Let's get the criticisms out of the way first - the rooms need to have windows that open more to allow fresh air to circulate and the food in the hotel restaurant and cafe was - I felt - very
expensive when compared with what is available in bars, cafes and restaurants in the surrounding area.
However having said this, the rest of this review is good news.
The hotel is located in an ideal area to allow for exploring the city.
I was there for two days and would recommend the Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie and Tempelhof Airport Park one one day and then go and find places associated with David Bowie on the second day, especially the Neues Ufer cafe.
The staff were excellent - very helpful and fluent in English though I think it's only polite to at least attempt the native language.
Apart from the window issue, the room was comfortable, well appointed with a big comfy bed.
There are good transport links nearby - there's a station five minutes walk away and a bus stop two minutes walk round the corner.
Also a taxi from Tegel airport was 20 euros which for a first timer is brilliant and there's a taxi rank outside the hotel so getting a taxi back to the airport for an early flight was not a problem.
I intend to come back to Berlin for a second visit to explore the parks and gardens and would happily book at this hotel again, if only to use the pool this time! [Less]
