The Mark Hopkins is located on top of Nob Hill, which is quite central and gives great views of the city. You can walk here from the Union Square area as well as from the Fisherman's Wharf area if
you're fit, but it's a steep uphill climb, so you'll probably want to take a car or taxi if you have luggage with you.
The room was huge with a big, comfortable bed, big bathroom and two wardrobes.
On the negative side, there was quite a bit of noise from cars, cable car and people coming in from outside. Also, I would have preferred a wooden or tiled floor over the carpet. But I must admit that we had the same problems in all other hotels during this trip as well. It seems that people in California just like carpets in hotel rooms and don't care very much about thin windows and noise coming in from outside, so I don't know if there are any hotels that don't have the same problem.
We found the hotel quite expensive, but that seems to be normal in San Francisco, at least we couldn't find anything comparable at a better price.
All in all I think this was the best hotel we had on our trip, but also by far the most expensive. [Weniger]
