A Great Concierge Can Make Such a Difference
By JoanFromIowa
We were here once before, in April 4 years ago, and it was very nice to be back. We were very pleased with a warm welcome and a significant upgrade (much more obvious than any we received at [More] InterContinental Moorea, where we had just spent 5 nights). We were disappointed that Le Lotus, their gourmet restaurant, was closed for the entire time of our visit, but Teiva Milz, the head concierge, guided us to several very fine area restaurants, arranged for taxis, and did so much more to make our stay very special. He learned our room number and names immediately and was very careful to ask us each day what we thought of where we had eaten the previous day. We were also able to chat with him about what he knew about other InterContinental properties around the world and found him to be very knowledgable and extremely valuable. We really trust his opinion and were so impressed with how hard he worked to learn our tastes. The weather in January was extremely hot, and you might want to brave bigger crowds in high season instead. However, we were surprised to feel that the Tahiti hotel seemed to be positioned somewhat better to benefit from breezes than the InterContinental Moorea; we had expected to like Moorea better for swimming and sunbathing, but just the opposite turned out to be the case. The Tahiti property seemed to us a bit more upscale. It is beautifully designed, very inviting with opportunities for sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, or hiding from the sun while catching whatever breezes are available. Wherever you stay on the property, when evening approaches, try to make your way to the main floor of the main lodge, just past where you check in, to watch what is often a spectacular sunset with a great view of Moorea beyond the lagoon. Without access to Le Lotus, dining was fairly good but not spectacular. For breakfast we did the buffet (Moorea’s is a bit better, and Moorea has very nice rolls that taste like French bread for the other meals, unlike Tahiti). Based on our experience 4 years ago, when we ate on the property for anything other than breakfast, we ordered off the menu rather than having the buffet; our experience the other time was that the buffets looked better than they tasted. And they do have some spectacular desserts featuring wonderful sorbets and ice creams if you order off the menu. The room we had was quite nicely furnished (the chairs could have been a bit more comfortable but were much nicer than the furniture we had in Moorea) and had excellent air conditioning, something we didn’t have in Moorea. (But we also didn’t have a soaking pool, something we loved in Moorea.) If we could change one thing about the room, it would be to provide a single sheet on the bed in addition to the comforter. The comforter makes you make an all-or-nothing commitment to a lot of covers or none, so that you also need to have the room either very cold or a fairly moderate temperature. It would be so nice to be able to just pull up a single layer of a sheet. As in Moorea, all the staff was very friendly and tried hard to please. [Less]
Excellent location, facilities and service

The Intercontinental Tahiti Resort offered excellent location, facilities and service. The over water bungalow we stayed in was particularly beautiful offering the ability to jump directly into the [More] sea from the private deck [Less]
The place to stay in Tahiti
By baldguyinut
Outstanding in every way. Our overwater bungalow was up-to-date, lavishly furnished, and loaded with nice touches and features. Pools and grounds are outstanding. Excursion services onsite were [More] excellent. Great staff. This hotel offers the type of experience you want when you visit French Polynesia. [Less]
Great start to honeymoon
By goodyafl
After a quick overnight stay in Papeete we continued our Honeymoon with 5 nights in Moorea before heading to Bora Bora. While Bora is undoubtedly spectacular Moorea is also a beautiful place and was [More] a great option to start our trip. The resort is about a 30min drive from the airport, we had a shuttle booked which made pick up and drop off care free. Check in was quick and we were whisked straight to our room. While our booking was for an overwater bungalow we were only semi over the water. This how the majority of their rooms are positioned so a little disappointing to begin with (and perhaps they should call them partial overwater bungalows) but our view was spectacular and the room was lovely. We were booked as Honeymooners so received welcome presents, a flower arrangements and free champagne. This is a decent sized resort and is positioned well. We spent most mornings at the beach (watch the sea slugs!) and the afternoons around the pool and at the swim up bar. The pool is a good size and is cool with great views of the ocean. We spent every afternoon at Happy Hour with the cocktails coming down to 1000 XPF. Definitely recommend the Cocoa Banana – it was the best cocktail I’ve ever had! We chose to do the beach buffet and Polynesian show. While it was a bit pricey the selection of food was amazing and the show was the best of the trip. We had breakfast included in our package which was a great decision. There is a huge variety of foods and items that change daily. This was my favourite buffet of the trip. Lunch options were great but expensive but after big breakfasts we tended to have snacks like guacamole and chips for lunch which were enough and cheaper. For dinner we chose to eat out most nights and picked restaurants that provided free shuttles. We ate at Les Tipanes, Sunset and Moorea Beach Café. Each was lovely, nice locations and a good selection of food. There is also a supermarket across the road from the resort where you can buy snacks, drinks, toiletries although the options were limited. Snorkelling around the resort is great and you can hire (for free) snorkelling equipment for the entire length of your stay. What the rocks as you enter, very slippery (I found out the hard way). Plenty of other water activities available. The resort seemed to get busier as we approached the weekend, quite a lot of children in the resort so this is maybe something to consider if you are anti children in the pool. Even though we travelled in January (wet season) and the forecast was for storms each day it only rained for a few hours one night so don’t be put off by the forecast. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again. Tips and Comments • Housekeeping provide water bottles each day if you choose not to drink the water • Happy Hour is 4.30-5.30pm and cocktails only come down to 1000 XPF. You also receive a little plate of snacks which were delicious!! The cocktail menu is extensive, but make sure you order Coco Banana! • Make sure you pack reef shoes. The sand is quite harsh on the feet pretty much everywhere you can stand • IHG members get free Wi-Fi. While the signal is a bit shaky at times it was enough to Facetime family at home and check emails etc. Disappointing that only two devices could be connected for a 24 hour period - you can't have two phones and an iPad connected - has to be only two for a day. • Polynesian show and buffet here was fantastic! The best of the trip and we saw 3 in total • Don’t open the mini bar unless you want to get charged. They have a tag on it so they know if it’s been opened. We would have liked to be able to put some water in the fridge but had to use the ice bucket instead. Before we even checked out housekeeping came into our room to check the mini bar – this is the first time I have ever experienced this and thought it was a little rude • January is a quiet time to travel to Tahiti – each of the resorts was really quiet and we had the pick of sun lounges, tables etc. for the whole trip [Less]
Intercontinental Hotel Moorea

Breathtakingly beautiful grounds, beach and pools. Many activities (Snuba, Jet skiing, ATV tours, scuba, dolphins, turtles) from which to choose. All were great experiences. Lovely place to stay. [More] Hotel staff really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was most enjoyable. Lunch items limited and of varying quality. Dinner (upscale) restaurant expensive and a little too overdone and pretentious for a resort. Several other local restaurants outside the resort provided better menu selection, great food quality and far better pricing, especially for dinner. [Less]
great location and great service

We had a wonderful time in the over the water bungalow. Especially had a great time swimming off the back deck, and could just sit on deck and look at the coral [Less]
