to the club lounge. The performance by staff at reception and in that lounge was good. However, the service provided by the room service was less than poor, hence my overall rating for service as fair. The room service wanted to deliver the food 30 minutes before my requested time and when trying to explain to the lady in the kitchen this fact, her lack of English created even more confusion. Luckily the chef stepped in. When the food did arrive it looked and tasted like it had been kept warm for those extra 30 minutes (steak was ok, but chips were very tired). I rang the kitchen up after I had finished and asked them to collect the tray from outside my door (circa 2030hrs), however the tray was still there when I checked out at 0915hrs the following day.
What made my stay even worse was that the club room I was given (room 629 from memory) was right next to the lift shaft. From 2am onwards I was woken up continuously as the lift made its way from floor to floor. Not the best way to be prepared for a business meeting the following day.
Did I alert the management to any of this? No. On the basis that complaining mid-way through the night would have assumed I was compos mentis, which I was not. Even if I had have been, I would not have wanted or expected to be moved rooms given the unheathy hour. In the morning I must admit I just wanted to get to my meeting and did not feel in the mood to give feedback - I just about managed the meeting without nodding off.
A disappointing experience.Now, a week later, I am still aggrieved by the experience and am happy to discuss with management if they desire. My contact details will be with reception. Sorry the feedback could not be more positive.

We recently stayed at Manchester and booked the 8th floor suite as you get a bit extra for very little money. On checking in and showing my priority club card we were upgraded to the presidential suite and the room was amazing. We paid a little extra for a full breakfast £6 per person which is amazing for centre of Manchester and the quality of food and service was exceptional. Definitely recommended.

Outstandingly clean rooms/bathrooms. All the facilities you could ever need. Bathroom products a real treat - very lush! Staff very pleasant and the chamber staff especially so, also do a great breakfast - something for everyone - couldn't be happier! Have stayed before on several occasions and would be first choice especially when staying in manchester.

Tried to check in at 1352. I know check in is 1400hrs, but was told my room wasn't ready. Waited in reception for 8 minutes and then got my key card. Room miraculously ready in 8 minutes. Came back at around 0200hrs in the morning after attending event in the city, night porter behind reception didn't even look up from his computer behind front desk - I could have been anyone. Traffic loud, imagine better if you get a room not facing the road. Room & general hotel clean and functional.
Receptionists in the morning at check out friendly and efficient.

Yet another stay at the Crowne Plaza Shudehill Manchester, always excellent, love the club room and the club lounge, definitely a nice touch. Would not stay anywhere else in Manchester as it is so handy for the Northern Quarter and shopping facilities. Tried to put another review on Tripadvisor but having only done one for our last visit in March, I was unable to. All in all excellent hotel particularly friendly and warm welcome from Caroline on reception on check in and all staff encountered during our visit. We will be back (:-)
