Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Facility We were there for a tri-agency conference. The food was amazing, the facility was bright, clean and full of energy. The staff were extremely courteous. I would definitely recommend to others. May 10, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Service The stay was perfect. The room was a bit small. We were staying for a sporting event and it was close enough to walk to. Price was not to bad for were the hotel is and for the event that was going on that weekend. We will use this hotel again. May 10, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by The hotel is great the room - not so much. We live within an hour of this hotel but because we had something both Friday night and early Saturday morning in the Twin Cities we thought we'd get a room. The hotel is awesome! Beautiful and very "luxurious". The room, on the other hand, was not so beautiful. The ceiling was falling apart. The walls were aging. The sliding glass door opened to the banquet hall / hall way. THANKFULLY there was nothing going on so it wasn't noisy BUT there was some goshawful clanking in the middle of the night randomly. FIgured out it's the pipes when someone near us would flush. So, overall - it filled our purpose. Was it worth the money??? Not sure. Don't get the COURTYARD room!! IT means the slider opens to the hall / banquet area UNLESS you are having a party and that's what you are looking for. May 9, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Several issues This was my 3rd stay at the Crowne Plaza in St. Paul. I go every other year for a conference. My stay, the rooms, the service have always been average. The hotel itself is dated. The conference rooms, while clean, are old looking & in disrepair. My room was not ready on time. In my room, the thermostat was broken, and stuck on 75 degrees, making it very uncomfortable. I was told to turn the fan off as a solution. That cooled it down some, but then there was no air flow at all. The shower drain would not stay in the "up" position, resulting in all my shower water collecting in the bottom of the tub up to my ankles, which is kind of gross. The sink drain was also broken & when I got into the room it was just lying in the side of the sink. I suppose these are minor issues (other than the heat in the room) but all together they make a bad impression and an overall below average stay. If I didn't have to stay in this hotel for a conference I would not choose to stay there at all. May 3, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by NEED A SMILE We have stayed there many years and this year the front desk didn't have our 2 rooms registered or couldn't find them. Priority member didn't get anything. We asked for ajoining rooms- didn't get that even after two room and the last room had someones ipad left in it which makes you wonder how clean it was? Nothing special but convenient to Excel Center. Pool was great! May 2, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Overcrowded and Understaffed Hotels know when they're going to be sold out and should staff accordingly. Last weekend was an example of the mgt failing to staff correctly. There were long lines for the elevator (one of the three was out of service) Getting to the front desk was very time consuming. The hot water system couldn't keep up with demand on Sat morning. These are all foreseeable problems that good managers prepare for and mitigate. May 2, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly staff and nice hotel We arrived in town much earlier than anticipated and Crowne Plaza let us check in several hours before the normal check in! This was wonderful as we had an event to get to and this enabled us to get in our room and get organized beforehand! Made our visit much easier!! There wasn't even a charge for early check in either! April 28, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful room! Great service at the front Desk! And comfortable bed Emily, at the front desk was wonderful - friendly, courteous, efficient, kind, and joyful! The room and view were beautiful even though the weather wasn't the best. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have recommended it to others already! We will be back! Thank you! PS Great pool! nice and warm! April 27, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good stay I recently stayed at this property for an event. The room was reasonably comfortable, but I was disappointed there wasn't a mini-fridge in the room. I can't tell you the last time I stayed in a hotel that didn't have one! The staff was friendly. The only concern I had was the fact that I put the reservation in my name, and my boyfriend checked in. They didn't even call to verify he would be in the room with me. His name was not on the reservation at all. It made me nervous that anyone could walk up to the desk and tell them they were staying with me and get a key to the room. Please review your security/safety policies with your front desk staff. April 26, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Excellent stay We had a wonderful time at this hotel. We stayed on the 21st floor and had a beautiful view. We were in the city for the Opera and it was very convenient to walk through the skyway to get over there. I recommend this hotel highly. Carol April 23, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My Stay, April 12-April 16, 2013 We found the staff GREAT! Due to the inclement weather, we had successive encounters with the staff of the bar and grille (restaurant was closed at time). The wait staff are terrific: friendly, competent, accommodating, made the experience each time fun!! There was an ongoing issue with my key: I had to get a new one four times! Staff was quite friendly and apologetic, but it was annoying, nonetheless. One morning our Wake-Up Call failed us. We reported it and were immediately given apology and vouchers for the Breakfast Buffet. Nice! I do wish you all had some pull with the Higher Up; the weather, cold, windy, and rainy, curtailed our plans of seeing more of St Paul then your hotel.--No insult intended! April 21, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Restaurant reception Because I needed to be in my room during dinner, I had to order-out. Each evening I approached the reception who initially served me well. After the first evening she delayed my order seemingly intentionally. I waited up to 40 minutes simply to get a plastic container into which I would take from the buffet. Not rocket science: give the patron plastic take-out container/when patron has retrieved her own dinner and wants to pay, take the money. Not hard, but it became increasingly difficult to complete. I overheard the same hostess say to another patron asking the same during a lull in the restaurant traffic, "can you wait 20 minutes?" No traffic in or out of the restaurant and the woman had to wait 20 minutes! What gives? April 19, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful Hotel and Room We loved the Hotel and our room! Our only problem was my side of the bed kept deflatting. I had to reinflate 3 times during the night. Staff was very friendly. It was closs to the Excel Energy Center! April 15, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Location as usual, my stay was awesome! Miss having a frig and microwave tho! appreciate the convenience of the short walk to the Xcel Center to see Bon Jovi concert! I will be back! need to provide firmer pillows! April 15, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Elevator Very displease with the length it took to get service on the elevator. We stayed on the top floor which had a great view but by the time an elevator reached us to return to the main lobby, it was full. Not sure how that works when we were on the top floor but it happened every time we tried to go anywhere. April 15, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great views and value Very pleased with our stay. We stayed in a king corner room with river view. Awesome view, room was very good sized, and were pleasently suprised it had a fridge, migrowave and table. Not a 5 start hotel but our room was clean and pretty decent for the price. Unlike many of the other reviews, we never had a problem with long waits/slow elevators. We got the breakfast buffet - okay value if you got it with room package, but would not recommend paying otherwise, food is just average, but do have made to order omlettes. Pool area is a plus because of all the open space and tables for you to use. We lucked out and it was sparsely used. Pool was like bath water warm ... loved it! Location is great for doing anything in Downtown St. Paul (e.g. events at Xcel Energy Center, Science Museum, River, Ordway, etc). Staff was very freindly. No complaints and will continue to come back. April 14, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Concert close to Xcel for concert. Skywalk businesses were closed as it was Sunday, so never got there. Easy travel to hotel. Room was very average for price. April 14, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by SLOW...on all accounts There for an event, you'd think they'd staff the front desk appropriately. Took about 1 hour wait to check in, then didn't have the adjoining rooms we requested, waited for the elevators for about 20 minutes before hiking all our stuff up to the 8th floor. Also waiting the next morning to get back down to the main level about 10am and after 20 minutes we went for the stairs again. 3 elevator shafts and I think only 2 were operational. Bar had a 25 minute wait for drinks because they were so busy! Ridiculous! This hotel gets booked because of its location, you'd think they could staff appropriately when events take place. This shouldn't be a surprise! Traffic outside on the street was very congested around the hotel because they were using the drop-off area for valet parking. Keep in mind this was a SUNDAY night. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Gorgeous Hotel The hotel was gorgeous and comfortable. However, someone did cancel my reservation without being asked to. They then sent me the confirmation email, but when I called about it, they had no reservation for me and showed it had been cancelled 3 weeks prior. Did nothing to help me figure out what happened or offer to rebook. Fortunately, was there for a conference and a co-worker had an extra room. April 12, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful view. Some noise but we have stayed in noisier hotels (motels). Overall, a very comfortable room. April 11, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pool area needs updates While our room was clean, the resturant staff were wonderful and the front desk staff were very helpful. The pool area need major updates. The hot tub only sat 4 people, and it looked like it was ready to fall apart. April 5, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Room When I made my reservation I was promised a room with table and chairs so we could have guests sit with us and have a few drinks but the room was so small we barely could sit by ourselves so we had to sit on the bed. when I called the desk they told me they didn't have any bigger rooms. Very disappointed so we probably will stay else where in the future. We've stayed there before and had bigger rooms so we don't understand why we got stuck with the small room. If they weren't available they shouldn't of told us when we called that they were. April 5, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Another Great Stay We stayed here for our anniversary and to attend a MN Wild Game. We ended up checking in later then we originally planned and the front desk staff was excellent. We headed out to the Excel Center which is only a few blocks down so a nice easy walk from the hotel. The bed was comfortable and over all another great stay at an IGH hotel. April 5, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Great Location/ Not so great place The lobby is nice enough, and the valet parking is conveient. I didn't wait long to check in - plus, however our room was so hot. The air wasn't "on" yet, so there wasn't any air conditioning. The double beds was the only choice for 2 beds needed, not so good for 2 poeple in one bed. Then woke up in the morning with no hot water, called the front desk and he know exactly what to do - plus, however if they know there is a problem fix it. April 5, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Noisy and rude The room was incredibly clean but the toilet seat was not screwed onto the toilet and the closet door was off the track. When I called the front desk about parking I was told I had to use the valet if I wanted to park in the hotel ramp. When I called the desk about the toilet seat the gal laughed and hung up! The room had an adjoining door to another room and when the people there would talk it was like they were in my room with me. The price was cheap enough with a corporate discount but I have had better maintained and quieter rooms at 2 star hotels. I was a little disappointed in our treatment as we were told we got free breakfast and nothing was ever mentioned about it. Lines were long to try to speak with hotel desk clerks. I realize it was a busy weekend, though. The clerk and valet were good a bout a later check out though. April 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Helpful Housekeeping The staff and management were excellent as usual but this stay the housekeeping and valet services were especially helpful. These employees go from busy to crazy in minutes. All their work comes at once; and for most properties these situations are a nightmare. Hats off to both for a job well done. Thanks for that extra effort and courtesy. April 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Super Customer Service Experience!! We were at the Crowne on a very busy weekend. We arrived early and Krista at the front desk went out of her way to accommodate our early check in. It was busy but she was efficient and very personable. We utilized the Bell staff several times over the weekend and they went beyond the call every time we needed them. The Valet service was excellent in what was again, a VERY busy environment. Housekeeping kept our room in top shape. We understand room renovations are in the works, that will put this facility over the top. Thanks for a great weekend! March 30, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Breakfest at Crowne Plaza Never Eat wirst than this.Every things was unacceptable.Food ,Place,Service,Tee,Buffet etc. Only Cocierge and Valet Parking Stuff was IHG Standart.Front Desk not helpful ,Ambassador Platinum Service = 0; Room so,so. Club Lounge always closed............................... March 29, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not 100% We stayed here for a concert, while it was nice to have the walkway to the Excel Center, our sleep number beds didn't work. The room was not super clean. The staff was very accommodating excluding the night manager. I thought price was a little high but I guess you get what you pay for when it comes to being close to a facility. I would stay there again, not overly thrilled though! :) March 28, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent service! We stayed at this hotel for two nights during the Final Five hockey tournament due to its proximity to the Xcel Energy Center and were not disappointed by its location. We arrived at the Crowne Plaza a couple of hours before check-in and our rooms were not ready, which was to be expected. Counter staff was very courteous, blocked our two reserved rooms for us, and asked us to return in a couple of hours to receive our room keys. This hotel offers valet parking for $19/day or self-parking for $17/day. The parking ramp attached to the hotel has very low clearance, like 5'8" or something, and parking spots in this ramp were difficult to find. We ended up parking in the Victory Ramp about 1/2 block past the hotel parking ramp. The parking fee was the same with a max of $17/day but there was no in/out option. We returned to the hotel a few hours later and were able to get into our rooms as well as find a parking place in the hotel ramp, which does offer an in/out option. We were given river-view rooms on a higher floor and the view did not disappoint. We received two conjoining rooms -- "23" and "24." Both rooms had a beautiful view but the "23" room was a corner room, was significantly larger, and also had a fabulous view of the city. Both rooms were clean. It was, however, difficult to control the temperature in the rooms. Both of us had our thermostats set to 55 and still found our rooms slightly too warm. The beds are sleep-number beds which I personally found to be somewhat uncomfortable. I am not at all familiar with a sleep-number bed and may not have played with the setting enough to find MY sleep number. There were plenty of pillows and the bedding was very nice. We attempted to leave for breakfast the morning after we arrived only to find a dead battery as we had left our headlights on "manual" rather than "auto" so they never did shut off. After asking for a battery charger at the front desk, Girma came to the rescue. When the battery charger didn't jump the car, Girma didn't give up. Instead, he came back a short time later with his boss's car and another set of jumper cables to reach the front of our car. We got our car started and were happily on our way thanks to Girma and his exemplary customer service! It is a very short walk from the hotel to the Xcel Energy Center and we found it easiest to just go out the side door by the valet and coffee shop and walk along East 4th Street right into the side door of the River Center and through that building to the Xcel. The tall buildings along the way provided a little protection from the wind. There is also direct skywalk access from the inside of the Crowne Plaza all the way to the Xcel Energy Center but the walk is a little bit longer as the skywalk weaves around a bit. All in all, we would stay here again if we wanted to stay within walking distance to the Xcel. March 28, 2013
