Very disappointing stay

We stayed here as part of a wedding party - we had about 20 rooms booked in total.

On arrival, unfortunately the hotel's IT systems were down - apparently they'd been down the night before as well so perhaps this is a regular occurrence? This had created a huge queue at check in and the two staff on the front desk seemed completely incapable of dealing with this - as a result the queue just wasn't moving. As an IHG gold member I headed to the fast check in only to be told by a very grumpy receptionist that there 'would be a long delay'. I explained I had less than an hour to get changed for the wedding but she just shrugged and walked away.

It struck me then that they should have got people from the back office/other areas of the hotel to help get everyone checked in - especially with at least one large wedding party checked in.

Fortunately my brother had already checked in so I could at least use his room to get ready. Many others guests experienced similar problems - my cousin was checked in only to discover the room he'd been given was already occupied - fortunately he's an honest sort and therefore didn't help himself to the other guests' possessions! To compound matters, when he got back late after the wedding he was checked in to a room that wasn't even made up, not great especially with two young children ready for bed!

The staff didn't seem interested in helping resolve the situation, and although we were given complimentary drinks vouchers for our inconvenience I later realised it is only what I should have been given as a Gold member anyway - incidentally I still haven't been awarded the welcome bonus points either!

The rooms were very small and generally not worth the price tag. Although it wasn't noisy when we were there, the hotel ear plugs with every room so I suspect it could get noisy at times due to the nearby Rock City nightclub (although this isn't open every weekend).

Breakfast was however very good and the communal areas are quite comfortable.

All in all, this isn't a good reflection on the Crowne Plaza brand - either in terms of room standards or the standards of staff - very disappointing indeed.

I appreciate fully that this however does not excuse the service that then subsequently received but was the main factor.
