Visiting High Wycombe – A Guide
High Wycombe is an old market town in an enviable setting of rolling countryside, with easy access to London by rail or car. Its High Street with Georgian features and a covered retail arcade make it a pleasant shopping destination, but it also has historic treasures to delight the cultural tourist.

High Wycombe: town layout
Lively markets three times a week, set between the 18th-century Guildhall and the 1604 Little Market House, have been the heartbeat of High Wycombe since medieval times. The Buckinghamshire town is well linked to London and the rest of the region, thanks to its proximity to the M4, M40 and M25 motorways and a well-serviced train station.

The concierge recommends…

  • The picturesque Pann Mill, which is the last of River Wye’s 37 watermills to remain. It’s switched on a few times a year at free family events.
  • Cheering on the Wycombe Wanderers Football Club at Adams Park Stadium.
  • West Wycombe for a scenic rural walk, historic intrigue and spooks all in one. Look out for Hell-Fire Caves and Church of St. Lawrence.

Hotels in High Wycombe
Being near major motorways M40, M4 and M25 puts High Wycombe within easy reach of Heathrow Airport, London, Oxford and Birmingham, so business visitors can combine accessibility with the delights of a countryside base.

You’ll find the parks and pools of Rye Park, Eden Centre’s shops, Wycombe Swan’s entertainment and the main train station all within the town centre.

Eating Out in High Wycombe
The best way to mingle with locals is to head to the open air market and street-food court happening on High Street on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays – from hog roasts to curries and homemade cakes, there is something for every taste. For coffee shops and family-friendly restaurants, wander through the Eden Centre. If you’re seeking a traditional pub experience to soak in Ye Olde English atmosphere, head to small villages on the outskirts.

The chef recommends...

  • Bangers and mash: This plateful of pork sausages, mashed potatoes and rich gravy is a pub staple.
  • Bubble and Squeak: Shallow-fried seasonal vegetables and potato cakes are served as a side-dish all day.
  • Local ale: Beer aficionados have plenty to choose from with local breweries producing extensive monthly and seasonal specials.

Whether you like market stalls or malls, High Wycombe has you covered. The Eden Centre offers a weatherproof setting to browse stores with plenty of options for coffee and lunch. Weekly markets on High Street are great spots for bargain hunting and to bag fresh, local produce.

High Wycombe Department Stores

  • In The Eden Centre, you can find quintessentially British Marks & Spencer and the upmarket House of Fraser.
  • John Lewis in Cressex Business Park off the M40 is a British institution dating back to the mid-19th century.

Culture & Nightlife in High Wycombe
High Wycombe has a strong chair-making heritage dating back to the 17th century. You can learn all there is to know about it at Wycombe Museum, which also has local art and photography. As always, Holiday Inn was a pleasure to stay in. Comfortable facilities, helpful, friendly staff and great food all for excellent value. [Less]
Great staff

Nice pleasant stay for business. The facilities are good and the staff very attentive. The room was clean and in good condition, the leisure facilities were adequate for the sizeof hotel, it was [More] all you would expect from a Holiday Inn. Only minor negative was that the hotel had several large groups in on the night of my stay and despite going for breakfast early the choice was somewhat limited as they had been cleaned out by the groups, despite this I would highly recommend a stay here. OUT OF THE WAY
By GlasgowBiker
On arrival, I was surprised at how far the Holiday Inn, Shepperton was from the nearest habitation. Since the hotel didn't provide a shuttle service from Heathrow, I sent an email requesting [More] information about local taxi companies. It took 2 emails before I received a reply. Apart from these 2 minor irritations, our stay at the hotel was extremely comfortable. The staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful, especially the lady who worked both the bar and the breakfast room. Our room was clean, comfortable and well appointed. Had we been travelling by car, instead of air, our stay would have been almost perfect. [Less]
Good Location

Holiday Inn Mayfair has an excellent location, many attractions are accessible on foot from here. [Less]
Great location with noticeable road noise
By _World_Traveler_
The hotel staff was congenial, and the hotel was clean. Close by is a tube station that connects to three lines which makes for easy access in any direction. A wonderful park is a very short walk [More] away. Across the street from the hotel is a club. Between 1 am and 2 am each night the leaving patrons would loudly rev their Lamborghini and Ferrari engines. Guaranteed to wake you up each night. If you are in the market for a car; just down the street are Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and Bugatti dealerships. [Less]
Holiday Inn Mayfair

First of all, in a great location, just off Piccadilly, very close to Green Park Tube station - close to the West End theatres, shopping, tourist attractions. Staff were friendly, helpful and [More] attentive. The room was quiet and comfortable - the a/c worked very well. Breakfast had a good choice of buffet and was of a high standard. Concierge /Left Luggage service was appreciated. This was a Loyalty Points stay so I cannot make any comment on value - but London is an expensive city! I would have no hesitation in returning. Excellent staff and comfortable rooms. Room doors bang shut and these can wake guests up in the middle of the night as people arrive and depart their rooms - soft door closers required. Car parking [More] is excellent. [Less]
