We really enjoyed our short stay in the Intercontinental Mar Menor.
At check-in we were offered refreshments and comfortable chairs instead of standing in front of a counter.
The holiday feeling
started with such a kind welcome.
As Ambassador members, we got an upgrade to a junior suite. The suite was not ready so we were offered a standard double room to rest and refresh in the meantime.
We declined and waited for the junior suite. We had already the feeling that too much was offered to us upon arrival and had an excellent lunch at the Golf Club House Bar.
The junior suite 321 was comfortable. It had a large balcony overlooking the pool area and the 18th hole of the golf. The bathroom was large with an Italian shower and Jacuzzi tub.
A spectacular fan above the king size bed. The air-conditioning was fine, at least for us Europeans.
The room location was very quiet and next to the elevators to the Pool area, Spa and Golf house. So no need to cross the main areas of the hotel.
The windows are soundproof so no music coming into the room from the evening animation (finishes around midnight).
The pool area was nice with enough sunbeds. A big issue was the mold on the pool tiles. This has to be looked after.
We had twice an excellent dinner at the Nomad restaurant and the very best experience was the Mizu restaurant. Outstanding !
The buffet breakfast was very complete.
The Spa is beautiful. Unfortunately the indoor pool is not connecting with the Spa. Nor does the Gym. The treatments were very good and in an nice environment. The Zen Ritual of 2 hours is to recommend
They offer packages such as 30 minutes massage and a lunch at the Mizu (4 courses) for EUR 60. A real bargain.
The food and beverages prices are very reasonable for this kind of hotel category. A grocery shop is in the resort next to the hotel as well.
The entire hotel staff spoke excellent English and some French and were eager to help improving our Spanish skills and always treated us with a lot of kindness.
The car can be parked outside as the hotel lies in a guard secured resort. The only damage risk might be diverted golf balls.
Excursions to Cartagena and Cabo de Palos recommended at a short hour drive.
We liked almost everything : the resort, the room, the food, the staff, the spa, the atmosphere. Not much to complain about.
Improvements to be done to the way of excellence : clean the pool, reduce level of music at the relaxing area of the spa and during dinner time around the pool,
provide the newspaper if promised as this went wrong every day, the continental breakfast served in the room was very poor (never saw such a poor one even in lower categories)
The resort is fine for couples of all ages and families. A small program of sports and kids animation is offered and the DJ at night was more than OK. The food as said above was outstanding and not expensive. [Moins]
