Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful Hotel and Room We loved the Hotel and our room! Our only problem was my side of the bed kept deflatting. I had to reinflate 3 times during the night. Staff was very friendly. It was closs to the Excel Energy Center! April 15, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Location as usual, my stay was awesome! Miss having a frig and microwave tho! appreciate the convenience of the short walk to the Xcel Center to see Bon Jovi concert! I will be back! need to provide firmer pillows! April 15, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Elevator Very displease with the length it took to get service on the elevator. We stayed on the top floor which had a great view but by the time an elevator reached us to return to the main lobby, it was full. Not sure how that works when we were on the top floor but it happened every time we tried to go anywhere. April 15, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great views and value Very pleased with our stay. We stayed in a king corner room with river view. Awesome view, room was very good sized, and were pleasently suprised it had a fridge, migrowave and table. Not a 5 start hotel but our room was clean and pretty decent for the price. Unlike many of the other reviews, we never had a problem with long waits/slow elevators. We got the breakfast buffet - okay value if you got it with room package, but would not recommend paying otherwise, food is just average, but do have made to order omlettes. Pool area is a plus because of all the open space and tables for you to use. We lucked out and it was sparsely used. Pool was like bath water warm ... loved it! Location is great for doing anything in Downtown St. Paul (e.g. events at Xcel Energy Center, Science Museum, River, Ordway, etc). Staff was very freindly. No complaints and will continue to come back. April 14, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Concert close to Xcel for concert. Skywalk businesses were closed as it was Sunday, so never got there. Easy travel to hotel. Room was very average for price. April 14, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by SLOW...on all accounts There for an event, you'd think they'd staff the front desk appropriately. Took about 1 hour wait to check in, then didn't have the adjoining rooms we requested, waited for the elevators for about 20 minutes before hiking all our stuff up to the 8th floor. Also waiting the next morning to get back down to the main level about 10am and after 20 minutes we went for the stairs again. 3 elevator shafts and I think only 2 were operational. Bar had a 25 minute wait for drinks because they were so busy! Ridiculous! This hotel gets booked because of its location, you'd think they could staff appropriately when events take place. This shouldn't be a surprise! Traffic outside on the street was very congested around the hotel because they were using the drop-off area for valet parking. Keep in mind this was a SUNDAY night. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Gorgeous Hotel The hotel was gorgeous and comfortable. However, someone did cancel my reservation without being asked to. They then sent me the confirmation email, but when I called about it, they had no reservation for me and showed it had been cancelled 3 weeks prior. Did nothing to help me figure out what happened or offer to rebook. Fortunately, was there for a conference and a co-worker had an extra room. April 12, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful view. Some noise but we have stayed in noisier hotels (motels). Overall, a very comfortable room. April 11, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pool area needs updates While our room was clean, the resturant staff were wonderful and the front desk staff were very helpful. The pool area need major updates. The hot tub only sat 4 people, and it looked like it was ready to fall apart. April 5, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Room When I made my reservation I was promised a room with table and chairs so we could have guests sit with us and have a few drinks but the room was so small we barely could sit by ourselves so we had to sit on the bed. when I called the desk they told me they didn't have any bigger rooms. Very disappointed so we probably will stay else where in the future. We've stayed there before and had bigger rooms so we don't understand why we got stuck with the small room. If they weren't available they shouldn't of told us when we called that they were. April 5, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Another Great Stay We stayed here for our anniversary and to attend a MN Wild Game. We ended up checking in later then we originally planned and the front desk staff was excellent. We headed out to the Excel Center which is only a few blocks down so a nice easy walk from the hotel. The bed was comfortable and over all another great stay at an IGH hotel. April 5, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Great Location/ Not so great place The lobby is nice enough, and the valet parking is conveient. I didn't wait long to check in - plus, however our room was so hot. The air wasn't "on" yet, so there wasn't any air conditioning. The double beds was the only choice for 2 beds needed, not so good for 2 poeple in one bed. Then woke up in the morning with no hot water, called the front desk and he know exactly what to do - plus, however if they know there is a problem fix it. April 5, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Noisy and rude The room was incredibly clean but the toilet seat was not screwed onto the toilet and the closet door was off the track. When I called the front desk about parking I was told I had to use the valet if I wanted to park in the hotel ramp. When I called the desk about the toilet seat the gal laughed and hung up! The room had an adjoining door to another room and when the people there would talk it was like they were in my room with me. The price was cheap enough with a corporate discount but I have had better maintained and quieter rooms at 2 star hotels. I was a little disappointed in our treatment as we were told we got free breakfast and nothing was ever mentioned about it. Lines were long to try to speak with hotel desk clerks. I realize it was a busy weekend, though. The clerk and valet were good a bout a later check out though. April 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Helpful Housekeeping The staff and management were excellent as usual but this stay the housekeeping and valet services were especially helpful. These employees go from busy to crazy in minutes. All their work comes at once; and for most properties these situations are a nightmare. Hats off to both for a job well done. Thanks for that extra effort and courtesy. April 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Super Customer Service Experience!! We were at the Crowne on a very busy weekend. We arrived early and Krista at the front desk went out of her way to accommodate our early check in. It was busy but she was efficient and very personable. We utilized the Bell staff several times over the weekend and they went beyond the call every time we needed them. The Valet service was excellent in what was again, a VERY busy environment. Housekeeping kept our room in top shape. We understand room renovations are in the works, that will put this facility over the top. Thanks for a great weekend! March 30, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Breakfest at Crowne Plaza Never Eat wirst than this.Every things was unacceptable.Food ,Place,Service,Tee,Buffet etc. Only Cocierge and Valet Parking Stuff was IHG Standart.Front Desk not helpful ,Ambassador Platinum Service = 0; Room so,so. Club Lounge always closed............................... March 29, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not 100% We stayed here for a concert, while it was nice to have the walkway to the Excel Center, our sleep number beds didn't work. The room was not super clean. The staff was very accommodating excluding the night manager. I thought price was a little high but I guess you get what you pay for when it comes to being close to a facility. I would stay there again, not overly thrilled though! :) March 28, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent service! We stayed at this hotel for two nights during the Final Five hockey tournament due to its proximity to the Xcel Energy Center and were not disappointed by its location. We arrived at the Crowne Plaza a couple of hours before check-in and our rooms were not ready, which was to be expected. Counter staff was very courteous, blocked our two reserved rooms for us, and asked us to return in a couple of hours to receive our room keys. This hotel offers valet parking for $19/day or self-parking for $17/day. The parking ramp attached to the hotel has very low clearance, like 5'8" or something, and parking spots in this ramp were difficult to find. We ended up parking in the Victory Ramp about 1/2 block past the hotel parking ramp. The parking fee was the same with a max of $17/day but there was no in/out option. We returned to the hotel a few hours later and were able to get into our rooms as well as find a parking place in the hotel ramp, which does offer an in/out option. We were given river-view rooms on a higher floor and the view did not disappoint. We received two conjoining rooms -- "23" and "24." Both rooms had a beautiful view but the "23" room was a corner room, was significantly larger, and also had a fabulous view of the city. Both rooms were clean. It was, however, difficult to control the temperature in the rooms. Both of us had our thermostats set to 55 and still found our rooms slightly too warm. The beds are sleep-number beds which I personally found to be somewhat uncomfortable. I am not at all familiar with a sleep-number bed and may not have played with the setting enough to find MY sleep number. There were plenty of pillows and the bedding was very nice. We attempted to leave for breakfast the morning after we arrived only to find a dead battery as we had left our headlights on "manual" rather than "auto" so they never did shut off. After asking for a battery charger at the front desk, Girma came to the rescue. When the battery charger didn't jump the car, Girma didn't give up. Instead, he came back a short time later with his boss's car and another set of jumper cables to reach the front of our car. We got our car started and were happily on our way thanks to Girma and his exemplary customer service! It is a very short walk from the hotel to the Xcel Energy Center and we found it easiest to just go out the side door by the valet and coffee shop and walk along East 4th Street right into the side door of the River Center and through that building to the Xcel. The tall buildings along the way provided a little protection from the wind. There is also direct skywalk access from the inside of the Crowne Plaza all the way to the Xcel Energy Center but the walk is a little bit longer as the skywalk weaves around a bit. All in all, we would stay here again if we wanted to stay within walking distance to the Xcel. March 28, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by comfortable beds Great location for attending event at excell. Nice hotel and good service. Valet parking is very convenient. Close to great restaurants as well. Would stay again. March 26, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Room quality Bedding must be new and very comfortable. Good pillow which is not always the case at other hotels. View from corner room was great! Bathroom small but adequate. March 26, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by First visit, won't be the last! First stay at the Crowne Plaza St. Paul was last week. Not sure why I hadn't done so before. Was very nice top to bottom. Staff was very helpful and friendly getting us around the area. Right in the heart of all the St. Paul action. Great view of the river at night was a bonus. Did not get a chance to try out the lounge or restaurant but hope to do so next trip. A little more expensive stay than some in the area, but worth it. Will be back for sure. March 25, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Okay experience We stayed overnight as we were attending the PINK concert at the Excel center. Just some suggestions for customer care. Would have been nice for the hotel to provide shuttle service. Additionally, when I arrived, check in was crazy and they had 3 people staffed at the front desk. Also, free breakfast buffet only applied to 2 out of the 4 of us because of? Could not understand why. Lastly, parking was crazy, and had no choice but to have Valet Parking at an additional fee on top of the parking fee. I believe parking should be included in the room rate. Also room rate was a bit high for the very small room. Overall, accommodations were average. Staff were pleasant and helpful. On the fence about staying again in the future. March 25, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointing stay for what I thought was a upper level hotel My stay started out poorly when I was referred to parking in a different parking lot due to the hotel lot being full. What would have been helpful would be if the staff would have suggested leaving my baggage for them to take to my room. Instead, the 'nearby' ramp was long and winding and very uncomfortable to carry my luggage from. The room's bathroom was odd. It had NO counter space and the shower had poor pressure and the second day I had NO hot water. MOST disappointing was when I told the clerk's my thoughts at check out when asked how my stay was...they didn't utter any kind of appropriate response- such as "I'm sorry to hear that" or "I will make note of that.." Nothing. Just like a blank stare. And I was very nice in my tone - not irate, just relaying my opinion on how the stay could have been greatly improved. The beds were comfortable and the lady at the coffee bar was SO cheery despite being understaffed Sat. morning. That woman deserves a raise or a gold star or something. March 22, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by best downtown site great service and overall comfort and ambiance; excellent location for my purposes and calming view. March 22, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Average hotel - Questionable service We stayed here over St. Patty's day weekend, which may have had something to do with the less than desirable customer service. The room was fine - clean and comfortable. Considering the price of our room, however, I was hoping for better service. The front desk staff seemed annoyed with their jobs in general but got the job done. The real negative of the weekend was our dining experience at the hotel restaurant. While we were greeted by a friendly hostess, our experience quickly declined with the unfriendly server. Not once did she crack a smile and seemed thoroughly irritated throughout our entire dining experience. We ordered the brie for an appetizer and when it still had not arrived by the time we got our entrees, we had to bring it up to her, at which time she replied, "Well, the kitchen is struggling." Two of the four entrees we ordered were either missing components of the meal or included things we had not ordered. We didn't complain but simply requested that our appetizer be canceled and one of the missing sides be brought out. Following this request, our waitress made it a point to inform us several times that she was going to accommodate us and give us our appetizer and the missing dish free of charge. Were we appreciative of this gesture? Yes. Did she have to constantly remind us as if she were doing us a grand favor at her inconvenience? Probably not. Hopefully the new owners and potential new restaurants coming into Crowne Plaza will be able to improve their service. In the meantime, I will seek out other options for accommodations if staying downtown again. March 22, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great room with a great view. Everything was great. Rooms are very clean. Nice bed and pillows. Check in was busy and the front desk gal was very busy, could have been more pleasant, but she was very efficient!. My only complaint would be that the parking valet ramp was full or they weren't working at the time and we had to go to another ramp. Not very convenient to have to carry our bags and belongings through the skyways to get back to the hotel. March 21, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Room was spotless! We booked a room at the Crown Plaza St, Paul, MN for 1 night. We attended a concert at the Excel Energy Center. We arrived at the hotel at around 3:30. There were lots of people checking in so I expected a long wait as there were only 2 people on the front desk. Those guys were fast and friendly and had us checked in in no time at all. I worked in hotels as a maintenance man for 17 years so I tend to pick apart maintenance and housekeeping issues where ever I go. I tried to find defects like any maintenance professional will admit to doing and came up empty. We really enjoyed the room and the service. We will be back again. March 21, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not what I expected When I checked in the front desk forgot to provide me the free breakfast card since I am a Platinum member. The lady who served me the next morning let me know that they should have provided one. The Sleep Number bed in my room was broken. Both sides of the bed were stuck at 100. Someone came up and let some of the air out, but it still was uncomfortable to sleep on. My feeling was that I would not be moved to a different room and just had to deal with it The sprinkler above the bed was disgusting. Totally covered in cobwebs. Who knows what else hadnt been cleaned in years that we did not see. March 20, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Hassle First room we assigned-unlocked and realized someone was all ready check in there. Back to front desk-assigned second room-went to second room-met by service man telling us that the room we were assigned had some major water problems-went back to front desk-received another room-finally that one was fine. However, next day either one of the key cards assigned to us would work back down to front desk for assistance. Front desk personnel were very friendly and helpful but what a pain. We were promised free breakfast the next morning but that did not happen as well. We will stay again because the hotel works out best for our needs during our convention. Hope things get worked out for the next overnighters. March 20, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Just OK - nothing special. From TripAdvisor: Stayed 2 nights for a conference and was reserved in the convention block. Nice lady at front desk "upgraded" me to a king with river view on 5th floor. This is an older property and it was a great view but the room itself was one of those long L shaped rooms with a tiny bathroom. Room needed some touch up as there was loose plaster, tattered carpet and peeling wallpaper. Neither nightstand light was plugged in and cords were draped over the stands. Maintenance came and connected everything (including the phone) and showed me how to work the controls on the "Sleep Number" bed as there were no instructions in the room. After 2 nights trying to find my number and getting restless sleep, I've decided I won't be buying a Sleep Number bed. This property is about 3-4 blocks from the St. Paul Rivercenter. Breakfast buffet was excellent with a great omelet chef, lots of fresh fruit/berries, and great service. There is a nice coffee shop on the street level also. Three elevators were overcrowded after convention day - 5:30ish. Long wait to get to room. Parking under the hotel is limited by a very low clearance (?5'8" or so) so impossible to park a truck or very tall SUV. Vslet parking is available. Additional self parking garages a block behind the hotel or a couple blocks down the street. No in/out service at these. Upon checkout the front desk asked if I wanted my parking added to the bill. I told him exactly where I parked behind the hotel on 4th street. He gave me a card/receipt and said to give it to the garage attendant. When I did, the garage attendant said the Crowne Plaza has no affiliation with the garage and I had to pay the garage upon exit. I did and then had to return to the hotel to get a credit. I thought this property was way overpriced for the quality. Next time I may prefer driving to the outskirts of the city and staying at another hotel. It may be just as convenient and time consuming.
