I was disappointed considering this property is a Crowne Plaza in name. The rooms (other then the flat screen TV) still felt like and had the furnishings of a 1985 room. Workout facility and pool/hot tub were nice. This is in a prime location just need to drop a couple million and catch up with the times.

After reading some of the reviews, prior to our trip, I was concerned. However, from the moment we arrived till we departed, I can not say enough about the quality of service we received. The staff was always pleasant. The room was always clean, bed was very comfortable. I would not hesitate to recommend this Crown Plaza to anyone traveling to San Antonio. And once again - the staff was very, very pleasant & more than willing to help with directions or any other question that was asked. I certainly never found anyone rude!

I felt that the room was overpriced. I understand it's proximity to the River Walk, but I've stayed in 4 star hotels in NYC for less than this. Additionally, the phone in the room only worked when on the speaker feature and the drain in the bathtub was slow, leaving 3-4 inches of standing water while showering. I left a note of the property manager when I was leaving, including my contact information, but they never bothered to contact me. I was severely disappointed with my experience here.

I don't know what good a review is if you can't tell exactly what you went trough while you were at this Hotel. I was told that my comments were Irrelevant and Inappropriate by who ever reads the reviews at this Hotel. I feel like I told the truth with everything that I said. The Staff was RUDE and the food and drinks were too EXPENSIVE. I was not even giving an apology for the staff even being RUDE to us. I did plan on coming back in July for a week, but will now go elsewhere. I do not recommend that anyone spend your money at this Hotel with all the RUDE STAFF that is there. SO IF YOU DON'T POST THIS ONE THAT IS FINE TOO. I WILL GET MY POINT ACROSS OTHER WAYS.

Frankly, I'd have rather stayed in a Holiday Inn Express. I was under the impression that this was a step up from HI Express, but I did not find that to be the case. The hotel is dated. My pillows smelled dusty, as though the bed had been made months ago and no one had used the room since. The room also had a humid feel to it, almost a damp smell. Also, there was some constant electronic clicking noise in my room all night long. I had to download a white noise app on my phone to drown it out. I won't stay here again.

1. Front desk clerk neglected to mention a charge of $50 would be placed on my credit card that was left on file in the event of incidentals. That charge was not authorized; I simply did as ask and left a card number IN THE EVENT of a charge.
2. The waitstaff in the restaurant were rude and inefficient. The Hostess seating us acted as though we were putting her out for her to have to seat us for breakfast. The waitress took our drink order and we did not receive it until the end of our meal (we had the buffet). She looked at us one time as she went by (after chit chatting with another guest and bringing the ticket to another table--and there were approximately 6 tables (15 guests) eating at the same time) and indicated to herself, "oh yeah"...as though she had just remembered. She never acknowledged to us that our drinks were coming nor did she apologize when she finally brought them. She did not receive a tip. She didn't do anything to earn one.
3. The room and comfort is rated average because the A/C did not work well.

I looked at several properties before choosing the Crowne Plaza. Service was top notch from check in to check out. Easy access to the Riverwalk with a short stroll to the main attractions. We rented two rooms and they put us right next to each other without even having to ask. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were both in perfect condition. Made one call for extra towels and they were knocking on our door within a minute! Will definitely stay here again!!!

Upon arrival I was not greeted as a platinum priority member nor was I provided with the usual treatment as a platinum priority member. The room was not as expected because I thought it was a king suite with a separate living area where my kids would have slept on the sleep sofa. However, this may have been an oversight on my part when reading room description as I thought it was the same as the last Crowne Plaza we had just stayed at in Arlington. Another issue was the temperature of the pool which was supposed to be heated and was one of the reasons I chose the hotel. Supposedly it was to be heated to 80-81 degrees but seemed colder than that so I asked them to check and they never came back so I stayed in the nice warm hot tub. Last but not least, they say that they are on the river walk which is true but it is a bit far from the main area of the river walk, about 6-8 minutes and I was bit nervous about walking back with my daughters at night. Next time I will try the Holiday Inn on the river walk a bit closer to the main area.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Chadon Guest services were poor.
The first night my husband and I were in our room, the water running in the shower next door squeeled through the pipes. The second day we were there, I tried to blow dry my hair with the complimentary blow dryer provided by Crown Plaza. It only worked on low. I have thick hair and needed the higher speed. I called the front desk and was told a new dryer would be sent to our room. We went to the hotel dining room for a breakfast buffet, and then went walking on the riverwalk. When we returned to our room later that day, there was a very sarcastic note on the vanity below the hair dryer. It said "in order for the blower dryer to work, you have to turn it on first. Thank you." I called the front desk and told the lady that answered that I had turned the blow dryer on. That's how I knew it didn't work. She said she would have someone come to the room. A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door and someone handed me a new blow dryer, then turned around and walked off. He did not install it and it did not fit the bracket on the wall. I called the front desk again because our room did not get serviced. A very nice lady from housekeeping came to give us clean towels and clean the bathroom. She noticed the old hair dryer on the floor and the new one laying on the vanity. I explained what happened and she called the front desk. I do not speak Spanish so I don't know what she said, but in no time, there was a man at the door that came to install the hair dryer. (oh, by the way, this is the same man that came to fix our TV the day before...it didn't work either). Later that evening a lady from guest relations called to get the details about the hair dryer incident. After I explained, she removed the parking charges from our bill, and we do appreciate that. One night we went to the bar after we had been walking most of the day. We wanted cocktails before we went to supper. The lady behind the bar waited on the couple that came in after us, then turned around and walked out. She never took our order, nor said I'll be with you in a moment...nothing. We left and went to another hotel for cocktails and supper.
I believe the management at this hotel needs to do some employee training regarding customer relations. Some of the employees understand guest relations, but it is the poor service that sticks in ones mind.

My wife and I work for an airline so we stay in hotels several times a year. For the price and location it was not worth the stay. $25 for parking. Really? Don't ever recall having to pay to park at any hotel. We recently stayed at the Crowne in Orlando, which was a much nicer and cheaper hotel. We also gave up two hours of our lives waiting for elevators over the weekend and I also can't remember the last time I stayed in a hotel at any price level that didn't have at least a small fridge in the room. We plan to take more trips to San Antonio but we won't be staying here. Staff not very sincere in their apologies complaining how busy they were. Who isn't these days.

I have been a Platinum Priority Club member for over 10 years and have stayed in IHG hotels all around the world and have not encountered a bad stay, until now. My wife and I decided to stay at the Crowne Plaza Riverwalk-San Antonio, for our anniversary. We were extremely disappointed in our stay, for numerous reasons, which began when we pulled into the hotel.
We arrive at the hotel at 3:30. At the valet stand we pulled up and exited our vehicle. We unloaded our luggage and waited by the door for a one of the valets. While waiting, two cars pulled up to ask questions and they were helped. We still waited. Finally as one valet began to walk past us, my wife stopped him and told him that we were checking into the hotel. He pulled out his pad and asked if we would be self-parking or using the valet. Really? If we were self-parking, we would not have been waiting for 10 minutes for one of you to simply take our car.
We then proceed to the front desk. By this time it is 3:45 and we are told that our room was not ready. Check in time is at 3. This is very frustrating and I have never had to wait to check in to my room at any other IHG hotels. The front desk representative takes all of my information, including my credit card for incidentals. She explains that it should be 30 to 40 minutes at the maximum, for our room to be ready. She takes my cell phone number, in order to call us as soon as the room is ready. We walk over to the bar and proceed to have a few drinks and wait. And wait. At 5:30 we still have not heard from the front desk, and my wife walks over to check. She speaks to different front desk representative who tells her there are some rooms available and checks her in. Where was our phone call? How long were we sitting there with a room available.
We are checked into room 1208 and proceed with our evening. After returning from dinner and a walk down the Riverwalk, we return to the hotel bar for a nightcap. I order our drinks at the bar and we sit at a table where my wife notices something in my drink. A piece of spinach? Lettuce? I am not sure, but it is food and should not have been there. We leave the bar.
Back in the room, I take a shower while my wife kicks on the A/C. There is a horrible noise coming from the walls. It sounds like something is about to explode. My wife calls downstairs, believing it is the A/C causing the noise, to request help. After the shower, we realize that it is not the A/C unit, but rather the pipes when the shower is turned on. My wife calls back downstairs and tells them that we have discovered it is not the A/C, but rather the shower and to cancel the maintenance call; she just has to take a quick shower before bed so we will deal with it tomorrow. She is told that the maintenance call will be canceled for the evening. She then puts out the do not disturb sign and begins to prepare for the shower. After about 10 minutes, there is a knock at the door. It is maintenance. Even with the do not disturb sign on the door and the call canceled, they knocked anyway. Very frustrating.
After showers, we pull the top cover back to get into bed. There is some kind of brown/black stuff on the bedspread. It is not a stain, but actually grime of some sort on the underside of the cover. At this point we are furious and completely exhausted from our experience so far at the hotel. We remove the top covers and just use the sheet to sleep.
The following morning, my wife calls and speaks to the front desk supervisor. She explains what has occurred and asks what our next step should be. The front desk supervisor apologizes and says she will move us to another room. She says it might be just a while; they were booked the night before and will be cleaning rooms as soon as guests check out. That was completely understandable and we tell her that is fine. She also offers a free breakfast coupon for 2 to use either morning of our stay. While we do accept the “gift”, it is strange that in every other Crowne Plaza I have stayed at, I always receive the breakfast coupons as a perk of being a Platinum member. Not here. Here it is offered as a condolence prize. We then take our outrageously loud and uncomfortable showers.
Before leaving out for the morning we stop by the front desk. My wife tells the front desk representative about the situation and that the front desk supervisor was working on getting our room changed. She gives the front desk my cell phone number, again, and requests that they call as soon as a room is available. We proceed with our morning.
We return from our morning out around noon and go to our room to wait. And wait. Finally at 2:30 my wife goes downstairs to get an update. The same representative that took my phone number earlier that morning tells her there is the same type of room available on a lower floor. Again, where was our call? We decide to take the room and are told that someone would be up shortly to help us move our luggage.
The bellhop arrives to help move us. We load up and are on our way. He instructs us to follow him to the service elevators instead of the main elevators. That is fine until we are chauffeured behind the door where the service elevators are located. The area is a mess. There is trash, bottles, old room service trays and lines in every corner. It is disgusting. The bellhop even takes a piece of paper (gum wrapper, trash-I am not sure), wads it up and throws it in a corner right in front of us. How can an employee not be completely embarrassed by this trashed area? I cannot believe we, as guests, were shown this and had to wait for an elevator while surrounded by it.
We arrive in our new room. It is the same style as the old room. I don’t know why we were expecting some type of upgrade for the horrible service and inconvenience we have experienced; while this room change fixed a few of our problems, it did not make up for all that we had gone through.
As a Platinum member, I am always greeted, helped and thanked with a certain manner of care, at all of the other IHG hotels I have stayed at, whether I am paying for the room or using my reward points. I was not acknowledged as a Priority Club member at all during our stay. The trip was a complete disaster and a waste of our time and reward points. Our anniversary celebration was ruined. We will not be staying at the Crowne Plaza Riverwalk location again.

I will never stay at the Crowne Plaza again. When i made my reservation i was told i could have a roll away bed in my room for my extra adult guest that i paid an extra $20 for. When i asked for one they told me it was a fire hazard and would not give me one so i had one person sleeping on the floor! NEVER AGAIN.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Troy519 Should not be consicered a 4 star hotel
We went to San Antonio for a one night getaway. This was the noisiest hotel that I have ever stayed in! Although we weren't very close to the elevators, we could hear them very well from our room. We could also hear everything that went on in adjacent rooms and there were doors slamming all night long that shook the whole floor.
For a 4 star hotel, the place was very dated and dingy. It appeared as though the hotel hadn't been updated in quite some time.
Additionally, parking was outrageous, at $28 per night. The bellhop forgot what room to bring our luggage to, after insisting that he bring our bags up (30 minutes wasted). The valet took our ticket upon check out and forgot to get our car (another 30 minutes wasted). For a hotel that has 22 floors, there were only 2 working elevators which made getting up & down to/from the 18th floor quite tedious (another 30 minutes wasted). An hour and a half of wasted time is a lot when you've just got one night to spend.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by BB01 This is a Crowne Plaza to skip
Arrived on a Tuesday early evening and had to wait on a valet to appear. Check-in was smooth. Then I went to the elevator bank...
The front desk had not informed me that two of the four elevators were out of service and to plan around. The explanation my conference attendees heard later was that one of them was overdue for an inspection (wouldn't someone at the hotel make sure those were scheduled before the certificate expired?) and the other was broken.
Got to my room and was disappointed. Putting a flat-screen tv and decent linens in the rooms does not hide the 1980s style bathroom, wallpaper, and lighting.
Then I attempted to get on the internet. Awful. I have never had as much trouble with wireless networks in a hotel as at this Crowne Plaza. It finally took a call to the (outsourced) helpdesk on Tuesday and again on Thursday. The network is very slow and finicky about connecting.
Check out was fine. I went to drop some of my baggage at the concierge so I could go back to my conference. One of the bags had a laptop in it, so I waited until he got off the phone and watched him put my bags away. The concierge staff was not helpful. When I returned and gave him my claim stub, he only brought out one of the three bags I left. I did not feel as though my luggage was safe.
Location wise, yet it is "on the Riverwalk" but several blocks from the main restaurant section. Not convenient.
Overall, I would not stay here again. If my conference is held at this property I will stay elsewhere.

I stayed at this hotel on 2 occasions now. Both times the hotel computer system has been down during my stays that have caused a major disruption to check-in and check-out. The first time I was delayed for 20 minutes in order to check-in and the second I was delayed almost an hour to check out. In both cases the front desk staff were either unable or unwilling to try and move things along. On the check-out issue the front desk person was even belligerent with me. It was this incident that has ensured I will never stay there again. On a positive note, the rooms are quite comfortable and the housekeeping staff is very good.

This Hotel by name would give you a different expectation than the experience might glean. I was surprised by some aspects of this hotel. The hotel did not seem crowded or overly booked, however the Valet seemed endlessly backed up for a good portion of our stay. At times the cars would be backed into the street fronting the hotel where through traffic would be affected. On our arrival for a convention the front desk clerk could not find our reservations though they had been booked for more than a month and confirmed no less than twice prior to arrival. The front desk clerk offered excuses or blame rather than solutions and left me feeling as though they were not really there to serve our needs, though eventually what appeared to be management did make right the issue. The hotel offers complimentary coffee between 5-6am in the lobby for those who would like to come have coffee, if coming for coffee any other time of the morning you should be prepared to pay approx. $2/cup plus tax (a bit pricey for the quality). The breakfast buffet was reasonable, the omelette bar was a nice added touch. Service in the restaurant was pleasant. Though the hotel did not appear to be full, it was not empty either, there were a couple of conventions going on at the same time, a VERY noticeable drawback to this hotel was that though there were 4-5 guest elevators, throughout most of our stay less than 3 and more commonly 2 were operational in a 21-floor hotel. The wait time for an elevator from any level was sometimes in excess of 10-15 minutes. Views from the 9th floor were a bit unimpressive, though the room was clean and inviting for the most part. The hotel as a whole was clean. The men's restroom in the lobby did not seem to get frequent attention, though it was frequently used during the main part of the day. This hotel lacked the luster I seemed to expect from a Crowne Plaza Hotel, and I will most certainly give a VERY long hard inspection of what I expect in the future before making a repeat stay at this hotel or others under the same ownership/management.

Hotel is overpriced simply because it’s "downtown" and near the River walk. Neither of those "attractions" commands $30 a night parking nor the overpriced food. The food is sub-par. Bland and without any flair. For the record, a medium-rare burger should have a warm, red and juicy center, not gray and dry. As a Priority Club Platinum member for 15 years I'm used to a certain level of service. My "upgraded" suite consisted of a room. Period. When I informed the front desk I would be checking out because I was unsatisfied, she told me I would be charged $50 for an early checkout. Her reasoning was I should have given them the chance to make my stay better. Call me crazy, but I'm the guest and I should not be required to be inconvenienced while you learn how to run a hotel. I relocated to another IHG property for half the price and 100 times the service. The hotel manager welcomed me as a valued guest, and recommended a great restaurant. He even gave me business card which entitled me to a discount on my dinner. To say the least I will not stay at this IHG property on my next visit to San Antonio

Perhaps it's just because I've grown accustom to the typical Crowne Plaza level of accomodations, but this property failed to meet my expectations. While check-in was a bit slow due to computer issues, Lisa and John were personable and pleasant. My room, 2036, was dated, and although one could tell efforts had been made to modernize the facility, it still had an old Holiday Inn feel of days gone by. The sink drain was in operable. There was a soap wrapper in the toilet. A leg fell out of the coffee table. Those are things that could have been better. Geographically, the hotel is on the outer perimeter of the core activities. The Greyhound bus stop is only a block away. If safety is of concern, I might suggest a property closer to the epicenter of the Riverwalk. I must say the breakfast buffet was as good as they come in the IHG family of properties. Stephanie was a great server. Ask to sit in her section! But I wouldn't stay here again just to enjoy the breakfast buffet no matter how good it is!

I booked this hotel at the last minute at a decent price for a convention I was attending. The lobby and restaurant were very nice and the staff was great - but the room was just average. Our tub didn't drain, which was gross, and the grout in the shower was kind of dirty. Also, the wallpaper was peeling. The room and bathroom could definitely use some renovating, as you could tell this is an older and well-used property. However, I've stayed in worse for more money and overall I would recommend this hotel as long as you don't mind a long walk to the main attractions in downtown San Antonio!!
