Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 49 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by individual service. We were pleased to be treated with individuality and all four rooms put next to each other for our family gathering. We thought the bedrooms and toiletries of a high standard. The dining area lacks atmosphere and the food average for a hotel. The restaurant manager tried very hard to keep the show on the road and coud'nt have been nicer. The lack of restaurant staff making his job very hard. March 25, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointment I checked into the hotel and when I got to my room I realised I had been downgraded. I called reception and was told that they would sort it out. When I called again half an hour later I was told that the person who had spoken to me had gone into a meeting and that was why I hadn't been called back. I was told to come to reception and they would give me the key to my room. By this point I was annoyed that not only had been downgraded (aren't platinum members supposed to be upgraded?) but they expected me to go down to get the key. When I got to my new room it was as bad as the first, just with a balcony so I decided not to bother moving my stuff. I sat in my room and thought that there was no way I could spend a weekend in it. It was just such a depressing room, even the window was damaged so you couldn't look out of it properly. I called reception and asked to speak to a manager. When they said no I told them that I was going to check out. The manager came up to my room. He was very apologetic. He upgraded me to a suite and gave me the first night for free. I want to give this hotel a good review because of that but I can't. The suite was nice but there is no way I would stay in one of their other rooms. There were some good things about the hotel. Priority club members get a free massage, the swimming pool and gym were great, the club lounge was nice and some staff were friendly. Unfortunately there were as many rude staff as there were helpful staff. Quality of the food was poor (especially the breakfast which tasted stale). Canapes are supposed to be served between 6 and 8 but they were not refilled at all. If you didn't get there at six then they were gone. The common areas are all very nice and modern but the bedrooms are in desperate need of some work. The two that I went into just didn't seem to be up to crowne plaza standard. There are very few television channels (basically 1-4 plus news) and I couldn't even get a radio station that was clear. There is free wifi though so that's a plus. March 23, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Second visit much better thanthe first Congratualtions on improving on most aspects in this nice river side hotel. Staff actually seem focused on customers, which is a refreshing change. Ashish - the Dep GMi s a credit to the hotel March 22, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very Disappointed We have stayed in the Crowne Plaza several times before because of its location and in general have had good stays. This time we were given room 103 and I didn't get a wink of sleep all night. The hot air/central heating system woke me with loud noises that I couldn't place initially. Because of its erratic nature, I would be just falling asleep again and then woken up. It was like torture. I even put the TV on and the noise came over that. In the morning I told the receptionist and she smiled sweetly at me and said yes they knew of the problem and were in the process of having it attended. Well, it then springs to mind why was I not told, or why was I put in this room. My lack of sleep severely impacted on my enjoyment of the weekend and we had to change our plans and go home early on the Sunday. Will think twice about staying here again March 9, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Poor value for money Disappointed on arrival to find a single small bottle of water in the room minibar for sharing between two people. This was compounded by only a single cup of coffee being provided for each guest. I'm sure further supplies could have been obtained from Reception, but don't believe guests should be put to that trouble. On check-in we were told that complimentary drinks and nibbles would be provided in the evening. There was insufficient seating or standing room available in the lounge however for us to take advantage of this offer. Our "full breakfast" provided for in the room rate turned out to be a very poor continental breakfast. Making clear at the point of booking that a full breakfast was in fact a continental breakfast would have been useful. Again this was not made clear on booking in at Reception but was only confirmed when I queried with Reception in the morning. We had to ask on several occasions for our key to be activated to access various parts of the hotel as this was not programmed correctly on arrival. Taking all of thes factors into account I found that this stay was poor value in comparison to stays in other hotels in a similar price range. Having said that, in a place like Reading, a large free car park is a real bonus and the pool was great for an early morning swim. March 5, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great position, staff and decor Excellent position, friendly and efficient staff. Spa facilities very good. Excellent choice at breakfast. One improvement that should be made - having homemade pancakes on the menu is great but they need to be freshly homemade and not heated up and made tough in the process. March 3, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A wonderful stay We had a wonderful stay at the Reading Crowne Plaza. Our visit got off to a good start when we were upgraded to an executive room complete with it's own balcony. The lobby is very welcoming and the ambience is further enhanced by the gentle music from the piano. The room was well furnished, clean and the oversized bed was fantastic. All staff members, from the duty manager, reception staff and chamber maids were welcoming and polite. There was a large selection of freshly prepared food at the breakfast buffet. We will definitely be staying at this hotel again and this stay has encouraged us to look at other Crowne Plaza hotels for future breaks. March 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Dinner Bed & Breakfast We had a fantastic time at the crown Plaza. On arrival we went swimming with the children which is their favourite past time. We then relaxed in our room and got changed and came down for dinner. The food was excellent and to a high standard and we had a great night. The following day we had the best breakfast ever, everything you could imagine and as much as you wanted. We then went swimming before leaving. The staff could not do enough for you which made our stay a memorable one. Thank you. February 24, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by reading crowne plaza hotel Swimming and leisure facilities were the cleanest i have experienced. Good position overlooking river. good choice for breakfast February 16, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Clean room, good location but noisy room, lack of Sunday evening food choice. Whilst the comfort and cleanliness of the room and hotel generally was good, it was impossible to stop the fan/central heating noise over night which led to a disturbed night's sleep. Sunday night meal in the restaurant wasn't particularly good with only bar meals served and one of those mysteriously not available which seemed to surprise the duty manager. February 9, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful, well-priced hotel We loved our stay at the Crown Plaza. Excellent room service, clean, large room with a comfortable, king size bed. Really lovely swimming pool and helpful staff. The exterior of the hotel belies the opulent interior and our stay was most pleasant and relaxing. We would thoroughly recommend the Crown Plaza for a value for money, thoroughly pleasant weekend or holiday venue. February 9, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fabulous Staff...most helpfull Would deffo stay again, the staff are amazing and made our stay so much more pleasurable. There service is the best I've seen in a long while and it was greatly appreciated. This is a must stay hotel for anyone...well done to you all. February 2, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Quality Food and Facilities Having stayed at the Crowne Plaza Heathrow recently, which we found to be excellent, it was a great disappointment to us when we chose the Crowne Plaza in Reading for a weekend break, and found the overall experience to be very poor. The quality of the food was particulary poor, especially the breakfast. There was a stale taste to fried food that suggested the kitchen's friers are overdue for an oil change. The breakfast buffet items were very dry and over cooked; the toaster didn't function properly and the coffee we were served was barely warm. The Club Lounge was also a disappointment - offering a poor range of choice of refreshements that we had to chase staff to replenish, and even then, hardly enough was provided to cater for the handful of guests using the facility. On the Saturday evening the sight of a seafood platter left unchilled on the counter for who knows how long, confirmed our perceptions of the poor value for money the whole stay at Reading represented. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Platinum Member - minimum service Good hotel but poor attention to detail. I was surprised that no one bothered to tell me there was a lounge. I never got a morning newspaper. the phone in my room didn't work. January 20, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice hotel This hotel is very well located, the rooms are excellent, the parking is free. Only issue : when you book dinner, bed and breakfast as a package you get a 3 course meal on the voucher but once in the restaurant you can spend 27£pp on food. January 19, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A very pleasant stay We recently stayed at this hotel and was very pleased with not only the rooms and service, but the overall experience. We stayed in one of the Executive rooms with a balcony overlooking the Thames. The room was lovely and the bed extremley comfortable. This would be a lovely place to stay in the summer and we are certainly looking forward to our next stay here. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming, but we would especially like to say a thank you to the duty manager. I not sure of his name but he had recently won employee of the month. He was very helpful and professional and is an asset to the Crowne Plaza Group. January 16, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Service I really liked the hotel, rooms were big and confortable, the spa was very nice and the staff were very kind and lovely. January 10, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Maintenance Problems In spite of a high level of cleanliness, this hotel appears to have a problem with maintenance issues. I have stayed here many times in the past and service has been exemplary, but the last 2 visits were a disaster. On one occasion the lock/chain had been ripped fromthe wall and was only fixed when I made a fuss. On my last visit, the heated towel rail did not get hot and the shower was a weak trickle. When I complained, it was suggested that I move rooms. Does no one realise this suggestion involved repacking and unpacking again and for a two night stay this is too much of an inconvenience. I will think twice before booking again. January 7, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not what I expected I have been staying in the Holiday Inn (part of the IHG group) in Winnersh for several months, but due to attending some events the last week before Christmas in town I decided to move to the CP. Upon check in there was no recognition of my Priority Club Platinum status, and I certainly don't believe my room was upgraded. I had to get my room card validated every day, fortunately it wasn't recognised in the stair door, which meant I didn't get to my room, prior to finding out. I ate in the Restaurant one night, and have to say the food quality and choice was very disappointing. All in all the location was fine, but the hotel was a great dissappointment. January 3, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great hotel and experience We had a wonderful and relaxing stay at this hotel. The bed was very comfortable and room and views over the river were amazing. We loved the TV in bath as well! We also enjoyed the spa and the breakfast in the morning. December 28, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Christmas party We had our company's Christmas party in Crowne Plaza Reading and were really happy with the atmosphere, food and entertainment supplied by the hotel. Staff was very friendly and rooms nice, clean and comfortable after all the dancing. I can definitely recommend this hotel for a stay or business function. December 14, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Long time guest I stay at this location quite often for business reasons and always appreciate how wonderful the staff is - every single person is cheerful and helpful and very attentive to their guests. They make me feel welcome and at home - which is great when far from home so often. They are kind , thoughtful and helpful as I realise I am a high maintenance guest - they never complain. The staff really makes the hotel what it is - and is the main reason I continue to come back. Property itself is lovely, and comfrotable. November 26, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Superb hotel This hotel is one of the best we stay in, the ambiance and appearance is lovely, the food is beautiful and very well cooked and presented, the service we recieve is second to none. The swimming pool is very relaxing and welcoming. All staff are attentive and helpful. All in all a lovely place to stay. November 23, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great stay briliant service from start to finish. staff were very helpful. the breakfast was very nice. checkout was fast and staff were very kind. November 18, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Hotel and easy access to many attractions We upgraded to an Executive Suite which was absolutely fabulous and well worth paying the extra. The balcony overlooking the Thames was beautiful - seeing the swans and Canadian geese was an extra delight. The room could not be faulted. We had our own coffee maker and a TV actually in the bath!!! My only criticism of this hotel was that there was no room service and the executive club lacked quite a lot of extras which we have experienced in previous executive packages. For example - we had to wait for glasses, plates, wine - breakfast was very basic, no hot food. There could have been a toaster which would have helped. Also, there was a dance going on beneath us on the Sat evening. We were warned of this when we booked in but was not told it would go on until 1.00 p.m.! This does sound rather critical but I can assure you we will stay at this hotel again, probably in the summer to take in the walks available and other nearby attractions. Lovely venue. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Hotel I have not visited this hotel for many years. It has been refurbished at sometime and the interior is very nice, posh actually. The service was excellent, being both efficient & friendly. I am a Priority Club member, so I got a room upgrade, with a river view. As I booked this hotel on an advance purchase rate, I also got it at a very good price. The car park was large, secure and free! All round a very good hotel & and a very enjoyable stay. Bob. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good value accommodation with excellent customer service We found the Friday night discounted B&B rate very good value. Breakfast was very good, so too the room. Staff at bthe reception desk were particularly helpful in assisting us with finding a venue in Reading and in other matters. There is a culture of good customer service in all elements of the hotel's provision - suggesting very effective mangement. The hotel is well located by the River and is in good decorative order throughout. November 15, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great location, service & beauty treatments! We received a nice welcome from reception which was a good start! The room was clean with high standard of quality furnishings-pleased to see good sized bath towels.Nice touch of bottle of water in fridge but as there were 2 of us sharing would have been nice to have had another!(Suppose I should have asked!) Breakfast was very good-choice of juices, cereal and also a cooked option.Tea & coffee served to table so would have preferred coffee in a pot(as per the tea) rather than having to get waiter's attention for top ups.Restaurant was light and airy with tables not too close together. All staff we encountered were friendly & helpful especially the spa manager Darren .The treatments we had (pedicure & mini facial) were superb! Lovely location backing on to the river and only 15/20 mins brisk walk to shops.Lots of secure car parking Access via code)which was a bonus-also liked the fact the lifts could only be accessed with hotel room key card. Great value for money plus priority points too-would definitely stay here again.... November 13, 2012
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Spa.... I stay at Crowne Plaza hotels at least 3 times a year. This is my first time at Reading & out of all the hotels that I have stayed at the service in the restaurant was poor. The first night was ok the waiter was nice, the second night we did not get served bread rolls and when we asked the waitress about this we were told that she would look into it. I am still waiting. The waitress dropped a dirty knife on our table & just left it. The starter came after 45 minutes. I had to ask about my pre ordered salad which arrived when I finished my meal. The mashed potatoes were salty, we had 2 orders of this. My lemon sole was very nice, which I had on both nights as the menu was the same. By the way it was my birthday. The Revive Spa was excellent. I had a fantastic massage and the staff there were excellent. The changing facilities, gym, sauna, steam & pool were very well maintained. On the first night we asked for a bath robe we chased this up in the morning and was then told to ask one of maids from housekeeping. Breakfast on the second day - 20 minutes for vegetarian sausages then a further 10 minutes for heated beans which were barely warm upon arrival. My worst experience so far in a Crowne Plaza hotel apart from the Revive Spa which I would rate as one of the best. November 9, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Weekend Stay I used some points to have a couple of reward nights to attend a wedding up at Bix. We upgraded to an Executive room for a small fee which gave us a delightful room with a very large balcony over looking the river. We made full use of the excellent pool and gym which has all the latest equipment and is a top order. We also used the room service which we found to be good value and excellent qulailty. There is a handy executive lounge which does a very good buffet breakfast as well as a bar for later in the day all are inclueded so paying that little extra is well worth it. We have stayed in many Crown plaza's across the world and have never been let down. November 6, 2012
