Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Arland Not up to expectations
Perhaps it's just because I've grown accustom to the typical Crowne Plaza level of accomodations, but this property failed to meet my expectations. While check-in was a bit slow due to computer issues, Lisa and John were personable and pleasant. My room, 2036, was dated, and although one could tell efforts had been made to modernize the facility, it still had an old Holiday Inn feel of days gone by. The sink drain was in operable. There was a soap wrapper in the toilet. A leg fell out of the coffee table. Those are things that could have been better. Geographically, the hotel is on the outer perimeter of the core activities. The Greyhound bus stop is only a block away. If safety is of concern, I might suggest a property closer to the epicenter of the Riverwalk. I must say the breakfast buffet was as good as they come in the IHG family of properties. Stephanie was a great server. Ask to sit in her section! But I wouldn't stay here again just to enjoy the breakfast buffet no matter how good it is!

I booked this hotel at the last minute at a decent price for a convention I was attending. The lobby and restaurant were very nice and the staff was great - but the room was just average. Our tub didn't drain, which was gross, and the grout in the shower was kind of dirty. Also, the wallpaper was peeling. The room and bathroom could definitely use some renovating, as you could tell this is an older and well-used property. However, I've stayed in worse for more money and overall I would recommend this hotel as long as you don't mind a long walk to the main attractions in downtown San Antonio!!

The hotel had everything that we wanted and was close to everything. We enjoyed walking along Riverwalk and dinning out there. We found the start to be very friendly and helpful. Good value for your money. Got a great discount on the rental car as well through the booking.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MPar Very Clean, Friendly Staff
The most important thing for me is cleanliness and my room was very clean with no odors, though the room had some worn areas. All staff (restaurant, bell hop, 8 of 10 front desk) were very helpful and friendly except for some minor issues, as follows. I prefer no housekeeping services during a short stay, and there was a card that gave a $5 credit for no services. I called the front desk and she said she would arrange no services. Housekeeping came anyway the next day, did full housekeeping services and put a bed bolster back up against my pillows (bolsters aren't cleaned after each guest like sheets and pillowcases, and end up on the floor). Then, when I mentioned this to the front desk the next morning on the day I left, the two employees at the front desk listened, but simply said I had to hang the green card on my door for the credit (not call), and then immediately returned to what they were doing without saying anything further. When I inquired a few minutes later whether they "do" anything about this, they said they would report it to housekeeping. They had poor customer service skills. However, I called the day after leaving about some lost glasses and the security/lost-and-found person was very helpful, concerned and friendly (mitigating against the fact my newprescription glasses were gone), like most of the staff. I would stay at a Crown Plaza, and this one, again because the overall experience was very good.

The staff was accommodating and efficient.
A little bit off the beaten trail, but still close to major entertainment.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by CerveloP3 DATED BUT STILL NICE......
Arrived on a Thursday afternoon when the hotel computer network was down. Front desk employees had a good handle on things and there were plenty of staff on hand to get guests in their rooms (electronic keys could not be made).
Lobby area is very nice however, the rooms are a bit dated. Still, our room was very clean and well maintained.
Health Club (a.k.a. gym) is best I've seen in a hotel. Spacious with gym quality equipment (six treadmills, three elipticals, one stationary bike, one stair climber and plenty of free weights and weight machines). Heated outdoor pool is great on those cool January mornings.
Area parking will cost you roughly $24 per day, however, if you plan to spend the majority of your time in the Riverwalk/Downtown area, you really do not need a car.
Hotel location is in the less traveled Riverwalk area, however, the heart of Riverwalk, Alamo, etc. is just a 10 to 15 minute (easy) walk. There is a Starbucks and SIP Cafe about a quarter mile down St. Mary's (which is one of several routes to Riverwalk).
Overall, this is nice hotel. Would absolutely stay there again.

Stayed and worked on the property for one week, 14-18Jan13. Working with Damon in Sales made the working environment comfortable which added to productivity. The accomodations provided were top notch. All staff members were pleasant and professional. Rene, a wait staff member, was a true gentleman and made dining at the hotel a fine experience. Would stay at, work at, and recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and friendly place to stay!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Tar00 A very poor experience!
Stayed at this hotel for a few nights and were highly disappointed. No real recognition for Platinum members. We had issues with the heater and at the end of it had no other option but to change rooms. The rooms are old and in poor condition. All the 'premium services' that are mentioned on the Website are non-existent in reality. For all the drama we went through, we were compensated for it at the end of the stay.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Marco123 You dont get what you pay.
The location is great. The rooms are very small, the hotel looks old, they forget one day to clean both of my rooms and they only said sorry. I´m platinum elite member of priority club rewards but i even had to pay for the water. I didnt have any privileges. They treat me as a regular client.
The people in the front desk doesnt seem to care that much about your staying. We had 2 rooms connected, 4 persons in each room but they told me we had only one breakfast free per room so we had to pay daily for 6 breakfast.
In resume you dont receive what you pay.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by GoGrammy54 New Year's Eve excursion
Nice room; space to move around. Nice view from the window. Bar and Restaurant areas were pleasant, although service in the bar was non-existent. We were part of a group of 22, and met in the bar in the afternoon to map out our plans for New Year's Eve. Would have thought the bartender would have been eager to sell to such a large crowd. Biggest negative was the elevator service on New Year's Day. Only 2 of 4 elevators appeared to be working. We were on the 17th floor and waited 35 minutes for an empty elevator; with our luggage and cooler, walking down was not an option.

We enjoyed our overnight stay at the Crowne Plaza during a very busy weekend. Like others, we were in town for the Alamo Bowl game. Our room was beautifully appointed and immaculately clean. The bed was comfortable, and we had a perfectly restful night's sleep. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet on Sunday morning and found the wait staff very accommodating. I would definitely stay here again!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by ETCV Very old furniture and atmosphere
This Crowne Plaza is the only one that I stayed in the past years that is not renovated. The bedroom furniture, lobby and other areas is very old. It does not match with the hotel brand and category.
I had a issue with my bedroom and the general manager solved the problem very good, so the staff regarding the customer service it was very good.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by rgvmom Will not stay again
If you have 3 kids do not stay at this hotel as they will not accomodate you unless you bring your own mattress or cot. When asked to upgrade me to a bigger room that will accomodate roll away bed was told that the size of the room would not make a difference as the room has a king size bed that sleeps 3 people and a sofa sleeper that sleeps 2. Rude and uncooperative staff (first night). I was also surprised that the manager didn't even know that this hotel belongs to the same hotel group as Holiday Inn.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Glidedon Aging property but staff entusiastic
For a Crowne Plaza property, the hotel shows it's age in the stained and worn carpet in the hallways, the discolored fittings in the elevators, and the most inefficient air conditioners possible.
The good news is that the staff is friendly well meaning and generally knowledgeable. Although when I reported that the ice machine on our floor was not working, the front office replied with "just go up one floor or down one floor.. Can you tell me if they are working ? ...No but most likely one of the other floors is working and hung up. No thanks for reporting the problem, nothing but an attitude as if this is the way it is here so deal with it.
Rooms were clean but air conditioner not cooling as room was way too hot to be comfortable with the outside temp at 50 degrees F.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by GEzentih Some issues but great effort to please.
I checked in about 6pm and the front desk associate was great!
I got up to my room on the 18th floor and the room was a bit warm 85F so I set the thermostat to 70F and started my paperwork.
The room otherwise was perfect with the exception of music coming from the window. I could only assume that there was a live band or something on the river walk. I figured that it would stop after 9pm.
Half way into my paperwork I got hungry for dinner and wanted something kind of healthy so I checked out the menu. But the items I really wanted was on a convention menu and not really for individuals. I called room service and asked if I could have a small plate of the assorted cheeses and fruit for one and she said yes and I ordered a Asian salad with a shrimp cocktail.
The order arrived shortly after and the shrimp cocktail was good (can't really mess that up too much.)
The cheese and fruit tray was a mess.
5 kinds of cheese, 4 kinds of crackers ( a good assortment )
Heres the bad part.
Grapes (that weren't washed) and strawberries that were sloppily sliced.
And that is it.
Three inch long tooth picks with frills stuck haphazardly in almost every thing even the soft spread cheese.
The Asian salad was even worse.
The oranges were rotten and the salad wasn't very fresh at all.
And the room temp is almost 90F and the thermostat is at 65.
I called the front desk and the engineer "Louis" was very prompt and professional.
He removed the grate and the filter (that was very clean, that shows me that they take good care of the HVAC systems.)
He said he knew what was the issue and that he would return.
A few minutes later he did and apologized that the first shift neglected to tell him that they shutdown the chillers on that floor
and that he would move me to another floor that was 100% functional. He promptly returned with a luggage cart and a new room key and offered to provide a free breakfast.
I was very impressed with him and his professionalism.
I was also very impressed with the great TV in the room but very disappointed with the cable service. Having such a large HDTV with less than standard def service is like having a ferrari on a mud track.
At the end of the stay the front desk did comp me for the room service.
