From a St. Jude family- I will NEVER stay here again

We stayed one night here on this particular trip (cut short due to issues I'm about to explain) and I am appalled and sadly disappointed in the management and front desk staff of this hotel. We have a child that is being treated at St. Jude and most hotels in the city provide a discounted rate to St. Jude families. Every other hotel in the city that we have stayed with was more than accommodating, kind, and if there was a problem they fixed it right away. NOT Crowne! The day we came in I called to find out if we could still get the discounted rate without the orange card because Patient Care Services at the hospital was closed that day and the lady told me that was not a problem since we had stayed previously with them at this rate. When we arrived to check in, the man at the front desk refused to honor the St. Jude discount simply because we did not have an orange piece of paper. Even after promising to get one and return it the following day, they STILL would not budge and charged us the outrageous weekend rate for one of the most uncomfortable stays of my life. I have never been treated this way in any hotel even before our child was at St. Jude! Since the child is my stepdaughter and my husband's daughter, we are not allowed to stay in the free housing provided to her and her mother. We visit once a month at least and have to stay in hotels every time which is extremely costly on top of food and gas. And again, EVERY other hotel has never asked for any type of proof even when we've offered it to them and always bend over backwards to make our stay pleasant. We have even had managers unexpectedly comp our entire simply because we are a St. Jude family. And we are not looking for handouts, St. Jude is amazing and provide for her above and beyond what we could expect. But for hotels to make the financial burden a little bit easier for us by offering discounts helps so much.
Even when I contacted guest relations, they were not able to help either which was even more frustrating! So in addition to writing this review, I'll be writing to the owner of this establishment. And on top of all that, the room was filthy, everything smelled, and the beds were awful. And I'm not a difficult to please person but for a hotel that touts itself as a luxury hotel with overpriced room rates, it could have been much cleaner/well kept than it was.
We generally love IHG hotels and have not had many issues with them but this particular incident was just downright wrong and put our family under even more financial burden than we had planned for on this trip.

most of the staff was pleasant - Valet on Thursday night of our stay excellent also driver on Wednesday night was excellent - ice maker to loud and in room 1008 the restroom needed attention it didn't work all the time - if i was to return to Memphis i would stay at the Crowne again Thank you
