Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by CorvetteLoverRC5ROX Old property with new paint
Not at all what I expected. A decades old property with outside hallways, multiple buildings and a "hawaiian theme". The room safe is so small that it can only be used to secure a wallet. The A/C unit couldn't be regulated, tub drain was clogged and the internet was so slow that I finally gave up and drove to a Starbucks to get some work done. The granite in the bathroom was nice, but that was the high point of the room. The continental breakfast was not sufficiently stocked to give the guests adequate choices. By 9am the sweet rolls were gone, the croissants were gone, and the only fruit available was unripe honeydew.
One unexpected highlight of this property was the Islands Sushi Bar located in the hotel. Great sushi, great prices and a super happy hour. Next trip, I'll be going back to the Indigo Hotel in Downtown San Diego.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by rbdst555 Room price for weddings
First of all, let me say that Cindy, the events planner is one of the nicest people I have ever met. She did an exceptional job at making my daughters wedding wonderful. She is kind, easy to speak with and very funny. I would rate her as excellent plus......
The main reason I have any problems with the Crowne Plaza is the manager. We booked rooms under the Weddings Inspiration and were supposed to get a 30% discount. I had to argue with the hotel manager who would not give us or any of our guests the price that was quoted to me and that I passed along to all the guests. In fact, he said he would not ask any of thte guest what wedding they were booked under to apply any type of discount and it was up to me to do it. It was so awful. It took over an hour to get him to commit and he was rude, sarcastic and very unprofessional. Then..... upon checkout, I discovered he did not give the guest any discount and the room cost was almost double what I was quoted. Again, I had to argue with the desk clerk to get one family the discount. I have no idea if all the guests received the discount as not one person was flagged to receive it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by NoNicknameGuy Outstanding Staff & Service
I'll start by letting you know that I am a Manager for one of the world's largest companies; over 72,000 employees in 35 countries. I know outstanding work when I see it, I am generally critical/skeptical and I don't send many reviews like this.
A few recommendations I have are 1) to make it a non-smoking property, 2) improve the TV (Channel selection was too limited, TV was small, remote was half-dead) and 3) get together with your neighbors and/or the City and make a sidewalk going to the West so people can walk that way as well as to the mall (East).
Other than these, I had an excellent 5 day stay. The Front Desk Staff, Bellman Staff and Housekeeping Staff were particularly friendly, helpful, accommodating and exceeded my expectations. I tend to dress VERY down - in t-shirts and shorts, and yet I was always treated with the utmost respect and consideration. I will be staying at your property many times over the next few years. Thanks again for your wonderful efforts. They did not go unnoticed.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Dennybski Only if the Company is paying for it!
Spent 50,000 of my hard eared points that I ha been saving for a year and a half, and typically love the crown plaza, however this trip made me wish I would of saved my points.
It was my daughters b-day and I bought her a tablet, only to find out the hotel' internet was not working or was very slow so my daughter couldn't play with her new toy. I couldn't do my work with-out it either.
TV connections were broke, so I could entertain my girls with a dvd movie.
Un-expected charges on my debit card, didn't use it while I was there.
Beds were not comfortable.
No Housekeepers stopped by the whole duration of my stay.
Wouldn't stay here again unless I had to.
Pool was nice but crowded.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Andy61 not up to Crowne Plaza Standards
We went here for a San Diego week long getaway. Any Holiday Inn Express would put this place to shame. Elevators that weren't working half the time, could not order movies on the TV, the bathtub drain backed up on us, some light fixtures did not work, had a bug crawling in our bed, the hot tub operation buttons came off in our hands when we tried to turn it on, the food in the Priority Club level was terrible, coffee was so-so, both breakfast and dinner snacks were lame.
I am a Priority Club IHG platinum member and I used points for this stay but I really regretted staying at this hotel. Crowne Plaza used to be a top of line hotel but lately has slipped into a dark abyss.
The hotel staff WERE GREAT but unfortunately the hotel was not.

We had an excellent experience at your property. Staff was very nice. You can tell they take pride in the establishment. Had a problem with renting a movie, but that was quickly resolved with a very respectful, intelligent man, whom had some very good tips for our new marine. Thank You by the way! And to make a great stay even better, Your Bell Man Jimmy is the poster child of politeness and courtesy. Give Him a pat on the back. I would say raise, But I know how big Corporations work. :)

the service was good, the room was comfortable and clean. the supervisor in the restaurant was excellent, and great. The price was good and affordable. the only problem that I and my guest have was that on the second night the power went off in the room, and the fire alarm started ringing at 2:30am. these two incidents were an inconvenient to us, but the staff assisted us promptly.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by netbuys Bwest Stay in a long time
Was referred to this hotel by daughter. After we checked in, I realized we had stayed in this hotel in 2008 for their annual luau. Found out later, that last luau was in 2009. Entire staff were courteous, professional and polite. Our room was spacious and great amenities with WiFi, Fridge, and Microwave. Toiletries were good and small touches like a scent soother packet to calm one self. The Club Lounge was more than we expected. We really felt like we were retired and having the good life!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Robin123 Our Tiki Oasis stay
We really like the Crowne Plaza and enjoyed Tiki Oasis. I think the staff was very friendly and the room was great with comfortable bedding, nice bath and a lovely terrace.
Our only surprise was paying extra for parking every day - we were not advised of this. Under the circumstances, with all the cars, there were several times when we had to park in the "extra" lots and walk a long distance to our building. I don't think we should have been charged extra for the parking under these circumstances. When we brought this to the hotel's attention they gave us ONLY ONE night credit on the parking.
The ambiance was nice - love the "tiki" decor! We tried a couple of the on premise restaurants and the food was good. Coffee in the Kona Cafe was good, too.

I have no complaints on hotel room service! Great front desk staff, comfy beds, clean rooms and even got me a pool front view last minute. Only bad thing is restaurant service. Restaurant was not full at 11:30 am one morning with 2 waiters. Took us 40 minutes to get our order (burger and salad) and they messed up on the burger order. Had to wait again to have it remade.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by sdtodd007 Clean, Quiet, excellent Customer Service. This property never fails!
Crowne Plaza Mission Valley is always my first choice when I am in San Diego. Rooms are clean, beds are comfortable and the Front Desk and Management team at this property go above and beyond for their IHG Reward's Club members. I'll see you again soon.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by brianbrian Outdated and dirty
When you think of Crowne Plaza you think of it being the flagship brand of IHG. This place is dirty, outdated, poor customer service and it has a funky feel.
I hate that they nickel and dime you for things. Being a business professional I expect to have a nice business center to use and not have to pay for computer time or paper when I print. The computers are terrible!
Nothing about this property is good and I can't believe it's rated 4 stars! NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN!!!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Janah99 Would stay here again
Pretty average rate for the Mission Valley area. We could have secured it for a little less, but we waited until the day we needed the room. We had a room that was pool side/freeway side. It was awful, but you could definitely hear the semi's using their air brakes in the morning.
The room was nicely made up. To some, it may seem slightly dated. But let's be honest, most hotels use printed material (duvets, curtains, carpet) for a reason. The storage armoire was very large and there was also a closet and 2 good sized side tables. The appliances/electronics were up to date. And they provided very nice, modern bathroom toiletries and even some lotions and sprays on the bed. The bed itself was fantastic. Pillows were a tad small, but still very comfortable. The only reason I gave the "room and comfort" 3 stars was because we went all afternoon and night without being able to figure out the thermostat. It was set to auto A/C and we were roasting. Next day, realized you had to click it off auto to set the blower with a button in the middle. The button looked like it was the décor of the t-stat. Once that happened, didn't take long to cool things off.
We didn't have a chance to eat at the restaurant so can't comment on that. Parking is a little silly. Lot wasn't full, but you have to pay the 12 dollar parking fee. I don't know if that is per night or per stay. We only stayed 1 night. Front desk is very accommodating.
I would love to go back and stay a weekend here. One of the nicer paces in Mission Valley to land at.

Hotel of class well placed well with swimming pool. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Welcoming and competent staff. Simply to regret the weak insulation of rooms with regard to( the noise of the highway. Easily accessible and possibility of parking lot.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by DanS1000 Not What I expected from Crowne Plaza
I have stayed at other Crowne Plaza hotels so I expected this to be on par with those stays. However, upon arriving for my stay I quickly realized this was not the “normal” Crowne Plaza. I found this hotel to be a bit run down and a bit dirty in some places. In addition, the shower head in my room was at nose level so I had to bend over to rinse the shampoo out of my head and wash my face and I am only 5’11”. The location is perfect if you intend on visiting the old town area and is central enough to get to most other San Diego Attractions quickly. However, I would not advise a stay in this hotel unless you like to overpay for mediocre accommodations.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by JoeDoe Great location
I usually stay in the hotels at sports arena area, but this time I decided to stay at the hotel circle. The hotel is close to the freeway 8, and its also close to old town san diego and sports arena via street. I was glad there was enought parking for guests. Most of the hotel in Sports Arena area run out of space. The room was clean and comfortable, hardly any noise. The staff at the desk very friendly and accomodating. The weight room has the minimal amount of equipment but it does d job. There is a restaurant and a bar at the hotel as well. There is a decent size pool and jacuzzy at the center patio. The hotel is also close to shopping, movies, and restaurants. I would stay here again!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Outfield Too expensive
The rooms were too expensive for what you got. The non-smoking room smelled of smoke. The safe in the room didn't work. A staff member said the shuttle van could take us to the ball game and when we returned to leave they then said no. Not sure why they charged to park there as there was plenty of spaces although you could only fit a compact car in one. Did not have free wifi service either like most hotels do.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Snowgirls05 Great service and value for Marine parents!
We were treated like royalty as Marine parents, with acknowledgement for the reason for our stay (graduation of our son from Marines Boot Camp) and were greeted so nicely when we checked in after a long drive from Arizona. The hotel was beautiful and we loved the indoor courtyard with live plants and casual seating. The pool was great too! The room was nicely decorated and such quiet AC (normally they are so loud in hotel rooms). We will definitely be back! Thank you for making us feel so welcome!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Juju28 Wonderful Hotel
I do not recommend the rooms on the outside of the hotel. View from balcony or patio is very bad! The parking lot landscaping is in really bad condition. My room looked out to the parking lot and the landscaping is full of trash, debris and over grown trees. The bed pillows were small squared pillow, bring your own pillows. Please ask for a room facing pool or atrium. The hotel grounds other than parking lot are gorgeous! I love this hotel and would never discourage anyone from going there. Have been going to this hotel for 25 years or more. Did not want to leave the hotel grounds while there. Food was wonderful and the Kona coffee was to die for. Staff in the hotel coffee shop were great! Front desk staff were not very friendly. Over all - Great Vacation!
