Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quality finish and value for money We had a fantastic weekend stay at the Crowne Plaza, Reading. The room more than met our expectations and I commend the hotel as they thought of everything. The 'have you forgotten something' card in the bathroom was very well conceived, the hidden away hair dryer and sunken wardrobe knobs showed great attention to detail. We would certainly recommend this chain of hotels and looking forward to another break before Xmas. October 24, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Why go to Reading? It must be assumed that few people travel to Reading and stay overnight unless they have to. A recent visit persuaded me that there may just be one reason to call on this particular area of the Thames Valley. The Crowne Plaza Hotel. Conveniently close to the train station and with ample car parking space, my visit was a relaxing pleasure from the moment of check-in, when the efficient ladies on the reception desk made me feel truly welcome, through a late snack lunch, a comfortable and sound night's sleep and a delicious and fortifying breakfast the following morning. I was also able to experience the excellent function facilities provided by the hotel. A wonderful evening party with first-rate buffet. I must also mention the attractive location, right by the Thames with a private landing stage. I was still smiling after I had paid the bill! October 24, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed. Not usual Crowne Plaza experience Stayed in executive room which felt small.and cramp though balcony was amazing with good views. Was not greeted with anything in room though mentioned it was for 2 year anniversary. There was no sleep aid lavender box as we normally find with our crowne plaza bookings at other hotels. Also found the tv had somebody else's name on it. Called to let reception know and they informed me that tv services were not working hence couldn't change it. This was greatly disappointing as part of our relaxing stays is booking the 24 hour movie package and catching up on latest releases, which we could not do. We both work busy lifestyles and look forward to our weekends away. Unfortunately, the balcony that night was a problem. It seemed like the room next door had people over and were making noise till 4.30am. I called reception and complained 3 times but this still continued for hour after last call. on the second day I mentioned to the reception that we didnt receive our lavender sleep aid and was told it will be taken to the room now. This didnt arrive even then. Had to mention it on leaving too. Was disappointed with the overall October 17, 2013

Clean, well equipped, friendly staff, parking area, all is just perfect. We opted for this hotel based on its location, as my husband used to frequent the pub/hotel that stood here when he started work in the area many years ago. We mentioned this on booking, and found a fruit basket in our room, along with a lovely personalised welcome card. A very nice touch. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Very good value for money but stuff needs improvement I stayed many times in this hotel and my last stay was for 12 consecutive days in Sept/Oct 2013. I still see that the hotel offers very good value for money, the location is good with walking distance to station and city center. It offers very good health club I think best in Reading hotels I tried (Novotel / Hilton). But the problem is that you don't feel any thing special from the stuff especially people in the reception, they are not professional. They don't give you the feeling that you are welcome or that you have been staying there for a while so you are recognized, this kind of care I found in other hotels especially in Hilton but not in Crown Plaza and it's very important. When chek in my plan was to stay for 3 weeks and possible extension and I am a Priority Club Gold member, I had my wife and 3 years kid with me so I asked for possible upgrade for the room, and the reply was yes you can upgrade but you need to pay extra money !! ofcourse I know that I can upgrade with extra money but I am asking for a free upgrade as part of the membership for a person staying for 3 weeks with possible extension, they said no it's not available and later I managed to get an upgrade to a family room from another person. Also during checkout I asked for possibility of late check out after chaning plans from leavinga at 11 Oct and left at 4 Oct, so the girl siad you are leaving early ? I said yes I changed my plans and I am leaving today. She said then you may need to pay penalty for early check out !! I said no it's corporate rate and we don't pay this penalty, She said ah yes I think you are right but I will check, I said what about the late check out, she said I can give you till 1:00 pm , so what is the original date, she said 11:00 I said no I need more time she said maximum 2:00. I said ok but I thought in my mind why maximum 2:00 if the room was already booked for the whole day and till 11 Oct, why maximum would be 2:00, do they have people waiting outside for a room to be empty or what. I used to have late check out at 4:00 or 5:00 in other hotel brands. Anyway, I really think that you need to consider a kind of training for your stuff and how to welcome guests and give them the impression that they are special and at home otherwise you will loose some of them who consider such things or got used to it. However some other stuff at restaurant are good like the old lady and the asian lady, and there is a young man with a beard who is very welcoming. Also the idea of the restaruant stuff starting preparing for lunch before the end of the breakfast time is not good at all at gives you the impression that you don't feel comfortable and that you are required to leave, every body around you working fast and busy with preparing the tables, not good at all. The health club is very nice and the stuff there is nice as well, didn't see anything bad from them. October 8, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Riverside Experience My sister and I stayed for 3 nights. We lived in Reading some 30 years ago and wanted to visit places from our youth and meet old friends. The situation of the hotel was perfect for walks by the Thames. Our room had a balcony overlooking the river and we had access to the Club Lounge for nibbles and drinks. The staff were at all times courteous and friendly. we swam in the fitness centre which was restful and beautifully designed. All in all a very good stay. October 6, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good location and high quality hotel I chose this hotel as part of a discount deal recommended by the organisers of an event I attended nearby. The hotel is in a very pleasant location near the river with access to a path and lots of local birds, geese,swans and ducks, which pleased my grandson in particular. There was an issue with the main course at dinner in the evening but this was dealt with very quickly and to my satisfaction. Two other issues were raised when I booked out the next day and again these were dealt with efficiently and politely by the duty manager. My family and I were able to use the hotel swimming pool which was a lovely finish to a busy day. Overall our experience was a very good one and we would certainly wish to stay at this hotel again. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by few areas to improve After 10 of travelling we were looking forward to a lay in but had a random wake up call at 7 am. There are a few areas that need a little bit of touching up like wall paper falling off, toilet slow flush. The pool area has a lovely atmosphere but it didnt seem to be that clean and the toilet had no paper at all. The only members of staff we saw were the reception team both at front desk and leisure and unfortunately this area does need some work September 27, 2013

All the staff were very friendly and helpful and the rooms and facilities were of a good standard and all very clean. The staff phoned before our stay to clarify and make sure we had the best rooms for our needs. After our overnight stay here there was a good choice at breakfast too. We had a family room it was a bit expensive for what it was and with the bed settee out as a bed was a bit cramped. However it was very clean. The gym and swimming pool were brilliant. Knowledge and friendly beauty staff. Restaurant prices were bit expensive. Very handy location for Heathrow Airport. September 1, 2013

Although didn't get to spend much time in hotel we used the spa and gym twice over weekend and found it well equipped. Room was comfortable and kept very clean by staff. Portion sizes vary night to night, cutlery is sometimes optional extra and the same dishes can be plus or minus ingredients compared to a previous night - but the quality is pretty good even if the choices are limited. Restaurant food is good and well priced. Good location and friendly staff. As an IHG member I get "recognition" but not sure what the benefit to me is (other than points) or if it's a feature I value! August 30, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable and great customer care We did enjoy our stay at the hotel only that we could not get our choice of food as there was one particular dish which was the favourate for everybody, but the duty manager was quick to apologise for the shortage and there was a waiver of payment which went on very well with us. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Lovely location for poor hotel We booked 3 executive rooms for our 2 night stay. The British Rowing Team was booking in when we arrived so this procedure took some time. The location was perfect for our requirements as we had a day out on a barge on the river booked only 10 mins away from the hotel. Also the hotel was beside the Thames itself which was very nice. As the weather was so good we had our breakfast and dinner outside on the patio which was lovely. The food itself was very average mind you. The executive rooms are very small, as are the lifts (tiny!) and the executive lounge was 'unavailable' to us throughout our stay even though we saw others in there and no good explanation was offered. There was an event going on in the function room of the hotel below our rooms on one of the evenings of our stay so there was extremely loud music blaring out up to midnight at least. I do feel the hotel should warn you of this particularly if your room is directly above the function making sleep impossible. To add to this - even though I appreciate this is not the fault of the hotel - there was a two day outdoor 'festival' being held on the opposite side of the river, meaning there was loud music going on from mid afternoon, right through the evening and on through the night. A peaceful break by the Thames this most certainly was NOT. The hotel pool and gym is very nice. August 13, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hotel & Stay review The hotel was lovely, clean and very comfortable. We had a family room as we have a 19 week old baby. There was ample space for both the travel cot & the pram and all the other things you have to take with you for the little ones. The bed was extremely comfy and the bedding & towels were also lovely quality. The location was perfect for taking a stroll along the Thames and also perfect for getting to Henley & Marlow. Breakfast was very good too. Overall if we were in Reading again, we would pick this hotel again. August 11, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointing Stayed for 3 nights and the care / attitude of the reception / breakfast staff we came into contact with on first 2 nights were well below normal IHG levels of service. The quality of some of the cooked breakfast food was also well below normal standards, and having stayed at 37 different IHG hotels in the past few years this was very disappointing, especially at this price level. The room was spotless, but due to its location there was some inevitable traffic noise. Limited pool times for children, and even then part roped off for exercise class. August 6, 2013
