Great location with lots of good bars and restaurants around the wharf area. Thanks for the free wifi! Special thanks to Glenda who did a fantastic job with house-keeping on day 3 of my stay. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by amazing service The Crowne PLaza at Newcastle is an enjoyable experience. The most exceptional feature of the hotel is the pofessionalism and friendliness of staff. The staff, whether they be on front desk, in the restaurant, housekeeping or anywhere else throughout the hotel make every effort to ensure an excellent stay. The staff are what will keep me staying at this hotel. That is not to say other areas of the hotel are anything but excelent. The food is fresh, varied and delicious. The ambience relaxing and welcoming and the rooms well appointed. The bed is very comfortable, though the pillows were a little soft for me on this stay. Attached to the hotel is an excellent gym and the area the hotel is located in is one of the nicest, most cosmopolitan areas of Newcastle. January 13, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very disappointed If you expect the traditional Crowne Plaza level f service, avoid this hotel. Staff were often rude and service was exceptionally slow. Even the most basic request were treated as if they were outrageous demands. If you are an IHG elite member, do not expect the staff to recognise your level of status. As a Royal Ambassador who spends on average 100 nights a year in IHG hotels this was likely the worst I have stayed in If you can, go to Terrrigal where the Crowne their really understands what service is about January 12, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very Dissapointed in our stay in the King Spa Harbourside Suite, Spa didnt work, we didnt have a balcony Me and my husband are Very disappointed in our stay, we were down from outback Queensland for holidays we stayed there for 2 nights for our 10year anniversary, our room was one of the king spa harbourside suites, it says in the description that you have the spa, king bed, balcony to relax overlooking the harbourside! We didn't have a balcony, that is one of the main reasons why we chose that room as well as the spa, because we live in outback qld it would have been a great change to sit on the balcony and view the harbour but we couldn't as we didn't have one, so we thought we would go and enjoy the spa! Well the spa didn't work properly at all only 1 jet was working. There were ants crawling up the walls over the kitchenette bench and on the table which they ended up venturing into my handbag? Yuck! Our tv remote in the lounge room had dried food or drink and white powdery substance on it from a previous guest, the light shade was full of bugs, after our first night we went to the restaurant for the continental full breakfast which was $33 each and my husband went to get a piece of bread and it had a huge chunk of mould in the middle of it, I got some pancakes and there was mould on that too! Very disappointed with our stay and will never stay there again! We informed the gentleman when we were checking out and he didn't seem to care and just said oh ok! I have photos of the remote control and the ants crawling up the walls but for some reason I cannot upload them to this review. January 11, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Staff Exemplary I have stayed at many hotels around the world and other Crowne Plaza's. This hotel undoubtedly had the most obliging staff only too ready to go that extra mile for their customers. Room was large and comfortable. Only drawback was the fact it had no balcony despite facing the water. Excellent place to start and end any cruise that leaves from Newcastle as they berth just across the water. Parking is not free, but it is valet and I suppose @ $29 pn is competitive. A young staff member did advise me of alternative's. Street parking is available and is metered. Metering commences 0900 and finishes 1700. Alternatively about 150 metres from the hotel there is an open carpark, again metered between 0900-1700. Fee for this is around $5. I left my car here o/n twice and no problem. We are looking forward to a return visit. There are pubs and restaurants just a short pleasant walk from the hotel, all on the waterfront. January 8, 2014

Not only was this request granted - but also crockery and cutlery left on the bar bench for our use with cloth napkins and a complimentary chocolate. Most staff helpful however we found the restaurant staff to be to busy clearing empty tables rather than taking care of guests dining in restaurant both at dinner and breakfast. January 8, 2014

During our stay at the crowne plaza we stayed in room 232, so the first issue was our keys for our room did not work when we got to our door after a 10 hour drive, following this there was human feaces on the side of the toilet of which neither of us had used yet and then the following morning when checking out the vallet driver put the front left tyre of my car up the gutter with no apologie, was a very poor stay to say the least. As a result the hotel was very busy but the staff coped very well, apart from some minor slow service in the bar. A fabulous location we booked a harbour view Queen Suite well worth it purely for the exceptional view. The room was spacious with a separate bedroom and kitchenette. Good size bathroom with lovely toiletries provided. We have stayed at many 5 star hotels both domestically and internationally and the service we received from the staff at this property would have to be up there with the best. Concierge and check in staff were exceptional. Definitely recommend the full breakfast - vast range of food and a breakfast chef on hand to cook your individual omelette - fabulous. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great facility, terrible staff service Maybe I'm the exception, but I waited on the sidewalk for my first valet experience and didn't get into the car for 20 minutes. I could've parked a kilometre down the street and still beaten them to it. Not only that, but we had told them to have it ready at that time prior, but they failed to come through. The room was nice; I had harbour balcony view. Clean and well put together. Overall, I was very disappointed by the staff. January 3, 2014

Guests receive complimentary access to the Gym located next door the hotel. ALL the staff at the Hotel are very welcoming and offer a wealth of Knowledge and show Genuine care when dealing with you as a person and not a room number .. The pool is saltwater and is not crowded.The design of the room is great for a couple or if you have 1 child as you can close the lounge room off from the bedroom.Our only complaint was that my husband and I found the bed uncomfortable and the curtains need to be cleaned. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by On the Surface. An experience at this hotel is both hot and cold. The room we had with the view of a working waterway was quiet an experience. Clean and fluffy towels and daily room service added to the experience which was unbalanced by the lack of exhaust in the bathroom. The cost of parking was comparatively expensive for outdoor parking whilst the breakfast cost was reason enough to breakfast elsewhere. Combined cost of these items was beyond the hotels station in relation to other accommodation we have experienced. January 2, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great room overlooking the working harbour Lovely suite overlooking the harbour. Plenty of space to spread out in and a great swimming pool. Excellent location very near to Civic railway station. Also had Christmas Day buffet which was fantastic. Overall an excellent hotel with good service. Obviously, free wi-fi should be provided (a major failing of most Australian hotels!) but didn't detract from the quality and cleanliness of the hotel. December 30, 2013
