I read a lot of reviews before selecting a hotel to book, for our short 3 night stay. We wanted a few key things: close to a beach, walking distance to dining, free breakfast, and a pool with a hot
tub. This hotel had all of these amenities.
AREA: It was a short drive to Caladesi & Clearwater Beach - which are both highly recommended if you come to this area! There's a nice little downtown area "Main Street" that is only a couple of blocks from the hotel. It has a couple of different options for dining, a couple of icecream shops, a coffee shop, and several shops to check out. The hotel in a quiet neighborhood, and we always felt safe.
ROOMS: The beds were comfortable, the rooms were clean and the AC worked great! Our rooms were cleaned while we were away each day, and it was very refreshing to come back to! We always had enough towels in the bathroom. Great housekeeping staff!
STAFF: The staff at check-in and check-out were very nice. They were helpful when we asked for recommendations in the area.
POOL/HOT TUB: The pool & hot tub were clean and nice. The pool is heated, and there is a small water fall feature in it, which is pretty. The patio furniture is also nice and clean.
HOTEL: The hotel is clean and the landscaping is well kept. It is is a safe and quiet neighborhood.
ROOM KEYS: We had to take our room keys to the front desk 5 times (in 3 days) to have them fixed, because they did not work. That was a bit of an annoyance, but the staff did apologize and fix them immediately. Seems they were accustomed to doing this often.
POOL: The day we arrived, we could hardly wait to get into the pool & hot tub, but they were closed. We were told it was because of the rain, and that they would re-open as soon as the rain stopped. I went to the front desk 20 mins after it stopped to see when it was going to re-open, the gal looked outside and said "when it stops raining." (even though it was done raining) I respectfully said ok, and waited another hour. Then I called the front desk from our room. She told us the manager would go and open it in 10 minutes. We got ready & went down 20 minutes later...to find it still closed. I went to the front desk and asked again. The manager was there and then finally opened it for us, since we were standing there in our suits.
BREAKFAST: One of the key things I was looking forward to was the pancakes at breakfast - as I had read in the reviews and had seen at check-in. I was very disappointed to see a "temporarily out of order" sign hanging on the pancake machine EVERY DAY of our stay. :( There were other items available, but there were often so many people in the breakfast area that many items ran out quickly. Many other Holiday Inn's carry Belgium waffle makers - I would have like to see that, esp since the pancake maker was down.
Overall, this is a good hotel and we would recommend staying here. For the price & the amenities included, we would stay here again. Hope they address those few details, it could go a long way. [Less]
