Ideal Accommodation in the Heart of Melbourne

I stayed for three nights and received excellent service from the reception, concierge and dining room staff. My guest room was large, clean and extremely well appointed. Great ambience. Breakfast [More] was ample and of high quality, while lunches provided during the conference were healthy and varied, both with hot food and salads. The only disappointment was that air conditioning in my room failed on the third night, and the conference meeting room was warm and stuffy throughout our meeting. [Less]
Great hotel but repeated serious issues with billing

I experienced two issues with billing, one serious and one giving all appearances of fraud: 1) I was charged breakfast for 2 days even though I had breakfast at the hotel only one day, necessitating [More] me to request to have the extra charge removed ... unpleasant but got resolved ... I gave the front desk employee the benefit of the doubt 2) more seriously, at checkout, I paid part of my bill with cash, and the check out employee entered an incorrect amount for the cash I paid, folded the receipt and placed it in an envelope, may be assuming I wouldn't bother to open it and see the discrepancy, resulting in a AUD $100 overcharge. I had to return to the checkout desk and have this corrected and a AUD $100 credit be placed on my credit card ... while my taxi was waiting with the meter running. It appeared, true or not, that the check out employee would have directly benefited from the overcharge had I not noticed it ... very annoying and unexpected from a 5-star hotel in Australia. Going to an InterContinental, I would expect accurate billing without extraneous charges necessitating complaining at the front desk, and definitely without bazaar-like errors in entering cash amounts. Not sure how IHG/InterContinental can make this up to me, a Spire Elite customer. [Less]

All of the staff are friendly and helpful. The beds were a little on the hard side for me and the pillows were also hard and lumpy. The bar could also do with more variation on their beers. I am a frequent stayer at IHG hotels around the world. I have spent many nights at the Crowne Plaza Melbourne. I must complement the team on their customer service on this specific occasion. Firstly, [More] I was met by Grace on check-in who was extremely professional and conducted the best check-in experience I’ve ever had. While others will read the profile and still ask questions, Grace read ahead of the information and confirmed my preferences, with statements instead of questions, making the experience much better for me. Likewise on check-out, I was served by Holly who was again very professional. However, on noticing that I had not used my free drink voucher during my stay Holly asked me if I would like a coffee to go. This consideration was over and above the usual service I receive at hotels globally. Finally, and as usual for the last number of years that I’ve known him, Stan provides that warm welcoming greeting by name and excellent customer service as the Concierge on arrival.
