Enjoyed our stay here, with attractive rooms and an ample breakfast. Maintenance seemed to be a bit of an issue. In my mother's room, there was no access to the hall light switch due to a stuck closet door, the hair dryer could not work, and the a/c was set at frigid and could not be moved. Had we stayed longer, we would have brought this to the attention of management, but for one short night, it could be overlooked. Easy access in and out of the hotel, which was important as we were visiting family in richmond.

Booked late due to changing circumstances and was delighted on check-in to be upgraded to a spectacular suite. Also got given free breakfast coupons. Staff were really nice and helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We had stayed at a Crowne Plaza in Jacksonville and really enjoyed our stay. We had thought about staying at a Holiday Inn Express in Richmond but I remembered how much I enjoyed the Crowne Plaza, I remembered that they had the aromatherapy kit to help you relax to my dismay they did not have that at this motel. Also I remembered in Jax. they gave you vouchers for drinks and the restaurant but not at this location. I could tell you more but it upsets me to talk about it.

I recently stayed at this Crowne Plaza for a quick overnight stay. I have stayed here several times before because of the location and the friendly staff. The staff on this stay were every bit as friendly as I remember. Thank you for the hospitality. However, I do feel this hotel is in need of a remodel. On this particular trip, the front desk upgraded my room to a suite which was very kind and much appreciated. The space of the suite was very large and the bed most comfortable. The other furnishings need an update including the bathroom. I continue to stay here over other hotels in the area because of the staff. They are superb! I certainly hope that IHG will invest some money into this hotel and bring the furnishings up to the level of the service.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BbSpecial20 Always one of my favorite hotels
Crowne Plaza Downtown Richmond is absolutely one of my favorite IHG properties! Although it is starting to age, it is a fabulous hotel with all the amenities: Restaurant, bar, parking and a fine staff to assist with any need you may have. The hotel is within walking distance of any downtown location you want to visit, but if walking uphill is not pleasurable for you, a shuttle can take you wherever you need to go. Speaking of walking... the James River/Kanawha Canal is only a few blocks away and has some fabulous paved trails on Belle Island and Brown's Island (A nice shortcut to Shockoe Bottom#. Ask for a river view room as high as you you can get #Concierge Levels on 15 and 16) and you'll have the finest view in the city!
Thanks, Crowne Plaza - I'll be back!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by lahso2011 I stay here everytime I'm in Richmond
I choose the Crowne Plaza every time I stay in Richmond for the luxurious feel of the rooms, comfortable beds, and great staff. I always feel like I receive a "get-away" from my busy life when I come here. This time the Wi-Fi in my room was terrible but that won't stop me from coming again. When a lot of convention attendees were still waiting for the shuttle, the General Manager went the extra mile and made a 2nd van available and personally drove us to the convention center himself. Definitely recommend this property.

In my review of the Crown Plaza, Richmond, I stated that a hotel van struck my vehicle in the loading area. I found out later that this was NOT the case. The van belonged to another customer. My apologies to Crown Plaza. However, my rating and review still stands based on my experience. Fair hotel with two great employees that I met. Still waiting to resolve my billing issue.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Rodderick Mediocre, fair, but that's it.
We stayed for the recent HEAV conference. There was nothing distinguishable between this hotel and another. Nothing that would make me say, "wow." What first bothered me was that one of the van drivers struck my vehicle in the loading zone. Why he tried to squeeze past my van with another van is beyond me. Not good, but no damage done. It was an accident. What bothered me second was that the van service (to and from the convention center) was delayed because a van broke down. On a rainy Friday, I was told that only one van was available and it was at the airport. At best, I'd be stuck at the convention center for at least an hour. Not good with fussy children. So I walked 6 blocks back in the rain to get MY van and pick up my family. Certainly van's break down but there should be more than two in operation! Lastly, I expected a hold on my card for the room. They clearly state this at the desk so I expected a hold on my card. But instead of charging the percentage, they charged me double my stay! Not good again! Hopefully, I won't have an overdraft because of this. The only wonderful experience I had was with two employees: A guy who drove the van (I can't say his name but he works from 5 pm to 1 am.) and another young lady who was at the front desk (she has only been employed there for a week). The van driver was awesome. Very professional, cordial and kept his word. He did exactly what he said he would do. Much appreciated. The young lady who helped me on my second day was simply stellar! I told her directly that she was very pleasant and very helpful. I believe her manager may have overheard me. This young lady was prompt, professional, and extremely courteous. I hope the staff knows who she is. Both of these employees raised my score of this hotel to "fair." Overall, an average hotel with two great employees who are holding it down. Hope this review helps someone as I tried to be fair.

My stay at this hotel was peaceful and pleasant although located downtown it felt more like a residential resort.. The lobby is elegantly decorated and the rooms are not only comfortable but clean. The staff was courteous and friendly. I felt important and they genuinely addressed my needs.
I was impressed with the quality and standard of the service that I received. I am looking forward to my next stay.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Flo43 Uncomfortable bed and other Compaints
I was very dissatisfied with the hotel. First, the bedding in my room. I thought I was getting two queen beds instead the room had two double beds which were the size of twin beds. Second, we received a complaint from the front desk that someone callled and said that we were making loud noise. We informed the front desk that no music was playing and all we were doing was talking and laughing which wasn't loud and that it was not late in the evening. We were told that the hotel has very thin walls. My family and I are very displeased with our stay at this hotel.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Wonderful Place, Wonderful City
My stay at the hotel was exceptional, The staff were very kind, and upgraded me to a suite that was both beautiful, clean and spacious with an incredible view of the James River. I fell in love with Richmond and the hotel at the same time. Being from Philadelphia, I came down to a sister 'historical' city only expecting to enjoy the sites of the town #which were many# but I also had an amazing and wonderfully gracious experience at the hotel. My only reservation #no pun intended# is that I was not able to check in until 3:00 pm but I understand that this is standard indistry-wise. I will definitely be coming back to Richmond, and the Crowne Plaza. Thank you for giving this Yankee girl something to rave about to the folks back home.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Weddingguest417 Some great, some not so good
On the good side, the bed was comfortable, and there was plenty of space in the room. The refrigerator worked well. The view was interesting. The staff was very friendly. The breakfast buffet was fantastic. The room was a great value and the location was perfect. Parking was reasonably priced and the shuttle was convenient.
The downside was that when we got back to our rooms and were all ready to go to sleep, the room was really cold. The front desk tried to help me reset it over the phone, but that didn't work. After some complaining to a very frazzled, unhappy front desk woman on a very busy night with all rooms sold out, the manager did come to our room. The air conditioner was stuck on 65 and there was no way to change it. He brought us blankets, but they were so heavy, they weren't usable by my elderly mother. So, it was either too cold or too warm in our room. The light in the bathroom ceiling was burnt out and the light above the sink was burnt out. There was no decaf coffee or any creamer/sugar in the room for the coffeemaker. I had to go looking for something, and the carpet under the beds in our room hasn't been vacuumed in a long, long time. Then, without much warning, they told us they'd be turning off all the water in the hotelafros 9:30am to 11:30am on our last day. We got notice of that via a note slipped under our door in the middle of the night before. It was really inconvenient to not be able to use the restroom after 9:30am. That was one way to get all of us out there early.
There were many good things about the hotel, but it was not without some issues. It was nice that the general manager stopped by our breakfast to see how we were enjoying our stay.

The only bad thing about staying there was that it was all the way up on the 15th floor, and while the view was interesting, it was a hassle getting to and from. I notice many other RPV Conventioners stayed there too.

Stayed two nights for the Cap to Cap bike ride. Front desk was very nice and helpful, greeted me as a Platinum member. Room was clean and comfortable, accept the coffee maker did not work, when mentioned at the front desk offered us free coffee. The concierge was very friendly and helpful as well. The location could not be better, and although the hotel is a little dated, for the value, I would certainly stay here again.

Made reservation for wedding months in advance,No available rooms @145-2 pm for a check in......... had a wedding and the bus was leaving at 245....had to get dressed in lobby bathroom!
Staff was not at all accommodating, just kept saying rooms not ready. They were rather rude about it.
Had to leave stuff at bell station and check in at 11 pm!
Bell station was unattended & unlocked ! Was able to go in and get our stuff.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by JQue Many Issues but could be decent
The staff were polite and courteous, especially the van drivers. Complimentary bottle of wine was nice. My issues included refusal of late checkout (until I asked SEVERAL times, dusty some places in the room, a woman's boot was under the bed (wonder how housekeeping missed that?) money missing from countertop BEFORE I checked out. There are others, but apparently my initial review was refused by the company, so I have to resubmitt this information. Also, there was a cheerleading competition that weekend, so teenage girls ran around the hotel at all hours of the evening. If I remember additional issues, I will repost. Correction of a few things could make this hotel a good value for the location and cost.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by KCKO Good overall, but due for some upkeep
I have frequented this hotel over 100 time in the last 5 years. This used to be a top of the line hotel with a great location and great value. In the last few years, this hotel has certainly declined. In my recent stay, the room was visibly dirty, the bathroom sink was loose from the stand, the remote control didn't work, and the TV reception was poor at best. This has become a regular occurance in many of my recent stays. One final change that has me seriously reconsidering this hotel are the pillows. I have found it difficult to sleep due to the firmness and oversized volume of the new pillows on every bed. I genuinely like this hotel, but the rooms need better upkeep or I will look elsewhere.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Beezes Bad Experience, Terrible Service
I have rarely found staff so sullen and unpleasant as the staff at this hotel (especially check-in and check-out staff). It began on check in... the woman took off to do something for some other patron and simply did not return (until apparently after her break). No joke, this happened. And we stood there for at least 15 minutes before we asked the other staff member there if that one was returning. Amazing. Any request, no matter how small, was met with what seemed to be almost contempt. I have honestly never experienced anything like it during my 52 years thus far. We never use shuttles, but needed to on this visit, to take us to my daughter's graduation. We had to wait over an hour for him to return and then he claimed he had come by earlier (he had not). Even then, he was unfriendly. Something in the water? The room was fine, except for the fact that the A/C didn't work well (and the first request didn't result in any service visit, only the 2nd request many hours later).
It was a joyous occasion, but made much less nice by the fact that the hotel was so much less than anticipated. It had been years since I stayed at a Crowne Plaza, but remembered the past experience in positive terms. This was bad, start to finish. I don't know who is running the show over there, but he/ she is either blind or doesn't care. Pick one,

The hotel is in a prime location. The staff was extremely professional and courteous. The bed was wonderful to sleep on and the view was awesome. The hotel made me feel like I was the most important guest. I will definitely return. The room service was prompt and the food was GREAT! I used the shuttle service and it was prompt and the drivers was great. I have nothing but glowing reviews for this hotel. I hope you have the same experience.

The venue was totally sold out due to Mother's Day AND commencement weekend. Thankfully I booked early; this placed us in a lovely 10th story room with a spectacular view overlooking canal. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. I had a similar experience w/ the Crown Plaza brand in Philly, PA so I am developing loyalty. Thanks for hosting great memories!

Our stay at the Crowne Plaza this trip was for a 10K in Richmond. We used the shuttle van several times and I wanted to specifically mention Mr. Train who dropped us at the start and picked us up promptly at the end. Train was so super friendly and fun to spend a few moments with. He recommended other sites for us to see, took a lot of time with us and we appreciated him very much. That particular evening the fire alarm went off twice. Once it was just getting over when we returned from dinner and then went off again several hours later as we were just falling asleep. This of course necessitated heading down the ten flights of stairs just to find out that it was all clear and head back up. Everyone in our stairwell took it in stride, safety is the most important thing. We were told it was all due to a drop in water pressure that automatically sets the alarm off. The hotel had many high school students and their sponsors in town for some kind of Science Fair at the Convention Center. The next morning our most delicious breakfast was covered by the hotel as a way of compensating everyone for the "extra exercise". Not necessary, but gratefully appreciated. So, on a scale of 1-10 for customer service, I would stretch the scale to 12!
